Chapter 803: Chapter 17: Death as Leverage_4
"Oh," Ah Dai nodded, thought for a moment, and said, "I, Ah Dai, swear that from today, I will serve as Miss Xuan Yue’s attendant for one year without leaving. If I break this oath, I shall never be able to eat delicious steamed buns again. Is that okay?"
Xuan Yue said, "That’s fine. Let it be so. Oh, go outside and see if you see anyone dressed as a knight wearing silver armor, and come back quickly to tell me."
Ah Dai asked, "Yue Yue, your father has come to look for you. Why won’t you go back with him? Doesn’t he treat you well?"
Xuan Yue shook her head and said softly, "It’s not that he doesn’t treat me well; it’s just that life in the church is really dull, and it’s more fun outside. Once my injury heals, shall we go be mercenaries for a few days?"
Ah Dai glanced at Xuan Yue and thought to himself how nice it would be to have a father who cared about him! Thinking of his father, he remembered the deceased Owen, and his eyes reddened, almost shedding tears.
"Ah Dai, what’s wrong?" Xuan Yue held Ah Dai’s hand in surprise.
Ah Dai found Xuan Yue’s soft hand comforting, and felt much better. He shook his head and said, "It’s nothing. I’ll go out and see if there is the silver-armored knight you mentioned." After saying this, he pulled away from Xuan Yue’s hand, placed his pack on the table, slung the Tian Gang Sword on his back, and walked out. The tenderness with which Xuan Yue had held his hand lingered in his heart for a long time.
After Ah Dai left the room, Xuan Yue murmured, "It seems this silly boy has quite a few secrets! Hehe, digging out other people’s secrets is what I like most."
Just as Ah Dai reached the inner hall, his body suddenly shivered. He circulated the True Qi within his body but didn’t notice anything unusual, so he didn’t pay much attention to it.
In the inner hall, seven or eight magicians, under Kigg’s command, were reapplying barrier magic to the walls, while some workers were repairing a large hole in the wall that had been chopped by Ah Dai.
Seeing Ah Dai walk out, Kigg came over and said in a low voice, "How is the Little Witch doing?"
Ah Dai shook his head and replied, "Mage Kigg, don’t worry, Yue Yue should be fine."
Kigg sighed with relief and said, "That’s good. If something had happened to her under my roof, I’d be in big trouble. Ah Dai, I can tell that you are a kind-hearted good boy. However, sometimes being too kind only leads to being bullied, you know? I think it’s best if you keep your distance from that Little Witch. You should know about the Red Robe Priest, right? The church is the largest power on the continent; if you offend that Little Witch in the future, I fear your days will be difficult."
Ah Dai nodded and said, "Thank you, Mage Kigg. But Yue Yue is injured now, and I have promised to be her attendant for a year, so I cannot break my word."
Kigg sighed and said, "Just take care of yourself. Please don’t let out what happened to Miss Xuan Yue while she is here. Although this is just a remote little city of the Red Hurricane Clan, the church’s influence is still enormous here, and I wouldn’t want the Red Robe Priest finding this place."
"I understand," replied Ah Dai, as he turned and walked towards the door. Before he reached the entrance, he heard someone outside shouting, "Is Mage Kigg in?" The voice grew louder, and as the last word was spoken, the door to the inner hall opened and a man walked in. This man was dressed in a white ritual robe and looked to be in his fifties, emanating a faint sacred aura with a solemn expression on his face.
Kigg’s expression changed slightly, and he hurriedly welcomed the visitor, with a smile he said, "I was wondering who it was—so it’s Priest Harry. Please come in, have a seat."
Priest Harry sighed and said, "I don’t have time to sit. Kigg, you don’t know, but a great incident has occurred. The Red Bishop himself has actually arrived in our little city."
Kigg pretended to be shocked and said, "What? The Bishop himself has come? What exactly happened?"
Harry shook his head and said, "I don’t know the details. As soon as the Bishop arrived, he ordered all clergy members to look for a person in the city, described as a pretty young girl dressed in white with two braids on her head. Kigg, have you seen this person?"
Kigg nonchalantly said, "I have."
Ah Dai, hearing Kigg’s words, was startled, wondering if Mage Kigg would reveal Yue Yue’s whereabouts.
Harry was overjoyed and said, "Old friend, quickly tell me. This could be a great favor!"
Kigg said, "Not long ago, a girl in white came here to undergo a magic test. She received the title of senior magician and then left."
Harry frowned and said, "Do you know where she went?"
Kigg shook his head blankly and said, "I’m not sure about that, but it seemed like she went west." The Mage Guild was very close to the West City Gate, and his mention of that direction was merely an attempt to redirect the Bishop’s focus outside the city.
Harry said, "Well then, I better hurry back and inform the Bishop right away. Thank you, old friend Kigg." After that, he turned and left.
Just as Harry had barely left the inner hall, all the magicians inside, including Ah Dai, were simultaneously shaken by a surging, immense energy that filled the entire Mage Guild in an instant. Ah Dai’s body stiffened, and he had never felt such oppressive force even when facing Owen. The powerful sacred aura was overwhelming, and the construction workers, oppressed by the sacred presence, struggled to breathe and fell to the ground, gasping for air.
