Chapter 43: Chapter 43 - Duel in darkness
Daniel was a tall and somewhat thin man. He carried himself in a relaxed manner, placing the dull side of his katana on his shoulder.
He walked over to the dancing location, at the center of the night club. Vincent saw every detail of his movement from the glasses he wore.
But the same can’t be said about Daniel as he was plunged into the total darkness, surrounded by nothing but pitch black.
He looked around.
"Come out." He yelled in a lazy tone.
He then unsheathed his katana and placed it back on his waist.
"Let’s have a fair fight and be done with everything. You saw that I can cut down bullets right? Do you want to try it again? I don’t mind but it is a waste of money." Daniel muttered.
Vincent ignored the raving of the strange man and focused on aiming him.
Since the katana man was staying in the center, he got a good aim and pulled the trigger multiple times.
Vincent emptied the entire chamber inside his gun. Multiple bullets traveled through the air at a lighting speed, reaching toward Daniel.
Every single bullet was aiming at some sort of target on Daniel.
Daniel stared at Vincent, his eyes were sharp and almost as if he was seeing through the area he was hiding. A smile crept up on his ordinary face and he unsheathed the sword.
Vincent observed the man as he was reloading the gun.
In an instant, Daniel’s body blurred as he moved with the speed impossible for humans.
He didn’t dodge. He simply cut down every bullet and pointed the tip of the sword to Vincent.
"Found you."
Vincent gulped.
Daniel dashed toward him with the katana in hand. With his murderous intent raging out from his eyes, he looked like the God of war.
Panic flashed inside Vincent’s spine. The newly gained superpower instinct in his body was warning him to be careful.
Vincent moved to the side and quickly aimed the gun once again.
Daniel reached toward him, swinging down the sword.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
Another three shots were cut down by him.
Daniel chuckled with excitement. "Useless attempt. Come on, face me like a man."
Vincent wasn’t agitated by his taunting. He wasn’t the type to let his emotions get in the way when something this serious was happening to his life.
Instead, he calmly observed the situation and went to the safe place. He didn’t let Daniel get closer to him.
As the instant the man got close to him, Vincent was certain that his body would be cut in half.
The other Vincent could do in this situation was stall the man until Jason or Werewolf arrived.
So, the two men danced hide and seek in the nightclub.
"Count your bullets." Daniel said as he cut down the series of bullets.
Vincent frowned and checked the extra on his body. He had three chambers left.
At the current rate, he would have no choice to face the man head on.
’Wait. Do I have to? I could just stay away from him. No.’ Vincent thought.
The moment Daniel knew that he was out of bullets, he would go back to Eric and drag the shitty bastard out of this place.
Then, the chance of this mission failing increased.
Vincent quickly reloaded the gun as a new found resolve installed in his head.
Eric was the scum of the earth. He won’t allow this to happen. He won’t allow him to escape no matter what.
But in order to see through his resolve, Vincent needed some sort of plan or counter to Daniel.
Projectiles were useless to the man.
And getting close was as good as inviting lady death to take him to meet the goddess.
’Think. Vincent. Think.’
His breath became unsteady. Unable to find the solution to the problem, Vincent was frustrated at himself.
The best choice would be to use the superpower he got from Werewolf and face Daniel head on. But after gaining the ability, Vincent realized the obvious flaw in power.
Since as soon as he transformated, the rational thinking of him lowered and he would be consumed by instinct of the beast.
Daniel was a smart man. Vincent got to see that smartness from his cold and calculated demeanor. He didn’t pursue Vincent blindly and let him waste the bullets.
An idea popped out in Vincent’s head and he immediately rejected it. But the more he thought about it, the more insane he felt.
’Was it because of the ability I have that I am able to come up with this kind of plan?’ Vincent asked himself.
He didn’t know.
But the chance of the plan working was higher than he thought.
It was simple. He won’t transform fully but partially.
Rather than letting the instinct consume his mind, he would just try to fight the instinct with his mind.
Vincent gathered himself and his body was full of energy.
He closed his eyes and opened it one more time. He stood up.
Daniel sensed something and brought the katana near him.
"Good choice. We don’t have to waste our time. Don’t worry, I won’t kill him." Daniel spoke.
Vincent walked toward the center of the nightclub and waited.
Daniel also came and the two men faced each other.
One was able to see what was going on and the other was just using his senses.
In the complete darkness, the silence was the loudest thing.
The cold air permeated deep inside their bones and their breath calmed.
"Can I know your name? I have a habit of remembering the name of my opponents no matter how small they were."
"Vincent." The young detective answered.
"Nice to meet you, Vincent. I am Daniel."
"I won’t say that our meeting is the best in the world."
"Neither do I." Daniel smirked.
"Tell me one thing, Daniel. Why did you protect that scumbag?"
Daniel was taken back by the answer and then he laughed. The laughter echoed in the room.
"Obviously, it is for money."
