Chapter 1496: Chapter 163: Mad Grim Reaper_4

Ah Dai’s blood-red eyes had already returned to black. He said faintly, "I’ve already avenged the girl. Since she treated you as a sister, you should come with me as well. I will make arrangements for you." As soon as he finished speaking, without waiting for Xiao Huan to resist, he leaped up, grabbed the girl’s corpse wrapped in a blanket with one hand, and tucked Xiao Huan under his arm with the other. In Xiao Huan’s startled screams, his figure flashed out of the room, soaring into the skies with both of them in tow.

To prevent the soldiers of Mica Province from having a chance to attack, Ah Dai pushed the True Qi within him to its very limits. His entire body emitted a silver trail of light, shooting into the sky like a cannonball.

Although the ascending silver glow was noticed by the soldiers, the light was simply traveling too fast. Their steel arrows couldn’t hope to catch the fleeting, ethereal figure. In the blink of an eye, the silver silhouette had vanished from their sight, leaving them to fire a few futile arrows into the void, calling out in vain.

Yida crouched beside the lifeless body of Teirhaus, trembling slightly. The strength of this assassin was beyond anything he could have imagined. The Governor was dead. The great Governor of an entire province had fallen. Yida’s heart at this moment was filled with countless conflicting emotions. But he knew it wasn’t the time to panic. He shouted, "Men, assemble!"

"Yes, General!" The surrounding soldiers, infused with fear and despair, answered respectfully.

A cold, sharp light flickered in Yida’s eyes as he said in a deep voice, "From this moment onward, the Governor’s Mansion is under lockdown. Without my direct orders, no one is allowed to enter or leave. Additionally, keep the news of the Governor’s assassination absolutely sealed. If a single word leaks out, all of your heads will roll."

"By the General’s orders." Listening to his subordinates’ respectful replies, Yida took a deep breath, trying to suppress the raging turmoil in his heart. The Governor’s assassination—what a monumental event! This news must not spread amongst the civilians of Mica Province, or the repercussions could be catastrophic, leading to province-wide unrest. Now, all they could do was wait for orders from above. Sigh, judging by this assassin’s skills, perhaps only the Northern Sword Saint, the number one warrior of the Empire of Tian Jing, could hold an assured chance of defeating him. Against such an assassin, provoking him recklessly would be unwise. After all, humans are inherently selfish, and Yida was no exception—life is precious, after all.

Ah Dai, carrying the girl’s corpse and Xiao Huan, flew swiftly toward the outskirts of Mica City, stopping only when the towering walls of the city faded completely from view. He landed in an area of dense, verdant forests.

Xiao Huan had already fainted during their flight. To an ordinary person, the experience of soaring through the air would be overwhelmingly intense. Combined with the unbearable sorrow from the girl’s death and the freezing winds that lashed against her during the rapid flight, Xiao Huan succumbed to unconsciousness.

Ah Dai placed Xiao Huan and the girl gently on the ground, letting out a soft sigh. He hugged the girl’s upper body, blanket and all, into his arms and began to stroke her dry and brittle hair. Before long, he found himself completely lost in thought. As Xiao Huan’s earlier words echoed in his mind, tears streamed down his face. After a night of slaughter, much of his sorrow had dissipated, yet the girl’s death shattered his hopes for a reunion. "My girl, you’ve suffered so much. It’s all my fault—it’s my fault for not finding you sooner, and that led to your death. Girl, girl, open your eyes and look at me, your brother Ah Dai! Didn’t you always long to see me? I’m right here next to you. Wake up, please! I will surely take you as my wife. Girl, poor girl!" Ah Dai wept bitterly as he lay over her body. The misunderstanding between him and Xuan Yue, coupled with the girl’s death, made Ah Dai’s heart ache as though it might break apart. His whole body convulsed uncontrollably. Having endured a night of extreme mental tension on top of his relentless True Qi exertion earlier, not even his formidable physique could bear it anymore. He spat out a mouthful of blood from his heart and collapsed, clutching the girl’s corpse as he fell unconscious to the ground, his body trembling incessantly. If it had been a regular person, such sudden catastrophic events might have caused their mind to completely unravel. But Ah Dai’s spiritual power was incredibly strong, and at the most critical moment, he chose to faint, avoiding the brink of mental collapse.

Sunlight illuminated the Earth once more, the dazzling beams and the gradual warmth thawing Xiao Huan from her unconscious state. Her curled-up body trembled slightly as she slowly opened her eyes. After resting through the night, her spirit had recovered slightly, yet she still felt stiff all over from being soaked in the night dew. As her mind cleared, Xiao Huan recalled everything that had transpired the previous night. Instinctively, she scanned her surroundings and found that not far from her, Ah Dai was lying motionlessly, holding the girl’s corpse in his arms. Alarm surged within Xiao Huan, prompting her to rush to their side.

The girl’s corpse had already become icy cold and stiff. Her pale face appeared utterly haggard. As Xiao Huan gazed at the young lady who had been like a sister to her, now destined never to wake again, sorrow welled up inside her. She couldn’t help but break into tears, crystalline droplets falling endlessly, landing on both Ah Dai and the girl’s body.

Under the cold stimulation of Xiao Huan’s tears, Ah Dai slowly awakened from his stupor, his meridians throbbing with pain. He discovered that several points in his previously seamless meridian system were now blocked, and his True Qi no longer flowed as smoothly. Xiao Huan’s sobbing reached his ears, and Ah Dai tightened his hold on the girl’s lifeless body, sitting up slowly.

Xiao Huan looked at Ah Dai’s black-scaled armor with trepidation. She shrank back slightly, murmuring, "Sir, you... you’re awake."
