Chapter 1455: Chapter 154: Encounter with Mang Siu_5

In the sacred calendar year 998, early July, Ah Dai and Mie Feng arrived at the Empire of Sunset City’s capital, Sunset City, after rushing through their journey at breakneck speed. Since the day they encountered Mang Siu’s ritual, the two had spoken very little. Through relentless effort, Ah Dai had managed to seal off the complex emotions within his heart once again, focusing all his thoughts on seeking vengeance against the Assassin’s Guild.

Sunset City, the capital of the Empire of Sunset City, was named for its proximity to the place where the sun sets. Located at the far western edge of the Tianyuan Continent, it was also the largest city in the Empire of Sunset City. The fifty-meter-high city walls were constantly patrolled by upright, energetic soldiers. The spacious city gate was wide enough for twenty people to pass through side by side. This seaside city covered over thirty thousand square kilometers, twice the size of the Dark City. The drawbridge was lowered, and streams of pedestrians and carriages passed in and out, painting a bustling and prosperous scene. Everything seemed unchanged from the last time Ah Dai had been here. Arriving here, Ah Dai couldn’t help but think of the time he rescued Elf Princess Xing’er, and the Old Magician who helped him escape at the critical moment. The Old Magician’s prowess in magic was absolutely on par with Larthas.

Mie Feng was also very familiar with Sunset City. Although the headquarters of their Thieves Guild was not located here, massive numbers of nobles gathered in the city, making it a frequent "destination" for their guild. "Let’s enter the city first, find a place to stay, and then I’ll take you to scout the area around the Assassin’s Guild before we prepare to act."

Ah Dai nodded, his thoughts burning with fury as he silently declared, Assassin’s Guild, I’ve arrived. Master, I’ve arrived, bringing with me endless hatred. Back then, you tortured Uncle Owen; I will destroy you completely and avenge him. At the thought of finally confronting Owen’s true enemies, his blood surged with excitement. He clenched his fists tightly and stepped forward resolutely toward Sunset City.

As they approached the city gates, they were stopped by the guards. The head guard demanded, "Who are you? What is your purpose in coming to the capital?"

Ah Dai frowned, glancing at the unimpeded people passing by, and said angrily, "Why are you interrogating us? Why don’t you check anyone else?"

The head guard raised his brows and retorted, "Stop babbling! I find the two of you suspicious—quickly answer my questions, or I’ll have you arrested!" Truthfully, he hadn’t noticed anything unusual about Ah Dai or Mie Feng. He was simply drawn to Mie Feng’s appearance and deliberately caused trouble to stop them. Though Ah Dai did not understand this, Mie Feng grasped it instantly. A faint smile appeared on her typically icy face as she stepped in front of Ah Dai and said, "Soldier brother, we’re just country folk. Why must you make things difficult for us? Let us through, and we won’t forget your kindness."

The head guard, enraptured by Mie Feng’s alluring smile, chuckled lecherously and said, "Little lady, how could you not forget my kindness?" He reached out, attempting to touch Mie Feng’s delicate face.

Ah Dai, already brimming with killing intent since arriving at Sunset City, could no longer hold back upon seeing the guard’s attempt to disgrace Mie Feng. Like a bolt of lightning, he darted from Mie Feng’s side and struck the guard with his palm. Given Ah Dai’s speed, even if Mie Feng had wanted to stop him, it would have been impossible. With a sickening squelch, under the immense force of his True Qi, the head guard was instantly reduced to a bloody pulp. Cold light flashed in Ah Dai’s eyes as he turned to the stunned soldiers and said icily, "Anyone who provokes me will meet the same end." 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺

Mie Feng shook her head helplessly and pulled out a silver badge from her pocket, flashing it before the soldiers. "We are members of the Imperial City Plainclothes Patrol Team. With behavior like his, he’s completely unfit to be an Imperial City Guard. Executed on the spot. Clean up his corpse. If we catch you bullying ordinary citizens again, punishment will be severe and unforgiving." As a high-level thief, being prepared to handle any unexpected situation was essential.

The soldiers never expected anyone to have the audacity to impersonate government officers right at the gates of the Empire of Sunset City’s capital. However, seeing the authority radiating from Mie Feng and the overwhelming presence exuded by Ah Dai, they completely accepted Mie Feng’s claim of identity and immediately dropped to their knees. Onlookers, witnessing a soldier killed—a government guard, no less—were terrified and hastily scattered, not wanting to invite trouble. Some of the more sheltered citizens, upon seeing the pile of flesh on the ground, gagged and vomited uncontrollably.
