Chapter 1070: Chapter 72 Marchioness_5

Nobody had expected the just-rescued elf to seek death; they were all too late to stop it. A flash of blood erupted, and the elf slowly fell down, collapsing into Zhuo Yun’s arms.

"No—" Zhuo Yun cried out loudly, "Ling, why? Ling, why did you do this!"

Ah Dai, shocked, hurried to grasp the elf’s hand, continuously channeling True Qi into the elf’s body.

A bitter smile spread across the elf’s face as he said to Ah Dai, "Brother, thank you for rescuing me. It’s in vain now, I’ve already slit my own heart. I’m really grateful to you for giving me this opportunity to kill myself. Only in death can I cleanse my soul." His voice grew fainter as he turned to Zhuo Yun, speaking haltingly, "Yun, I... love... you. I... truly... love you so much... but... I can’t... be with... you anymore. Yun... I’m sorry... I’ve betrayed... you. Farewell, my... Yun... Take... good care... of yourself... and don’t... linger on... me. There will... certainly be... someone... much stronger... than me... to protect... you, to... love you... Yun, I truly... miss... our time... in the Elf City... Oh, how I... wish to go... with you again—" His voice abruptly stopped, and as two lines of tears streamed down, the elf took his last breath with a wistful smile on his face, in Zhuo Yun’s arms.

The night was as silent as death itself. Zhuo Yun, holding the elf’s corpse, was utterly stunned. Ah Dai was also frozen in shock; he could never have imagined that the elf he had struggled so hard to save would end his own life.

Yan Shi squatted next to Zhuo Yun and if he had felt a twinge of jealousy upon seeing Zhuo Yun holding the elf, now he was filled with pity for her. "Zhuo Yun," he called out softly. Zhuo Yun’s gaze blankly turned to Yan Shi.

Yan Shi sighed and pulled Zhuo Yun’s delicate body into his embrace, saying morosely, "If you want to cry, cry out. I never imagined he would be so determined."

Zhuo Yun wept loudly, devastated by the elf’s death; her tears soaked Yan Shi’s chest. She wailed, "Why? Why were you so foolish? You didn’t volunteer for this! No one would blame you, Ling, Ling, why were you so foolish!"

Yan Shi’s voice caught with emotion as he gently stroked Zhuo Yun’s light green hair, "He was a proud elf, and the great insult he suffered made him feel his soul was tarnished. So he chose death. Perhaps living would have been more painful for him than dying. Didn’t you see? He died with a smile. I believe he will ascend to heaven, so don’t be sad."

Zhuo Yun suddenly pushed Yan Shi away, shouting, "No, no, I don’t want him to die, how do you know that living would be more painful for him?" She grabbed the elf’s upper body, shaking him repeatedly, "Ling, you’re just scaring me, right? Back in the Elf City, you used to scare me like this. I know you’re just scaring me. Wake up! Ling..."

Yan Shi closed his eyes and let out a long sigh, "Zhuo Yun, if you were the one who had suffered the same fate, if evil people had defiled you, how would you face him when you saw him again?"

Zhuo Yun’s body shivered, and Yan Shi’s words deeply moved her heart. Indeed, if she had been the one violated, how would she face her lover, her tribe? She would have chosen death without hesitation. Yan Shi hugged Zhuo Yun again, speaking softly, "Cry, it will feel better if you let it out. He’s already dead, and his soul would never wish to see you in such pain. Let him go in peace."

Ah Dai clenched his fists tightly, anger blazing inside of him. The elf had committed suicide because of the Marchioness’s humiliation—why had these evil people tormented such a kind elf? He suddenly stood up. Startled, Yan Shi grabbed at his clothes, "Ah Dai, what are you doing?"

A cold voice seeped through Ah Dai’s teeth, "I’m going to avenge the elf brother."
