Chapter 1371: Chapter 136 Heading to Elves_4

The members of the Holy Church had thought of breaking out; Xuan Yuan and Ballon had personally led the elite in a night raid, but the enemy’s defenses were just too dense. Under the siege of the Dark Heavenly Kings, they had no chance at all, and after losing more than thirty lives, they barely retreated back to the Elf Forest. The Elves’ Barrier blocked the enemy attacks but also blocked any possibility of Xuan Ye calling for help. It had been over ten days, and the Elf Mages were already at their limit. Xuan Ye knew that in no more than three days, the enemy would break through the Barrier and invade. By then, he would have no choice but to fight to the death.

The Elf Queen said to Xuan Ye while gasping slightly, "Bishop, this can’t continue! Our Barrier is almost unable to hold. With so many enemies outside, we have no chance whatsoever."

Xuan Ye pondered for a moment and then solemnly said, "Your Majesty, I don’t know how to thank you enough for the help the Elf Clan has given to the Church. Without your unreserved support in holding back the enemy’s pursuit, Xuan Ye would probably be a corpse by now. I have decided; I cannot let the entire Elf Clan be implicated because of the Church. Those bastards only want us. After I meditate this time, I will immediately lead the remaining members of the Church to break out to the north. Whether we can escape, we shall leave it to fate."

The Elf Queen frowned and said, "Bishop, why do you have to speak such outsider’s words? You should know that a breakout is almost impossible. Moreover, even if you leave, those Tian Yuan Clan scum with tainted souls will not let us go. In that case, we might as well concentrate our power and use our familiarity with the Elf Forest and fight them to the death. We have one last spell that can make all plants within the Barrier grow wildly and attack any non-elf enemies around. Taking that opportunity, we could at least eliminate a third of the enemy’s power. Even if we are defeated in the end, we will greatly damage their strength. Our tens of thousands of Elf Clan brethren are all willing to sacrifice their lives for the peace of the continent."

Xuan Ye was shocked, looking at the Elf Queen with a determined expression, he sighed, "Your Majesty, why must you do this? Alas—it’s our fault for bringing disaster to the Elf Clan."

The Elf Queen smiled faintly and said, "Bishop, you don’t have to take this to heart. Even without you, those scum tainted by darkness would have come after our Elf Clan sooner or later, and whether we can survive is still a question. You better meditate quickly, as the enemy’s next assault could launch at any moment."

With a helpless sigh, Xuan Ye sat cross-legged, took a deep breath, and began to circulate the Divine Power within his body, gathering the Light elements in the air. At this moment, Chief Judge Xuan Yuan of the Holy Tribunal and Audi, the Elf Envoy of the Elf Clan, came back together.

Upon entering the treehouse, Audi, the Great Elf Envoy, unhesitatingly picked up the Elf Queen and exclaimed, "They have retreated, the enemy has retreated." The Elf Queen was startled, a blush rose on her face, and she whispered, "Put me down quickly. What is this behavior? What exactly happened? Weren’t you guarding the edge of the Barrier?"

It was only then that Audi realized there were others present, and he hurriedly put the Elf Queen down. However, the joy on his face was difficult to conceal, "Your Majesty, the enemy, the enemy has retreated. They really have!" Audi was not a Magician and together with Chief Judge Xuan Yuan, they guarded the edge of the Barrier. They had two tasks: one was to break out from the Barrier and launch a surprise attack on the enemy when their attacks became too intense. The other task was to hold back the enemy’s advance with all their might should the Barrier break. Just a while ago, after the enemy launched their last attack, they actually retreated. Audi and Xuan Yuan had watched the enemy fully retreat from the Elf Forest before confirming that they really had withdrawn.

The Elf Queen rejoiced and said, "That’s great, they have finally retreated. But, they had the complete advantage, why would they retreat?"

Due to Audi’s arrival, Xuan Ye was roused from the just-entered Meditation State, wrinkled his brow, and said, "Could this be a trap to lure the enemy? Perhaps the enemy has chosen to temporarily retreat because they could not break the Ancient Elf Barrier and are now lying in ambush on the perimeter, waiting to wipe us out in one fell swoop."

Audi shook his head and said, "I think it’s unlikely because when the enemy was retreating, they were heading toward the Winged Tribe Territory. Also, if they were to lure us into a trap, the retreat should have been made to look more hurried. But they retreated in an orderly fashion, leaving behind a strong rear guard as if to defend against our sudden attack. This seems to be a planned retreat, and it looks as though they planned it while they were besieging our Elf Forest."

The Elf Queen said, "Well then, Bishop, I know you’re anxious to return to the Church with the message, but for your safety, please rest here for another two days. I will send the most efficient members of our clan to reconnoiter and see if it’s an enemy trap. Meanwhile, you can recuperate. Everything must prioritize your safety."

Xuan Ye nodded and replied, "That’s all we can do. Chief Judge, do you have any opinions?" 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝚠𝕖𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝕖𝚕.𝚌𝗼𝗺

For Chief Judge Xuan Yuan, who had come to eradicate the Dark Demon Clan, this was quite the experience; he had taken the lives of at least a few thousand members of the Alien Race. However, he too was heavily injured due to overexertion, especially during the breakout a few days ago. In order to reduce the casualties of his men, he fought alone as the rear guard. Although he finally escaped back, he suffered serious injuries and has not yet recovered.
