Chapter 114: Chapter 27 Pu Yan History_4
Hearing this, Ah Dai couldn’t help but recall the pirates he encountered when sailing with Goris. Goris had told him then, those with green skin were the Dark Witcher.
With a sorrowful expression, Pu Lin moved to the last piece of mural. This mural depicted a group of human mages surrounding the Dark Demon God, the man leading the humans being the Savior as referred to by Pu Lin. The Dark Demon God bled green blood and beneath his feet, an illusory six-pointed magic star was appearing and disappearing. Pu Lin said, "Eventually, after mankind had eliminated the Dark Demon Clan, under the leadership of the Savior, they cornered the Dark Demon God on a mountain. There, they gathered all of mankind’s most powerful mages, and with the help of the Savior, they were able to successfully slay the Dark Demon God and sealed his dead body and soul within the mountain range. That is what we now know as the Death Mountain Range."
Xuan Yue and Ah Dai gasped in surprise. They never imagined that the place where they were planning to go was actually where the Ancient Demon God was sealed.
Pu Lin’s body seemed very weak as he leaned heavily on his wooden staff to support himself. He said mournfully, "Amongst all the ravages, it was our Pu Yan Clan who suffered the most. But in the end, as the continent regained peace, we were forgotten by everyone. They didn’t return our lands, saying that our numbers were insufficient to rule over such large territories. With the Savior’s guidance, the continent was divided into five parts, namely the Empire of Tian Jing, Empire of Sunset City, Empire of Huasheng, the Federation, and the Holy Church. The surviving Pu Yan Clan were reduced to a mere race within the Federation. Our Pu Yan Clan which had once experienced thousands of years of glory, finally declined. If we hadn’t sacrificed our lives to hold back the advance of the Dark Demon Clan back then, the Savior wouldn’t have been able to unite all humanity to claim the final victory! Yet, our Pu Yan Clan did not receive the respect we deserved."
Xuan Yue frowned and asked, "Prophet Pu Lin, is this Savior you’ve been talking about the first Pope of our Holy Church, His Majesty God Feather?"
Pu Lin nodded, and said, "Exactly, the Savior I’m talking about is the first Pope, His Majesty God Feather. Our Pu Yan clan has never harbored any resentment toward the Holy Church, because without His Majesty God Feather, there would be no continent today. He had been kind to us. However, we despised all the other races. Our Pu Yan Clan sacrificed our lives to preserve the majority of them, yet when His Majesty God Feather proposed returning our territories, they equivocated and were unwilling to do so. His Majesty God Feather was disheartened by this and retired to the Divine Mountain of the Holy Church. But everything that His Majesty God Feather did will not be forgotten, the year he retired was called the first year of the Holy Era."
Ah Dai said, "The Pu Yan Clan really has had a rough time! Ninety-five percent of the population dead, that’s a huge number! Prophet Pu Lin, don’t be too upset."
Pu Lin shook his head in melancholy and said, "All these happened a thousand years ago, what’s the use of feeling upset now? When His Majesty God Feather retired, he mentioned that a thousand years later, the continent would face another major catastrophe. If we cannot overcome this catastrophe, the mainland will plunge into dire straits again. It will soon be a thousand years, and the disaster is about to come. The only ones who can save mankind are you."
Xuan Yue frowned and said, "I still can’t believe that we are the so-called Saviors. With our power, we can’t do much on this continent, let alone help you. I think you should talk to the Pope."
Pu Lin shook his head, "No, it is you who can help our Pu Yan tribe. Even the Pope cannot defy the will of God. Although your strength isn’t enough now, one day you’ll understand everything I’ve done today. I don’t actually want anything from you. I simply hope that when the catastrophe strikes, you can preserve our Pu Yan tribe’s lineage and allow our people to continue thriving in the continent, that alone will satisfy me."
Before Xuan Yue could speak, the impulsive Ah Dai who had been listening with boiling blood replied, "Prophet Pu Lin, I promise you, if there is indeed any catastrophe in the continent, I will definitely help your Pu Yan tribe overcome it." Xuan Yue tightened her grip on Ah Dai’s hand, but she couldn’t stop him from voicing his thoughts.
