Chapter 430: Chapter 92 Contradictory Psychology _1
Ah Dai landed next to the White Tiger, stroked its soft fur, and smiled, "Don’t be afraid, Sheng Xie is my friend and won’t hurt you. Why did you come back?"
The White Tiger gave a soft growl, its big brown eyes filled with gratitude, and Ah Dai said, "Your tooth should be all better now. Be careful in the future and don’t eat random things."
Xuan Yue walked over to Ah Dai, surprised at the sight of the amicable White Tiger and asked, "Brother Ah Dai, did he come looking for you?"
Ah Dai smiled and said, "Yes! I helped him remove a rotten tooth earlier, and he probably came to thank me. Look how sentient this White Tiger is! Much better than those from the Assassin’s Guild. People’s hearts are treacherous, and I prefer the company of animals over humans." Pain surged in his heart as he remembered how Ice had sacrificed her precious life to save him. The cat lady was not yet dead, and as he planned his vengeance for his uncle’s demise, he needed to find the one who had delivered the fatal blow to Ice.
Ah Dai pulled out a portrait of Ice, whispering, "Ice, do you feel the same as me? How wonderful it would be if you were still here! The Illusive Forest, though filled with beasts and poison, is a paradise compared to the Empire of Sunset City. If you could be here with me, we could live a peaceful life. I think that would be what you wanted most. Ice, look how beautiful the scenery is around us, just like you."
Seeing the beautiful woman in the portrait in Ah Dai’s hands, Xuan Yue shook, her usually fair face drained of color. She bit her lip and asked softly, "Brother Ah Dai, who is this Ice to you? How come I’ve never heard about her from my younger sister?"
Ah Dai revealed a desolate smile, "Ice is one of the most important people in my life. I met her after Yue Yue and I separated. What she’s done for me is far beyond my comprehension."
Xuan Rue faltered, feeling dizzy. He stated that Ice was the most important person to him, so where did it leave her? She anxiously asked, "So, in your heart, who is more important, she or my younger sister?"
Ah Dai glanced at Xuan Yue in confusion, shook his head, and sighed, "I don’t know. They can’t be compared. Ice has sacrificed so much for me. I’m sorry, Brother Xuan Re, I’d rather not talk about the past, would you mind not asking about it?"
Seeing the sorrow in Ah Dai’s eyes, Xuan Yue felt a stabbing pain in her heart. This girl called Ice posed an enormous threat to her. She could clearly feel how important Ice was to Ah Dai, even more so than herself. Why wouldn’t he talk about it? Could it be that he fell in love with this woman after she left? Xuan Yue lowered her head, her mind a whirlwind of emotions. She had decided that until she knew where she stood in Ah Dai’s heart, she would not reveal her true identity. She needed time to understand what exactly had happened to Ah Dai during the three years she was gone.
After a while, Ah Dai finally came out of his reverie of Ice, carefully put her portrait away, grasped two sacred texts in his hand and said to Xuan Yue, "Brother Xuan Re, didn’t you say that I should start practicing with the Divine Artifact? I think I should enhance my abilities first, or it’ll be dangerous if we run into assassins again. Follow me, I know a very secluded place where even the Assassin’s Guild wouldn’t find us."
Xuan Rue tried to calm her voice, gave Ah Dai a deep look, and nodded, "Then let’s go. What about Sheng Xie and this White Tiger?"
Ah Dai patted the White Tiger’s big head and said, "Friend, go back into the forest. I need to go. If you come across any humans, stay away from them. Humans are sly and ruthless which you won’t comprehend. Even though you are quite powerful among the animals, even the most ordinary human can pose a threat to your life."
The White Tiger looked deeply at Ah Dai while wary of Sheng Xie, before reluctantly leaving. Watching it constantly looking back, Ah Dai’s heart was warmed as he said gently, "Go."
Only after the White Tiger’s figure was completely gone did Ah Dai turn around, walk with Xuan Yue toward Sheng Xie and said, "Xiao Xie, you’ve just woken up, let’s not return to Dragon’s Blood just yet. Stay out and have some fun for a few days. But remember, you can’t attack other animals randomly or I’ll have to bring you back."
Excitement gleamed in Sheng Xie’s eyes, it nodded hurriedly, patted its belly with its front paw, and sent a message to Ah Dai: Brother, I’m hungry.
Ah Dai smiled and said, "You, all you do is sleep and eat. Alright, come on, let’s find some fruits for you. They taste good, you’ll love it." Turning to Xuan Yue, he suggested, "Let’s go. The safest place is deep in the Illusive Forest."
And so, at a leisurely pace, two people and a dragon made their way deeper into the Illusive Forest.
Clutching two sacred books, Ah Dai couldn’t take his eyes off the cover, imagining that the books had been in Xuan Yue’s hands. He thought to himself: Yue Yue, you are so good to me, how should I reciprocate! If only I were a nobleman, I would have the right to pursue you. But I can’t, I don’t match up to you.
