Chapter 107: 107: Delicious Meat

Reigns didn’t remember what happened afterward.

The burning sensation from the fire wreaking havoc on his body had been too much for him to bear, and in the end, it forced him to pass out.

When he finally opened his eyes again, he found himself lying in the back seat of the APC. His vision was still a little blurry, but as it gradually cleared, the first thing that greeted him was the sight of the group grabbing some fleshy white chunks and happily biting into them.

"..."

He stared at them for a moment before gathering his thoughts and finally spoke.

"Seriously!"

"We almost died, and I got knocked out, only to wake up and find you all feasting."

"Don’t be salty, buddy! This thing tastes like heaven. We even saved a bite for you." Duster grinned as he nudged Reigns and held out a chunk of the meat.

Reigns looked at the piece in horror, completely mortified by the thought of eating the very monster they had blasted apart with grenades.

Hoping to find at least one sane person, he turned toward the girls for support, but to his disbelief, they were eating it too.

Seon noticed his gaze and smiled awkwardly.

"It’s really tasty."

Knock!

The side panel slid open, revealing Rock in the driver’s seat, steering the APC with one hand while casually holding the meat in another.

"This really tastes delicious, kid. Believe me, if we only had butter and garlic, we might have gone straight to heaven."

"You all are sick!"

GRUMBLE!

A loud rumbling noise suddenly came from Reigns’ stomach, instantly freezing the entire scene.

Everyone slowly turned to look at him.

"What! I just ate an hour ago, so why am I hungry?"

Duster smiled before patting Reigns on the shoulder.

"Cough! Reigns, actually, you were out for almost twelve hours..."

"..."

"What about my summons!" Reigns suddenly freaked out and immediately sat upright.

"Don’t worry. They are trailing behind us. Even we were surprised they didn’t disappear after you got knocked out."

"That’s quite unbelievable."

_____

Reigns took a few moments. No, he actually took much longer to process everything that had happened. He was certain his injuries hadn’t been serious enough to leave him unconscious for so long.

Later, he learned that Seon’s major healing spell carried a sleeping effect. Since there was no major danger nearby after the battle, nobody had bothered waking him up. Instead, they were actually jealous of him for getting such a comfortable night’s sleep.

During those twelve hours, the convoy had already crossed the salt lake. The remaining Carapace Demons had been taken out without much difficulty.

A few more lobster-like monsters had appeared along the way, but Hex had easily dealt with all of them.

After hearing everything, Reigns finally accepted the piece of meat. He took a careful bite of the tender white flesh and slowly chewed it.

He had to admit...

This thing tasted amazing.

’I didn’t know monsters could be delicious. It’s sweet and a bit savory, and there isn’t even any weird fishy smell.’

"I told you, didn’t I?"

"Hmm! It tastes amazing."

The legion had started moving early again, and now the sun was slowly sinking toward the horizon.

Eventually, the APC came to a halt near the rest of the convoy as everyone began preparing camp for the night.

Rock looked around before turning toward Reigns.

"Reigns, since you have taken your rest, it will be your job to stand watch tonight."

Reigns didn’t have any reason to refuse. After all, he really had enjoyed a comfortable nap while everyone else had stayed awake.

"Okay. Also, I have my summons, so there’s no need for anyone else to tag along."

Soon, darkness spread across the land as the moon slowly rose above the horizon, bathing the world in a pale silver glow.

The endless snowy plains stretched as far as the eyes could see, shining softly beneath the moonlight like an ocean of white crystal.

Towering mountains surrounded the area from every direction, their frozen peaks piercing into the dark sky while cold winds drifted through the valleys, carrying tiny flakes of snow with them.

As the night deepened, a strange fog quietly spread across the frozen land. It rolled between the hills and around the camp, slowly swallowing the distant scenery until visibility was reduced to only a few dozen meters.

At the same time, a gentle snowfall began. Tiny flakes drifted lazily through the air, giving the cold wilderness an oddly peaceful feeling.

Reigns sat beside the campfire, warming his hands. In one hand, he held a steaming cup of hot chocolate, and in the other, a stick with marshmallows slowly roasting over the flames.

"So refreshing!"

Taking another sip, he smiled faintly.

"Nyx was so thoughtful to pack this."

He took another bite of the perfectly grilled marshmallow before casually opening his status panel.

Glancing over the panel, his eyes first moved toward the attributes he had assigned. He had gained a few free stat points from training with Nyx.

During those sessions, Reigns had discovered that strength and stamina were relatively easy to improve through repeated exercise, while agility came next.

However, increasing mana and perception naturally was far more difficult. A person had to put in a tremendous amount of effort just to see even the slightest improvement.

His gaze then drifted toward his lifespan.

Once again, he fell into deep thought.

The question was whether he should upgrade his class skills or not.

For most people, upgrading those skills was necessary to reach the next tier. But for him, it felt wasteful because once he advanced, his Infinite Evolution talent would automatically upgrade those skills on its own. So spending his lifespan on them now would technically be wasting those valuable resources.

"Even if it’s wasteful, I still need their strength. The increase might seem subtle now, but it could become quite significant later on."

He pondered over the decision again and again while quietly staring into the fire.

In the end, after weighing the pros and cons one last time, Reigns finally made up his mind.

He decided to upgrade his skills.
