After they entered their pace, killing zombies, dealing with super zombies, maximizing the tanks, etc, the wheel battles began.
Every few hours, about a third of the forces would be allowed to rest. There were various container houses at the back of the formation. These places had bunk beds that the fighters could rest in for a few hours, in preparation for another fight. There were also free espresso shots and energy drinks provided here.
Of course, the medics were also stationed in this place. There were a few guns and guards there to deal with whatever zombie could find them.
In the front line, the tanks, bazookas, and other weapons were set-up to cover the openings, each one shooting at specific places to avoid wasting shots.
Kylo and Cauis also planned this fight so that—as much as possible—no team will run out of supplies. For this, all factories had hired temporary workers and hired any able-bodied men and women who stayed in the territories. This included those who lost body parts—after all, they could still help in some way.
For instance, those who had hands would have a fixed spot in the factory, while those with problems in their hands and arms would be given jobs that would need only their legs.
Everyone was mobilized here, and anyone lazy was threatened to get kicked out if they didn’t participate.
There would be helicopters dropping supplies every few hours to all teams. Each large parcel would have food, weapons, and medicine. There would also be a lot of crystals—as tempting as it was to open up zombies and get their crystals, it simply wasn’t doable during the war.
The helicopters’ paths back to the base would also go towards the mobs and take the long route back. This was to attract the front line of zombies and make them turn back, creating chaos within the mobs before they disappeared into the sky.
Anyway, the creation of resources wasn’t fast and they could afford to do so.
For the first day, they managed to hold on. Injuries and casualties were unavoidable but they were miraculously small in number.
After a day, the million or so zombies were reduced by about a third. But their energies were spread thin, and this inevitably caused their speed to slow and their strengths to diminish.
By the end of the second day, the groups saw more and more deaths, and the resources had also seen some slowness, which meant the ones at the factories were also spread thin.
However, this was to be expected. Things could not be so manageable the whole time—not with this massive amount of zombies.
What’s more: these monsters didn’t tire like humans.
By the start of the third day, helicopters that sent resources landed to report that two areas near them had fallen.
They were broken through by a few super zombies, lowering the momentum. Even if they could’ve defeated the zombies with the strong weapons, they ran away and abandoned their posts.
"Shit!" Hugo cursed, and Kaize sneered.
"No one else but us can be trusted!"
This moment did not last, of course. They had a mob to take down, so they could only adjust as the load on them became heavier.
And damn did it get heavier. They had so many of the merged crystals when this all started, and now it had ran out! They would have to wait until the next delivery to get them.
Hours passed and people got more and more tired, and their weapons showed wear and tear. Fortunately though, the mobs were reduced to a few hundred thousand.
Still a lot, but it was not hopeless.
The pregnant Khalifa was waving around her sword, very sweaty and a bit panting. The men would try to clear out the zombies before they could reach her, though they could only do so much.
They would also force her to rest every few hours, though she never did stay down for as long as they’d like.
The battle continued past another dusk and dawn, landing on the fourth day. More and more posts either fell or had to merge. It was harsher in Khalifa’s area, because of their positions, if a team fell, the zombies would head in their direction.
At some point, Cauis and Kaize found themselves in the middle of a mob. They were surrounded at all sides, and there were a few super zombies targeting them.
From any angle, the two looked like they would be swallowed by a tidal wave of zombies.
Khalifa’s eyes contracted when she saw them like this, her heart turning cold at the image of them suffering.
Something stirred in her, her emotions going haywire. It completely snapped when she saw a super zombie reaching a meter behind Cauis, ready to kill.
"NO!" she yelled, and ice started forming where she stood swiftly spreading towards the mob like a cold snap.
It happened so suddenly, affecting a cone-shaped area with Khalifa at the tip.
Most of the zombies in their direction were frozen to their heads. Cauis and Kaize were not excempt but Kaize’s instincts were triggered and he surrounded them both with fire, letting them avoid the freeze.
It seemed like that area suddenly entered an ice age. Most zombies were frozen, while the bigger ones were struggling with their heads.
"Goddess…" some people gaped and whispered, gasping at the shocking scene.

While several of the other teams gaped—though were forced to snap out quickly because their areas didn’t get the same ice age—the men immediately turned and dashed towards Khalifa.
Khalifa was just standing still as if frozen herself, and their hearts beat fast in nervousness.
Khalifa was extremely pale, and before they could get to her, she suddenly yelled as she felt an intense pain strike her.
"Ahhhh!" She gasped, her legs buckling and Kylo barely managed to catch her before she fell head-first to the ground.
His hand touched her skin, his heart freezing as he felt how cold she was.
"KHALIFA!!!"
