Chapter 311: Wan Mei’s Visit and Divine Oath

Upon arriving in the Moonlit River Sect again, Tang Yin was greeted with the same magnificent sights.

Qian Zhong was extremely magnanimous to Tang Yin. He announced to the entire sect that Tang Yin’s status was above everyone’s and just below his. He also allocated a large territory to Tang Yin. Of course, since Tang Yin was not a member of the Moonlit Sect, his ownership over the piece of territory was temporary.

Everyone was shocked. Since when was Qian Zhong so close to Tang Yin? But they did not dare to voice any of their thoughts, wary of the potential consequences.

Tang Yin chose a large green mountain as his place of residence. He ordered a Principle Comprehension Realm disciple of the Moonlit River Sect to build a palace for him on the mountain.

Since the palace was made out of simple materials and was not imbued with any Array Formations, the construction process was completed within 2 days.

Now, Tang Yin had a palace all to himself.

Surprisingly, Xu Yun and Qiu Yinzi came to Tang Yin and asked for permission to reside in his palace. Since his palace was large enough to house a thousand people, Tang Yin did not mind and agreed to their request. However, he wanted peace and forbade the 2 girls from disturbing him.

Elder Liang went back to his usual life of Elderly duties. And Qian Zhong dealt with a few matters in the sect before leaving. It was obvious he went to get access to the Hectic Chasm Holy Land for Tang Yin.

A few days after returning to the Moonlit River Sect, Tang Yin was visited by many Elders and important people from the sect.

After seeing Qian Zhong put so much importance on Tang Yin, these Elders and big shots of the Moonlit River Sect wanted to build ties and connections with him.

Tang Yin chose to meet with these people and talk with them. However, he was disappointed and annoyed after a while.

These people mostly bootlicked and flattered him. Clearly, they wanted to get on Tang Yin’s good side, and become ’friends’ with him. Tang Yin did not want friends, especially not these types of friends.

Just as he was about to announce his seclusion to put an end to these visits, he was paid a visit by an unexpected guest.

As Tang Yin sat in the main hall of his palace, a graceful figure entered the main hall. She had silver hair, a beautiful face and a voluptuous body. It was the Orchid Blossom Saintess!

"Brother Asura, it’s nice to meet you again." The Orchid Blossom Saintess said as she sat down opposite Tang Yin.

Tang Yin could feel her fresh fragrance waft into his nose. The sensation she gave off was remarkably similar to Xu Yun, only a bit more mature and experienced.

"The pleasure is all mine." Tang Yin stated with a smile. During the past few days, his constant interactions with the Elders and noble people of the Moonlit River Sect had increased his social skills. His manners were much more refined and smoother than before.

"There is no need for such formalities, please call me by my name, Wan Mei." The Orchid Blossom Saintess, Wan Mei, chuckled.

Wan Mei talked about small and trivial things before moving towards the main topic.

"How is Xu Yun? I hear that she has been staying with Brother Asura for the past few days." Wan Mei enquired.

"We haven’t had much interaction. I’ve been too busy with my recent visitors." Tang Yin somewhat understood the direction Wan Mei’s intentions were steering to. But he wasn’t too sure yet.

"Oh, that’s quite unfortunate." Wan Mei responded. She completely ignored the fact that Qiu Yinzi was also residing with Tang Yin.

"Has Brother Asura ever experienced love before? Well as you know I’m married to Senior Qian’s son, Xu Cheng. Love is quite a fascinating emotion." Wan Mei suddenly brought up.

Tang Yin instantly realised why Wan Mei was here. ’For fuck’s sake. Why does everyone want me to marry Xu Yun?’ But he already knew the answer to his question.

"Yes, I have experienced love. In fact, I even have a partner." Tang Yin responded. He wanted to make things clear. He had a partner, and he was not willing to marry anyone else.

"Really? I shall congratulate Brother Asura in advance then." Although Wan Mei said this, she was thinking of another way to marry off her daughter to Tang Yin.

For the next few minutes, the duo conversed intensely. Most of their words were spoken in riddles or had underlying meanings.

Wan Mei was enquiring about Tang Yin’s love life whilst trying to make her intentions of marrying Xu Yun to him clear.