A slight smile of relief crossed Pu Lin’s face, and he said in a trembling voice, "Thank you, my child. The future of the Pu Yan tribe depends entirely on you. Xuan Yue, I understand your hesitation as a member of the Holy Church. But being an old man living his twilight years, would I deceive you? I just hope that my people can survive. With that, my wish will be fulfilled."
Xuan Yue glanced at Ah Dai, saying, "Prophet Pu Lin, if everything you said is true, I promise you that I will do my best to protect your Pu Yan tribe. Of course, within my capabilities. Given our current abilities, let alone protecting your Pu Yan tribe, even protecting ourselves is a problem." She finished, with a hint of craftiness in her eyes.
Pu Lin smiled faintly, "You, young lass, although you’re young, you’re indeed quite the cunning one. Whatever I say now won’t be as true as what you’ll see in the future. Remember your words today. It would be unreasonable for me to ask for your help without giving anything in return. Come with me." He took his wooden staff and gave it a slight wave, and a narrow crack appeared in the stone wall at the last mural. Pu Lin walked in first, Xuan Yue whispered to Ah Dai, "How could you be so foolish? How could you so rashly promise him on your first meeting? Regardless of whether what he says is true or not, you...never mind, there’s no point in talking about it. Let’s go." Finishing, she dragged a confused Ah Dai into the crevice in the stone wall.
This place could not be described as another cave, as it was far too small, only around a dozen square meters in size, so it could only be called a stone chamber. In the middle of the stone chamber with its uneven stone walls, there was a square-shaped stone platform about one meter high and half a meter wide. The prophet Pu Lin was standing in front of it, and seeing Ah Dai and Xuan Yue come in, he said, "It’s quite impolite of me to ask for your help on our first meeting, but in order to express our sincerity and strengthen your power, I have something for each of you. Xuan Yue, come over here."
Xuan Yue looked at Ah Dai and then let go of his hand and walked over. Prophet Pu Lin sighed and said, "Child, Pu Lin is my real name, but I also have another one that people know me by on the continent. It’s the name I used when I once roamed there, and that name is Yuan Mu."
Pu Lin’s words were said in a calm voice, but when Xuan Yue heard them, it was like a bomb had gone off in her ears. Her body swayed, she was shocked and blurted out, "What? You’re the magus, Yuan Mu." There are only three magicians who have reached the level of magus on the continent, excluding the Holy Church. The first is the State Preceptor of the Tian Jing Empire, president of the Mage Guild, and a specialist in fire magic, Larthas. The second is the chief court magician of the Sunset Empire, an expert in wind magic, Byinlog. The final one is the most mysterious magus, Yuan Mu, who specializes in space magic. Among the three magi, if it were to come to offensive capability, Larthas undoubtedly held the greatest mastery in fire magic. But if discussing overall strength, Yuan Mu, renown for his space magic, was unparalleled. His space magic once astonished everyone on the continent, even winning the praise of Xuan Yue’s father, Xuan Ye, the youngest Red Robe Priest in the Church.
Pu Lin gave a faint smile, saying, "How is it? Do I not look like him? But it is indeed the truth. The reason you can’t use magic here is due to a space magic array that I’ve used to restrict the entrance and exit of magical elements. Ever since the blood moon appeared, I disappeared from the mainland because I was waiting for your appearance. Don’t be too surprised, I am Yuan Mu. What I’m going to give you is my Magic Note. Although my space magic can’t be compared with the holy light magic of the Church, it still holds considerable strength with successive generations of research by our Pu Yan tribe’s prophets. I know you have many treasures, so this Magic Note will be of most use to you. I can see that you have an extraordinary magical talent, you just lack effort. My space magic will not conflict with your original light magic, but rather complement it. Therefore, you need to work hard, or otherwise, your achievements will fall far behind Ah Dai." As he spoke, Pu Lin made a horizontal cut in the void, a rift appeared in the air, he then reached in and pulled out a thick leather notebook which appeared before Xuan Yue.
