Chapter 390: Chapter 292: An Idea

At the first hunting spot, their luck was pretty good. Feng Mountain spotted a herd of reindeer.

Several hundred meters away, a herd of 40 reindeer was moving in an orderly line, slowly crossing the snowy Tundra.

"Only the bucks. Check your rifles." Feng Mountain, lying prone in the snow, whispered to the three men beside him after surveying the surroundings.

Nash and Yves knew the Tundra hunting tradition: hunt the bucks, not the does, leaving the females to breed. The reminder was mainly for Director Roland, as it was his first time hunting on the Tundra.

"Understood!" Director Roland hurriedly picked up his hunting rifle. He deftly pulled back the bolt and carefully inspected it, checking to see if it was frozen to prevent it from jamming when he fired.

"Follow me. We’ll get as close as we can before we shoot."

As Feng Mountain gave his instructions, he lay on the snow and began to slowly back away. His movements were gentle and cautious, afraid of making any noise that might startle the reindeer.

Seeing this, the other three followed closely behind, keeping their bodies low and crawling slowly.

Even the two White Wolves seemed to understand their intent. They obediently mimicked the four men, softening their steps and crawling slowly through the snow.

The four of them continued backing away until the reindeer herd was completely out of sight. Then, they cautiously crouched low and began to creep toward the herd from downwind.

As they cautiously inched forward, the distance between them and the herd slowly closed.

When they were about 300 meters away, Feng Mountain knew that if they moved any closer, the reindeer’s keen hearing would surely detect them.

So, Feng Mountain stopped and raised his hand in a halt signal. The men behind him saw the gesture and understood immediately. They gently lowered themselves to the ground again, each raising his hunting rifle. Peering through their sights, they began to search the herd for suitable targets.

"OK?" Feng Mountain whispered, his voice low.

"OK!" the three men whispered back, their fingers resting lightly on the triggers, waiting for the command to fire.

"Fire!" Feng Mountain commanded, decisively pulling the trigger.

BANG!

A loud crack shattered the silence of the snowy Tundra.

A jet of flame erupted from the muzzle, its searing heat melting some of the snow in front of him. In the next instant, the bullet precisely struck its target—a buck he had selected from the herd.

BANG! BANG! BANG!

Immediately after, the rifles of Nash, Yves, and Director Roland fired in quick succession.

The three gunshots echoed across the vast, open plains.

The moment the shots rang out, Lao Liu and the other White Wolf shot forward like two arrows released from a bow. They charged directly toward the reindeer herd with astonishing speed, kicking up flurries of snow and plunging into the herd in the blink of an eye.

The reindeer herd, which had been walking quietly in an orderly line, was thrown into chaos by the sudden gunshots.

They began to panic and scatter in all directions. The scene was pure pandemonium, with reindeer running everywhere, kicking up snow that filled the air.

The appearance of the White Wolves terrified them even more. Their only thought was to escape this dangerous place as quickly as possible. In their panic, they paid no attention to direction; some even collided with each other.

As for the four targeted bucks, two had already fallen into the snow. Blood slowly flowed from their wounds, seeping into the pristine white ground, the crimson stark and jarring.

The other two bucks hadn’t been hit in vital spots and were now stumbling away, trying to escape.

Their steps were faltering, and every stride seemed incredibly difficult. But driven by the instinct to survive, they desperately tried to get away, even though they were injured.

Lao Liu moved with lightning speed, rushing to the side of one of the struggling bucks. Without hesitation, he opened his powerful jaws and sank his sharp teeth deep into the reindeer’s neck.

At the same time, he used his powerful body to pull backward, trying to drag the reindeer to the ground with sheer force before delivering the final, fatal blow and robbing it of any ability to resist.

The other White Wolf wasn’t idle either. It targeted the other injured buck and bit down on its leg. The location of the bite was deliberate—chosen to restrict the reindeer’s movement and prevent it from easily escaping. Its job was to hold the reindeer down and wait for reinforcements.

The different ways the two White Wolves attacked their prey clearly revealed Lao Liu’s status within the White Wolf Pack.

According to the hunting rules of a wolf pack, only a high-ranking wolf will boldly attack a prey’s vital areas. After all, this decisive strike, which determines the success or failure of the entire hunt, requires sufficient courage, experience, and strength.

The other White Wolves, on the other hand, are typically responsible for providing support.

They usually bite less fatal areas, like the prey’s legs or abdomen, which still serve to hinder its movement. Through this coordination, they work together to complete the hunt.

Just then, Feng Mountain, Nash, Yves, and Director Roland rushed over, clutching their guns. They scanned their surroundings as they ran.

The entire reindeer herd had scattered. A few stragglers stood in the distance, calling out as if for their four fallen companions.

Yves saw the two injured bucks still struggling, so he quickly drew his pistol and put a bullet in each of them.

With two more gunshots, the two reindeer finally stopped struggling. Their suffering was over. They lay quietly in the snow as the ground around them was stained a deeper red by their blood.

And with that, this phase of the hunt came to a close.