On the other hand, Tang Yin did not reveal anything about his love life or Xiao Fei. Instead, he made his intentions of not taking in any more consorts clear to Wan Mei.

Although Qian Zhong had brought this matter up before, Wan Mei was not present during their conversation. She thought that she was the first one to mention Xu Yun’s marriage.

Wan Mei was not too imposing though. After witnessing her attempt to pair Xu Yun with Tang Yin fail, she spoke a bit more with Tang Yin before leaving. She now needed to concoct another plan to pair Xu Yun with Tang Yin through the ’information’ she had gathered during their conversation.

Tang Yin was irritated. He quickly announced his seclusion and politely announced his unwillingness to take in any visitors. After that, he went into seclusion.

Of course, he didn’t actually go into seclusion. He did not need to cultivate at the moment, not that he usually cultivated in the first place.

Instead, he was making a plan on various methods to obtain 8 more Lightning Essences. He already had a huge amount of Tribulation Lighting’s Lightning Essence. He needed 8 more Lightning Essences to create the Nine Heavens Divine Lightning.

The next type of Lightning that he wanted to acquire was Divine Retribution Lightning. The reason was simple, Divine Retribution Lightning was the easiest to obtain. However, it was a bit dangerous.

Mortal beings established agreements through contractual signings, while cultivators forged agreements through the solemn act of swearing a Divine Oath.

Once a cultivator bound themselves by a Divine Oath, they were obliged to fulfil it unconditionally. Failure to honour the Divine Oath would result in the cultivator’s annihilation through the mediation of Divine Retribution.

Consequently, cultivators exercised caution and consideration before undertaking a Divine Oath, as the consequences of non-compliance would bring forth the wrath of Divine Retribution.

Fortunately, a Divine Oath was not an eternal commitment. Upon the fulfilment of the agreement or oath, the Divine Oath would be deemed complete and cease to exist, unless a subsequent Divine Oath was sworn. As a result, the likelihood of Divine Retribution descending was minimal unless a new Divine Oath was sworn.

The act of swearing a Divine Oath was a ’public’ affair witnessed by the heavens and the world at large. A Divine Oath would always possess a witness, even without the presence of other cultivators and living beings. But if one undertook a Divine Oath in a location without the presence of the heavens or a world, the Divine Oath would not manifest.

The intensity of Divine Retribution was dependent upon the cultivator’s cultivation base.

For instance, if a cultivator like Tang Yin swore a Divine Oath and failed to fulfil it, the ensuing Divine Retribution would possess power equivalent to that of the Principle Manipulation Realm.

Similarly, if a cultivator in the Spirit Ascension Realm swore a Divine Oath and broke it, their Divine Retribution would manifest with the power of the Principle Comprehension Realm.

Dealing with Divine Retribution was immensely challenging, as its power exceeded that of an individual by an entire major realm.

Assistance from others was ineffectual, as the strength of Divine Retribution would only enhance in direct proportion to the aid received by the transgressor of the Divine Oath.

For example, if a cultivator in the Law Creation Realm attempted to support a Spirit Ascension Realm cultivator in withstanding Divine Retribution, the power of the Divine Retribution would automatically escalate to the pinnacle of the Law Creation Realm. The Spirit Ascension Realm cultivator would be incapable of enduring the pressure exerted by the Divine Retribution, let alone withstanding its full force.

Divine Retributions were impervious to exploitation and incapable of being weaponized. In the event that an individual sought assistance from an unrelated cultivator to endure the Divine Retribution, without the latter having any intention to aid the troubled cultivator, the power of the Divine Retribution would remain unaffected.

Furthermore, the Divine Retribution would solely focus on its intended target, disregarding the unrelated cultivator entirely. Of course, if the unrelated cultivator decided to interfere, the Divine Retribution would have its power increased by the heavens and the world, and the now involved cultivator would also be annihilated alongside the intended target.

This was Tang Yin’s plan. He wanted to swear a Divine Oath, break it and incur Divine Retribution.

Since the Divine Retribution’s power would be based on his cultivation base, its power would be somewhere in the Principle Manipulation Realm. With his powerful body and soul, Tang Yin had a high chance of surviving.

He would destroy the Divine Retribution and collect its Lightning Essence. Once he did this, he would only need to collect 7 more Lightning Essences to create the Nine Heavens Divine Lightning.
