Chapter 449: Chapter 96: Saving Lives_1

Ah Dai glanced at her, knowing that his light magic was more effective than his internal energy in healing injuries. He nodded and stood up.

Regaining his senses, the mercenary knew he was no match for Ah Dai, but he refused to let it go and shouted, "Look at this man, he is defending a thief! Is there no justice left in this world?"

The crowd immediately burst into gossip, and all around him, noises accusing and insulting him filled the air.

Ah Dai felt an internal disgust, and the long-standing repression in his heart, due to his status, completely erupted at that moment. "Shut up!" he yelled, his voice causing the surrounding buildings to tremble, instantly stifling the rampant chatter.

He placed his right hand on the Sword of Hades at his chest, releasing a murderous intent that made the onlookers shiver with cold. Everybody froze in fear as this sensation spread. Xuan Yue, having just finished healing the young boy with light magic, sensed Ah Dai’s change and was taken aback. She quickly turned around and walked over to him, her divine energy shielding her from the evil power emanating from the sheathed Sword of Hades. "Brother, what’s wrong with you?" she asked.

Ah Dai ignored Xuan Yue and growled angrily, "You ignorant people, isn’t a thief a human too? He only stole a few things, and you want to kill him for it. How would it be if I decided to kill you all out of anger?" He turned to glare at the mercenary who had attacked earlier and coldly said, "You were quite heavy-handed just now!"

Fear overcame the mercenary standing close to Ah Dai, and he collapsed unable to speak because of the menacing aura of the Sword of Hades. In the face of this pressure, his old suppressed anger surfaced, not realizing that the Sword’s evil power was not only affecting the crowd but also subtly invading his body due to his generated negative emotions. However, this invasion was slight.

"Let’s go, big brother, let’s go home. What’s wrong with you?" Xuan Yue exclaimed anxiously as she saw the people around resisting the Sword’s evil power. But Ah Dai’s murderous aura was getting stronger. Not wanting to take any chances, she recited a spell and summoned The Light of Tranquility, the same spell that had once saved Yan Shi from going berserk. Xuan Yue’s entire body emitted a brilliant light, enveloping Ah Dai in a sacred golden aura to the astonishment of the onlookers.

Ah Dai was taken aback, and his internal restlessness and killing intent gradually subsided. The divine energy that found its way into his body calmed his mind. The hand he had placed on the Sword of Hades moved away, and the thick sinister aura in the air disappeared. Breathless and pale, Ah Dai glanced at Xuan Yue, and with a slight motion, he suggested to the young thief, "Let’s go."

Although the evil aura had disappeared, no one in the crowd, including the mercenary, dared to make a sound. They had been too close to death just a moment ago. The crowd split, forming a passable path. Ah Dai walked out expressionlessly, Xuan Yue let out a sigh of relief and hurried to follow him. The two left the crowd quickly, disappearing around a street corner. Only after they had completely disappeared did the crowd relax, feeling weak and not wanting to talk anymore, they dispersed.

Ah Dai, with the unconscious young thief in his arms, walked quickly ahead, followed closely by Xuan Yue. Even though Ah Dai had awoken under The Light of Tranquility, the pressure in his heart was unbearable. His misfortunes since childhood overtook his mind. The disparities between statuses hit his almost collapsing heart hard.

Upon returning to the inn, Ah Dai laid the young thief on the bed, looked at his dirty face and shook his head.

Xuan Yue was as distressed as Ah Dai. Not knowing Ah Dai had once been a thief, she didn’t understand why he had suddenly erupted. Standing next to him by the bed, she quietly said, "Brother, his wounds aren’t serious anymore. He just fell asleep from weakness. It seems like he hasn’t eaten in a long time."

Ah Dai looked at Xuan Yue, clearly seeing the concern in her eyes. "Thank you, brother. I wasn’t in a good mood and caused you trouble. I’ll try harder to control myself in the future. You used The Light of Tranquility just now, didn’t you? I remember when Yue Yue and I first met the Pu Yan, Yan Shi was in total rampage due to his wife’s death, attacking everyone around him. No one could stop him then, Yue Yue stepped in and used The Light of Tranquility to pull him out of his rampage—it saved his life. So she’s his savior. Sigh, brother, I really hate the people’s hypocrisy. Isn’t a thief a person too? Should they pay with their lives for stealing something? Who would choose to be a thief?" Staring at the young boy on the bed, Ah Dai sighed, "If he had the same background as you, born in the Holy Church, or if he was a noble’s child, then he definitely wouldn’t have ended up as a thief." Ah Dai bent down and riffled through the boy’s waistband. To Xuan Yue’s surprise, he held up a small, sharp knife. The knife was about four inches long, with a smooth curve on one side and a razor-sharp edge on the other. It had no hilt. It appeared ordinary, but Ah Dai knew well that this was the tool the boy used to steal and survive.
