Chapter 14: Fall Of Dyteria: The Apocalypse

The nature of every living creature, the reason for their existence, development and also the cause of their destruction.

Curiosity.

No one wants to stay bound in the same position for life, especially when there’s a threat or others above you.

Curiosity either kills the one who’s curious or the target of curiosity, animals and wildlife suffered for mankind’s curiosity, the planet suffered the repercussions but when they became curious about the universe it was their turn to suffer from their own curiosity.

"The exploration of orbital-213 went smoothly at first, the first week was filled with news and reports of different findings, everything remained peaceful till two of the astronauts found traces of what happened to be a seal with an ancient creature sealed in it."

"According to them a civilization must have existed on orbital-213 at a point in time but something went wrong and all traces of their existence were erased from the surface, I only managed to receive the information because of my position at the bureau back then."

"Different arguments occurred because of the seal, some proposed leaving it untouched but some decided to investigate or figure out whatever was sealed inside it. Some argued that even if the seal was broken, whatever was sealed in it couldn’t reach Dyteria, we were so naive now that I think about it." The general said with a light huff, his eyes had gone dim as he rubbed his palms.

"So you opened the seal? And released whatever was sealed in it." Draxus asked.

{Of course they released it, if they didn’t would anything have changed?}

"Yes they did, a congress was passed across and different votes were placed, most voted to unseal it while some voted to keep it sealed, they wanted to know what exactly could’ve caused such a disaster."

"Oh wow, so you unsealed it and now the planets in rags." Draxus said sarcastically.

"No, after about a week of research they managed to unseal it, I don’t know what exactly was in that seal but it was huge enough that it could be seen from Dyteria, a huge black shadow was cast over the skies blotting out the stars and creating an eclipse over the planet, our initial predictions that it couldn’t reach Dyteria were totally shattered."

"Figures, and that led to all these?" Draxus said with a light shake of his head, their situation was even more pitiful as it was caused by their very own greed and curiosity.

"No, after whatever was sealed in there was released it vanished just a few minutes after, leaving behind a maze in its former position, the astronauts went into the maze to search for clues of what could have happened, what it could’ve been or whatever was left behind." The general said then paused for a few breaths, feeling a little annoyed by the pause Draxus questioned.

"Then? What happened afterwards?"

"We lost contact, we lost all trace of them, everything went blank for a few days then they returned."

"Blank eyes, bleak minds, crazed faces, they lost all rationality but maintained their intelligence. The moment they landed back on Dyteria the first thing they did was attack others, spreading the corruption, within a single day it spread all round the middle east continent. It felt like that was the end of it all but little did we know that was just the beginning."

"A short week after strange creatures descended from nowhere, claiming the demon they sealed was released by us and we indirectly cause a disaster which could wipe out our entire star cluster, they eradicated the corruption leaving behind just minor traces of it then spread it round the planet and killed over ninety percent of the population in a reckless, wild rampage."

"Currently what is left are just minor shambles of what Dyteria once was, every few hours surges of the corruption would erupt at intervals bringing along with them massive disasters and tides, their goal? Place those still alive and alright in an endless trauma and keep torturing us till there’s nothing left."

"Ugh--, that’s a lot to take in."

"Mhmm, it must’ve been right? Did you really forget everything that happened?" The general asked with a grin.

Feeling suspicious Draxus slowly pulled backwards then replied "Didn’t you tell me all that because I forgot?"

{He didn’t, don’t tell me you couldn’t even notice such an obvious detail}

’How am I supposed to?’

The general pulled his arms backwards after which several muzzles lit up from the control panels, the tips lighting up within a single second then

Bang!

Multiple shots of electromagnetic bullets were fired from the barrels wrecking the control room beyond repair, Alex had ducked and escaped from the room long ago to request for aid from the inner zone therefore only Draxus was left to face the endless hail of bullets.

He ducked behind a row of shelves which couldn’t even last for a few seconds before they were destroyed.

{Well, you know what to do}

’Of course I do, fuck you system I don’t have an idea what to do!’

{You really don’t know?}

’I really don’t know.’

{----}

’System! I’m dying here!!’

{Run idiot!}

’What else am I doing then? So fucking useless, you should scrap yourself and forget your identity as a system for Christ sake!’

{Don’t you vent on me}

’Of course I will, what are you going to do about that?’ he thought then took a leap for the control rooms entrance, his extremely fast reflexes were the only reason he was still alive by dodging most of the bullets, the rest that barely hit him were deflected by his bare body, the result of his actions was the tattered rag now on his body, his clothes had multiple holes in them and would be shredded into pieces in to time at all.

He ducked for bullets then ran out, heaving heavy sighs of relief after escaping from the trap set by the general.

’Huff--, this won’t help, according to them I’m corrupted already and I don’t even know what exactly I am corrupted by, they don’t either. I need to leave this place or find someone more reasonable to explain this to me, this guy’s so hot headed he’s not willing to reason with me.’ he thought then ran out into the open only to be met with another wave of muzzles and lights focused on him.

"Bloody fuck!"

"Your hands in the air, knees on the ground, surrender or we’ll open fire and trust me. I don’t care about your mutant based rank but you can’t survive this." A voice screamed out from beyond the weapons targeted at him.

"Argghh, fuck." He said with gritted teeth then raised his hands into the air slowly.

{Do not surrender Draxus}

"We’re surrounded!"

{I would advice you break out first}

"They can’t be so unreasonable to not keep to their words right?"

"Right?" He said, his spine slowly lighting up all the way across to his arms when a voice suddenly screamed out.

"Fire!"

’Oh shit!’
