Chapter 374: Chapter 284: Blessing
In front of the hangar, Jeff had a secretive look on his face. He stood before the wooden door as if it concealed some monumental secret.
Then, the corners of his mouth turned up in a smug smile. He was deliberately building suspense, his eyes twinkling with anticipation, waiting to see Feng Shan’s shocked expression.
"Buddy, this is definitely a surprise like nothing you’ve ever seen before."
"Cut the crap. It’s just some bull bones, right? I’ve got five mammoth skeletons back at my camp."
But Feng Shan was completely unmoved, curling his lip with a look of utter indifference.
"The mammoths are skeletons, but what’s in here isn’t." Seeing that Feng Shan wasn’t playing along, Jeff hurriedly explained. As he spoke, he pushed open the hangar’s wooden doors with both hands.
A biting cold wind, carrying a flurry of swirling snowflakes, instantly surged inside.
Feng Shan’s previously indifferent expression changed the moment he looked inside the hangar. His pupils slowly dilated, and his face filled with disbelief, clearly stunned by the sight before him.
Inside the hangar stood an incredibly massive American Bison.
As the cold wind blew, its brown fur danced like countless tiny flags fluttering wildly in the breeze, a testament to its imposing majesty.
Its massive head was held high, and its pair of skyward-pointing horns were especially striking. The horns were sharp and hard, seeming to radiate an inviolable majesty that inspired awe in all who saw them.
And its length—good heavens, the entire American Bison was at least 3.5 meters long.
Its massive body seemed to take up too much space even for the hangar, and its shoulder height was over 2 meters. It was like a small hill, giving off an intensely oppressive feeling.
"Is that an American Bison?" Feng Shan’s eyes were wide with shock.
American Bison could be found in Alaska. As one of North America’s largest mammals, they were typically 2.1 to 3.5 meters long, with a shoulder height between 1.5 and 2.0 meters and a weight ranging from 350 to 1000 kilograms.
Just last year, in fact, the American Government had signed a law officially designating the American Bison as the national mammal of the United States.
However, the length and shoulder height of the American Bison specimen before him completely exceeded the officially recorded standard ranges.
"Shocking, isn’t it? I had the same reaction when I first saw it. Only the Spirit of All Things could nurture such a majestic beast."
Seeing the shock on Feng Shan’s face, Jeff broke into a satisfied smile and began to explain the American Bison’s origin.
"His name is Tatanka. He is the guardian spirit of our Wild Bull Tribe, a sacred symbol of hope, strength, and survival. From the moment he was born, Tatanka protected the Wild Bull Tribe."
"After Tatanka died, the tribe, with great reverence and sorrow, had him made into a specimen. He has been carefully preserved in the tribe ever since, treated as our most precious treasure."
’He’s already dead, though.’
’And they made him into a specimen? Did they even ask his permission?’
’Get any of the Indigenous People talking about their ancestors and they’ll go on for hours. But no matter how amazing the stories are, all those ancestors just turned to dust in the end.’
Feng Shan didn’t have the patience to listen to any more of it and gave a perfunctory reply.
"And then?"
And then?
That simple question completely stumped Jeff. It was as if his brain had crashed, and for a moment, he had no idea how to respond.
When Jeff came to his senses, he said blankly, "Didn’t the Chief tell you to give Tatanka a blessing? Why are you asking me ’and then’?"
"Ha, just kidding." Feng Shan casually slung an arm around Jeff’s shoulders. With a mischievous grin, he started pushing him toward the hangar exit.
Before Jeff could even figure out what was happening, he had been pushed outside the hangar.
Then, without waiting for Jeff to react, Feng Shan slammed the hangar door shut with a BANG.
The cold wooden door was only a few centimeters from the tip of his nose.
He could even feel the chill seeping from the wood. Jeff shivered instinctively, the sensation finally jolting him fully awake.
’Huh? How did I get out here?’
Jeff froze for a second, then immediately realized Feng Shan had tricked him.
He panicked and started pounding on the wooden door, yelling anxiously, "Buddy, let me in! What are you going to do to Tatanka?"
"Tatanka is the Wild Bull Tribe’s most precious treasure! You can’t hurt him! Let me in!"
Inside the hangar, listening to Jeff’s racket, Feng Shan grew annoyed and couldn’t help but shout back.
"If you don’t want the blessing from the Spirit of All Things, I’ll open the door right now. Otherwise, shut your mouth."
As soon as he said that, Jeff fell silent, quickly clamping a hand over his mouth.
He was terrified of making another sound and angering Feng Shan.
After all, the tribe’s fate was still in his hands.
The hangar, which had just been filled with shouts, now fell completely silent.
The only sounds were Feng Shan’s soft breathing and the occasional howl of the cold wind outside.
Feng Shan reached out and gently stroked the American Bison specimen before him.
His fingers slowly traced the brown fur. Although it wasn’t warm and soft to the touch like a living creature’s, he could feel how exquisitely detailed the taxidermy was.
He had to admit, the taxidermist had been a master. The texture of the fur, the expression on its face, and even the bison’s overall posture had all been rendered with lifelike precision.
If it were placed out on the Far North Tundra, you wouldn’t be able to tell it was a specimen at all from a distance.
Next, it was time to bestow the Fire Totem.
Feng Shan first composed himself, his face taking on a reverent expression.
He then pressed his palm against the bison specimen’s broad forehead, bowed his head slightly, and began to softly chant the Spell from his ancestral dreams.
