Chapter 181: Ch181: Centipede’s fury

*WHOOSH~*

Just before the fireball struck Daniel, the ground beneath him erupted, forming a thick stone wall that intercepted the attack.

*BOOM!*

"It’s a trap!" she shouted as she leaped backward.

"Whirlwind!"

Helen spun in place, swinging both arms wide.

Water materialized out of thin air and merged with the raging wind, creating a swirling current that swept through the room and dispersed the icy mist within moments.

Meanwhile, the man strapped to the massive chopping board twisted his head a full one hundred and eighty degrees.

With a sharp bite, he snapped the rusty chains and freed himself.

As the dust settled, the three stood at the center of the room.

Above them, the grotesque centipede crawled across the ceiling, its long, slender body easily stretching from one side of the room to the other. Countless razor-sharp legs scraped against the stone as its jagged mandibles clicked.

The two Zeros flanked them from both sides.

*Whoosh*

*BOOM!*

Zane clapped his hands together in a prayer-like gesture.

The ground around them trembled as thick slabs of stone rose from the earth, sealing them beneath a dome-shaped rock barrier.

*Bzzz~*

Daniel summoned sparks of lightning, illuminating the darkness within.

"My barrier won’t hold much longer," Zane warned, his tone strained. "We have to get out of here and kill those monsters outside."

"I... I’m sorry, Zane," Helen said, her voice filled with guilt as she lowered her gaze.

Daniel shook his head. "Now’s not the time for that. The exit is to our left."

*BOOM!*

*BOOM!*

Outside, relentless fireballs bombarded the stone dome, causing long cracks to race across it. Each time the barrier fractured, Zane reinforced it with his powers.

"Didn’t you see the centipede’s tail?" Zane said through gritted teeth. "It’s blocking our only escape route, unless—"

*Crack!*

The instant Zane dismissed the stone dome, a razor-sharp whip of water lashed forward, sweeping across the room.

It extinguished the incoming fireballs midair and drenched both the fake Zeros and the centipede.

At that exact moment, Daniel unleashed the lightning he had been charging inside the barrier.

*BZzzT!*

A lance of lightning struck the centipede and burst into a cone of crackling electricity, surging through its long, wet body.

*Screeech!*

The creature convulsed, its countless legs locking up as paralysis seized it

"Now!" Zane shouted.

The three of them sprinted for the exit, but pillars of fire erupted from the ground near the doorway, cutting off their escape.

A massive boulder shot forward, smashing the doorway apart, while a torrent of water crashed over the flames and extinguished them.

By the time the centipede regained control of its body, they had already burst through the exit and raced out of the underground passage.

The creature lunged after them with astonishing speed, its countless legs scraping against the stone, but they managed to escape into the graveyard.

Zane slammed both palms onto the ground.

Massive boulders erupted from the earth, sealing the entrance. He then hardened the ground above the hideout, turning the entire surface into solid rock to prevent anything from bursting out.

"Helen, flood it, now!" Zane shouted.

With a firm nod, Helen placed her palm against the ground.

Water burst from beneath the earth and surged through the sealed tunnel, rising rapidly as it filled every passage, threatening to drown anything trapped inside.

Seeing the opportunity, Daniel unleashed a continuous stream of lightning into the flooded tunnels, electrocuting everything inside.

A brief silence settled over the graveyard.

"Did we get them?" Zane asked, keeping his guard up.

"I don’t kno—"

*BOOM!*

Without warning, the ground behind them exploded.

The centipede burst onto the surface alongside the two fake Zeros. Their facial skin had been peeled away, exposing bloodied flesh, with bulging eyes and bodies covered in burns, bruises, and deep cuts.

Even so, they landed on their feet as though nothing had happened.

*Whoosh! Whoosh!*

Immediately, a barrage of fireballs hurtled toward them.

Helen met the attack with a surge of water, vaporizing the flames in midair.

"You two take down that centipede," she said. "I can handle these two."

Zane gave a firm nod and called out, "Daniel, over here!"

The two of them launched a barrage of attacks, drawing the centipede away from the graveyard.

It worked.

As the creature pursued them, its long, slender body began to swell and expand until it became nearly four times its original size.

Trees toppled in its wake. Branches snapped apart, while others were sliced clean through by the blade-like claws lining its legs.

"Klaus... I shouldn’t have trusted you," the centipede growled, its voice deep and filled with resentment.

Zane didn’t respond. He continued attacking as spikes of rock erupted from the ground, forcing the creature to slow its advance.

*BZzap!*

*BOOM!*

Daniel unleashed his Third Form, sending a surge of lightning crashing into the creature and stunning it.

"Now!"

Zane seized the opening. A spear-like pillar of rock shot straight toward the centipede’s torso.

The creature snapped out of its stun just in time to twist its body aside, avoiding a direct hit. Even so, several of its legs were ripped clean from its body.

"SKREEEECH!"

A shrill, pain-filled screech echoed through the forest, and the centipede whipped its lower body toward Daniel in one swift motion.

"Oh no!"

Just in time, Zane raised a diagonal slab of rock beside Daniel, deflecting the incoming strike and throwing it off course.

"You okay?" Zane called out.

"Yes! I’m good! Thanks," Daniel replied, even though a fragment of rock had struck his shoulder.

The centipede found itself overwhelmed by the relentless barrage of attacks coming from different directions.

Every bolt of lightning scorched its body, leaving fresh burns.

Whenever it lunged at Daniel, Zane intercepted it with walls, spikes, and rock projectiles of varying shapes.

The moment it turned its attention to Zane, Daniel struck again with another surge of lightning, giving the creature no chance to regain control of the fight.

However, as Daniel charged his lightning, a sudden warmth spread across his back.

"Hm!"

*BOOM🔥*

The explosion hurled Daniel sideways. He slammed into a tree before crashing onto a patch of thorny vines and exposed roots.

"Agh!!"

Agonizing pain shot through his body, forcing his eyes shut.

A heartbeat later, his eyes snapped open. A warm glow spread across his back once more.
