Chapter 859: Chapter 29 The Killer Revealed_3
Yan Fei glanced at Ah Dai and said, "I understand, Prophet."
Pu Lin staggered out of the stone house, his figure looking even more aged, that end-of-days appearance bringing a sense of oppression into Ah Dai’s heart.
Yan Fei summoned two Pu Yan Tribe Warriors, carried Yan Ju out, and casually released the restrictions on Yan Li’s meridians. He said, "Yan Shi, you and Yan Li are not to leave here tonight. Tomorrow at noon, in the tribal square, I will deal with Yan Ju’s matter publicly." After speaking, he nodded to Ah Dai and Xuan Yue, then turned and walked out.
Yan Shi was stunned for a moment. After watching his father leave, he suddenly burst into tears, seemingly releasing all the sorrow in his heart. He had finally found the murderer of his wife, but it was his own highly respected elder brother. What pained him most was that no amount of torture inflicted on Yan Ju could bring his wife back to life.
Yan Li had not yet recovered from the shock and stood there, bewildered.
Ah Dai looked at Yan Shi, recalling his own past suffering and his painful childhood. Tears streamed down his face unnoticed as he grasped Yan Shi’s shoulders, standing silently next to him in the sorrowful atmosphere, making the air feel exceptionally oppressive.
Xuan Yue moved closer to Ah Dai, taking his large hand, her eyes filled with tenderness.
Ah Dai shuddered. When he saw the tenderness in Xuan Yue’s eyes, a warm current rose from the bottom of his heart. In his eyes, Xuan Yue seemed to have grown up a lot, no longer the little girl who pained him.
Two days later, Ah Dai, Moon Scar, and a party of eight left the Pu Yan Tribe and continued their adventure. Yes, a party of eight, for their team now included Yan Shi and Yan Li. The day after Yan Ju was captured, Clan Leader Yan Fei explained Yan Ju’s sins in front of all the tribe members. Harms done to their fellow tribespeople were considered the gravest sins in the Pu Yan Tribe. In the end, Yan Ju died under Yan Shi’s Long Knife. Although Yan Shi had his revenge, he could not find any joy in it. When Ah Dai and the others were ready to leave, Yan Shi asked Yan Fei for permission to join Ah Dai’s adventure. Initially, Yan Fei disagreed, but Pu Lin told him that being with Ah Dai would only benefit Yan Shi, and given Yan Shi’s current poor state of mind, going out to clear his mind would do him good. With Pu Lin’s words, Yan Fei no longer objected. Yan Li, deeply regretful about Yan Ju’s affair and long wishing to leave the tribe to venture out, also asked Yan Fei’s permission under the guise of protecting Yan Shi. Yan Fei, exhausted by the affair with Yan Ju, gave his consent without much thought, merely instructing them to follow Ah Dai and Xuan Yue’s commands on the road and not to be too impulsive.
Thus, Yan Shi and Yan Li set off on the road with Ah Dai and the others. Yan Shi and Yan Li were still riding horses, while Ah Dai, not wanting to endure the discomfort again, chose to sit back in his own carriage with Xuan Yue and the others.
Today, the weather was clear, the sky a cloudless expanse, and the sun at its zenith made the air significantly hotter.
Ah Dai poked his head out of the carriage and called out to Yan Shi and Yan Li, "Big brothers, it’s too hot. Let’s rest for a while before we go on."
Yan Shi, who had not spoken a word since leaving the tribe, nodded slightly upon hearing Ah Dai’s call and, along with Yan Li, pulled the reins and jumped down from the horse.
Ah Dai, Xuan Yue, and Moon Scar got down from the carriage, and everyone walked to the nearby forest beside the road, finding a cool spot to sit. Yan Shi sat alone, his expression very forlorn.
Yan Li pulled out two Battle Axes from behind and placed them beside him, turning to Ah Dai to say, "Brother, do you have any water? I’m almost dying of thirst, and this damned weather is just too hot."
Moon Scar smiled faintly, tossed the water bag to Yan Li, and said, "Drink up, this is spring water I drew from your tribe."
Yan Li took the water bag, looked at Moon Scar with an embarrassed expression, and stammered, "Brother, you’re Moon Scar, right? I’m really sorry about the other day. I was too impulsive. Please don’t take it to heart!"
Moon Scar, still somewhat frightened by the memory of Yan Li attacking him with the Battle Axe, if not for Ah Dai’s timely intervention, the outcome would have been unthinkable. He smiled and said, "That was all a misunderstanding. I’m not one to hold a grudge. But, Big Brother Yan Li, your skills are profound! I nearly became a ghost under your axe."
Yan Li laughed heartily and said, "As for skills, among our Pu Yan Tribe’s younger generation, besides Elder Brother Yan Shi and Yan Ju," at the mention of Yan Ju, Yan Li startled, hurriedly shutting his mouth and turning to glance at Yan Shi. Yan Shi still sat there, wiping his Long Knife, seemingly not having heard his words.
Yan Li made a face at Moon Scar, prompting Yue Ji to burst out laughing, then ran off to have a drink by herself.
Ah Dai took his water bag to Yan Shi and said, "Elder Brother Yan Shi, you should drink some water too."
Yan Shi looked at Ah Dai, took the water bag, drank a few sips, and said, "Thank you, Brother Ah Dai." This was his first sentence of the day.
Ah Dai sat next to Yan Shi and said, "Elder Brother Yan Shi, it’s all in the past now. Don’t think about it anymore. In the future, perhaps you could find another good wife?"
Yan Shi looked at Ah Dai, shook his head, and said, "It’s impossible. There’s no girl better than Yun Er in this world. Brother, you don’t need to console me. Yun Er’s revenge is complete, and she can rest in peace now. The remainder of my life will be devoted entirely to my people. Now, I’d like to be alone for a while. You go and chat with your friends." After speaking, he sheathed his Long Knife, leaned against a stout tree trunk, and closed his eyes, saying no more.
