Chapter 23: Orion’s Dream {The Silhouette Covering The Skies}

’Brother’

’Brother’

’Brother!’

"Orion are you alright?" Daniel asked with a frown, shaking Orion awake beside him.

The two were on their way to Orion’s school that very morning, they attended the same high school but Daniel had graduated from college already, he was working in a tech company as an intern and the two took a bus to Orion’s school so they could address an urgent issue reported by the school management, precisely his homeroom teacher.

"You’re sleeping again, what’s wrong with you?" Daniel asked in a stern voice.

"I’m just feeling a little tired that’s all, my mind is clouded brother, I don’t know what’s going on with me honestly and I’m having these weird dreams." Orion said in a sluggish voice, his eyes were bleak and dull unlike that of Draxus.

Silence, that was all Daniel had to give after Orion repeated the exact same words after waking up from his constant blackouts that very same day.

’Something is wrong with him, very wrong, there’s no way this could be considered normal.’ he thought inwardly and couldn’t bear to talk to his little brother anymore.

He was rushed to the hospital two days before this incident after complaining about the dreams and marks, the hospital tried their very best to provide a remedy to Orion’s situation but none seemed to work. Shots, drugs, counsels.

He would fall asleep, then have numerous different flashes during his dream, after waking up all former memories of his would be gone and he would restart the cycle again.

The hospital got tired of his case and filed it as a mental disorder. Daniel, his brother, however believed Orion still retained himself and was not suffering from mental disorder so he decided to find clues about his little brother’s "dreams".

"Are we there yet?" Orion asked in a low voice to which Daniel replied

"No, not yet."

After over 20 minutes of driving the two reached his high school at the very edge of Alumera, Daniel headed straight to his homeroom teachers office as he still had other things to do after leaving the high school.

"Nice to meet you, my name is Elaine but you can call me Miss Elaine."

"Miss Elaine, my name is Daniel, Orion’s older brother." Daniel said with a smile.

"So what are you here for, please? It’s been a while since I’ve seen your little brother. I phoned home and they said his health is a little complicated but he would be back soon, is he alright now?"

"Yeah, he’s been out of shape recently and I mean it like a lot, he said he was having these strange dreams and when he woke up he mentioned that you were going to help him, I don’t know what’s going on right now but if Orion ever revealed anything to you maybe important or not I would like to know please as this concerns the life of my brother."

Miss Elaine glanced between the two with a slightly nervous look on her face then let out a sigh "I don’t really know much about it but he wrote this letter over which I kept, and also this piece of scribbles from his so called dreams. I personally don’t think those dreams have anything special to them, it’s most likely possible that he’s just suffering from a mental disorder."

She pulled open a shelf from her table and dug out two sheets of paper, she stretched out the two then handed it over to Daniel.

"I’ll be honest with you, his dreams seem more like he’s suffering from Paranoia, I’ll recommend he take a year break, go through rehabilitation and return when he is more stable." She said with her hands folded back on the table.

Daniel opened the first sheet of paper filled with incoherent scribbles, different shapes aligned to each other at an unrecognizable pattern, everything on it seemed so...

"What is this?"

"Don’t ask me, I don’t recognize it either but he drew it himself, said it came from his "dreams""

Daniel slowly placed it down and opened the second sheet of paper.

"I’m tired." That was the very first word on it, Daniel didn’t mind it and continued reading as it was the same Orion repeated countless numbers of times now.

"I was in my classroom one day, listening to classes and I swear I was paying attention but something clicked into my mind and I wanted to draw it out, I drew its shape and outline, finished everything then I fell asleep."

"In that dream I found myself standing still in a pale blue world, the skies sparkled constantly, everything around me seemed to tremble incessantly and what made it worse were the pillars that filled the whole place, each of them had a face and different markings, the last thing I saw was a huge shadow that covered the skies, its wings spread over everything and before I could see it’s full shape I was already awake, I don’t even know why this would happen or what I did wrong." Daniel closed the sheet of paper then glanced at Orion who still sat beside him, physically there but it was very obvious he wasn’t hearing a thing they said, his ears were twitching randomly and he looked lost.

"Orion, what do you see in your dreams?" He asked.

Orion slowly raised his head, closed his eyes then said "It’s the same thing I’ve always told you, a blank world filled with pillars, a shadow covering the skies."

"That’s all?"

"That should be all, at least that’s all I remember."

"Did you draw this? Where did you get it from?"

Orion slowly leant towards the drawings on the second paper and shook his head "No, I did not draw that, I just copied it from... The dream, I can’t remember where though."

Daniel placed a palm on his face then stood up to leave with the two papers still in his hands "Alright thanks for the help Miss Elaine, I really appreciate it."

"Orion, go play around a little, I need to check something." He then walked downstairs towards the high school’s entrance door.

’I honestly don’t understand what’s going on with him anymore, mental disorder?’ Daniel thought inwardly, turning towards the football pitch.

Just a short few meters away from the football pitch a shadow suddenly shifted across the skies, blotting out the lights from the stars.

Daniel raised his head to see a humanoid figure so huge it could be seen from afar with six eyes lined vertically glowing red.

"Cursed humans, you dared release what I kept sealed, you deserve your punishment!"

The school didn’t fall into panic, everyone didn’t cry out or run in fear, they all just froze in fright, all at once, none could move a muscle and the only thing they could do was watch and listen to his words.

’What is that?’

Then just like it suddenly appeared, it vanished once again, no traces or changes it almost felt like that incident didn’t even occur till the first person spoke up

"Did you see that?"

"You also saw it? I thought it was only me." Mummurs spread across the school in an instant, Daniel who initially wanted to pick something from the pitch turned back to return to the school when an object suddenly fell from the sky, it had no shape or form, just a mesh of black glob.

It spread apart into tiny pieces then infused into the body of those around it, including Daniel who fell unconscious instantly, the last thing he saw before his eyes closed shut was the piece of paper in his hand suddenly tearing apart and exploding on the black glob.
