Chapter 1228: Chapter 106: Heart Like a Knife Cut
Ice Skeleton faintly transmitted her voice, "Big brother, we are not meant to be. Haven’t you noticed that the Magician named Xuan Re is a girl? With her closeness to Ah Dai, I’m afraid they’ve already set a lifetime commitment. Let’s leave." After she spoke, she downed the remainder of her Tequila in one gulp, feeling the burning energy the liquor spread through her body, leaving behind a bitterness in her heart. She was not a shallow person by nature, never judging by appearances. During her time with Ah Dai, his character and profound cultivation had touched her cold heart, but she was rational, understanding everything from an analytical standpoint.
Blood Skull was shocked, exclaiming, "What? Xuan Re is a woman? Impossible, that can’t be!"
Ice Skeleton replied coldly, "Nothing is impossible. Even though her appearance was altered by medicines, and she dressed as a man, from the occasional female voice and the fragrance she emits, I can conclusively determine she’s a woman, and a beauty surpassing me at that. Coupled with her formidable magical power, do you think I stand a chance? Xuan Re is the one truly suited for Ah Dai. I have long decided to dedicate my life to mastering martial arts; romance for me is merely a luxury." After saying this, she didn’t even glance at Iron Skull, whose face was somber, and strode out of the tavern.
After Ah Dai and Xuan Yue left the tavern, Xuan Yue quickly pulled him towards the east. Seeing Xuan Yue’s somewhat gloomy expression, Ah Dai asked curiously, "Brother, what’s wrong? You seem really unhappy! Why are we rushing off? We might never see Brother Blood Skull and the others again."
Xuan Yue let go of Ah Dai’s hand, huffed, and said, "If I don’t leave now, you might get enchanted by Sister Ice Skeleton. Big brother Ah Dai, let me ask you, what place does my sister hold in your heart?"
Ah Dai stopped in his tracks, furrowed his brows, and said, "Brother, what’s gotten into you? Why are you asking this all of a sudden? Yue Yue is naturally a good friend of mine."
Xuan Yue stared intensely at Ah Dai, a cold light flashing in his eyes, he pressed, "Just a good friend?"
Ah Dai lowered his head, avoiding Xuan Yue’s gaze, feeling a strange emotion rising within him. Xuan Yue’s figure had never faded from his heart; among the girls he’d met, only Yue Yue and Xuan Yue left the deepest impressions. Emotionally, he preferred Xuan Yue, but rationally, he forced himself to focus on Yue Yue.
"Big brother, why don’t you answer me? Do you really see my sister just as a friend?" Xuan Yue continued to press. The sight of Ice Skeleton’s demeanor had already set off an alarm in her heart; she could no longer endure the wait, eager to know Ah Dai’s inner views about herself.
Ah Dai sighed, "Brother, don’t pressure me, okay? I—I’m also uncertain about my feelings for Yue Yue. But, you also know, I come from a thief background."
Not relenting, Xuan Yue said, "That’s just an excuse. Be clear, I’m asking whether you like my sister or not. I’ll tell you, sister has you in her heart. Otherwise, why would she have me come looking for you from so far away? The reason I took you out of the tavern is precisely because I don’t want you getting involved with Ice Skeleton. Tell me clearly, do you have feelings for my sister or not?" Xuan Yue finally couldn’t hold back any longer; though she confessed indirectly using another identity, for her, a lady of the Holy Church, it was already the utmost limit she could bear.
Hearing Xuan Yue’s words, Ah Dai’s whole body trembled, his face paling instantly, he muttered, "You, what did you say? Yue Yue, no, that can’t be possible. I’m just a thief!"
Xuan Yue grabbed Ah Dai’s face with both hands, looking into his eyes, "Big brother, don’t run away. Tell me, tell me your feelings for Yue Yue." Having spoken her confession, she resolved that if Ah Dai loved her, she would immediately reveal her true identity and then throw caution to the wind to be with him.
Ah Dai’s heart became chaotic, various complex emotions tangling inside him. The image of Xuan Yue kept flickering in his heart, but the cold rejection from Xuan Ye also echoed in his ears constantly. The continuous clash of reason and emotion left him indecisive.
Forcefully shaking his head, Ah Dai pulled away Xuan Yue’s hands, painfully said, "Don’t pressure me, brother, don’t pressure me. I can’t like Yue Yue! We’re not meant to be, I can’t be with Yue Yue."
Because of her emotional turmoil, Xuan Yue didn’t thoroughly understand Ah Dai’s words; hearing Ah Dai’s pained voice, her heart began to ache intensively. She had not expected her feelings to be met with Ah Dai’s rejection. Her delicate body slightly swayed, with tears appearing in her beautiful eyes, she mournfully said, "Why can’t it be? Is it because of Bing?"
Ah Dai’s body shook, lifting his head, a surprised expression on his face as he looked at Xuan Yue. He had long forgotten that he had once shown Bing’s portrait in front of Xuan Yue. Now hearing her mention Bing, the words Bing Ling spoke before her death echoed continuously, and her once tragically beautiful visage bewildered Ah Dai. His heart grew even more confused as he stared at Xuan Yue in front of him, muttering speechlessly.
Seeing Ah Dai’s expression, Xuan Yue thought her guess was right. It felt as though a massive rock was pressing on her chest, making it difficult to breathe, tears uncontrollably streaming down her face as she whispered, "So it really is because of her." All along, Xuan Yue had firmly believed Ah Dai liked her, but Ah Dai’s expression chilled her heart. He didn’t really love her; he loved that other girl named Bing.
