Chapter 165: Wang Xiao

The sun shone brightly to illuminate the world. The sky was azure with not a speck tainted by pearly white clouds.

Within a valley, there was a village. The village was very plain, it was made out of simple wooden houses. Smoke continuously surged out of the chimneys of the wooden houses. It polluted the air with a grey hue and a fishy smell.

The village occupied the whole valley. However, it was not large. There were only a couple hundred villagers living inside the village. They consisted of the old, young, male, female etc.

The sound of children’s laughter and the harsh voices of their mothers continuously wandered around the village.

In one of the larger wooden houses in the village was a red-haired boy. He was only 8 years old, he had azure eyes and a delicate face. He was better than average in terms of his appearance.

Currently, he was immersed in reading a beast skin he was carrying. There was not much writing on the beast’s skin, it was mostly crude images of animals. The boy seemed to be really immersed in it as if it was the most fascinating thing he had ever seen.

Suddenly a bang came from his room’s door, along with a feminine voice. "Brother Wang, dinner is ready." The feminine voice was very immature, it sound as if a little girl had spoken.

The red-haired boy put down the beast’s skin and opened his door. Standing outside of his room was a little girl around the same age as him, her appearance was better looking than most of the girls in the village. She had an innocent smile on her face.

Without waiting for the red-haired boy to say anything, she quickly latched onto his arm and dragged him out of the room.

The wooden house was not too large to begin with. Therefore, it only took a few seconds to reach the living room.

The living room was the largest room in the wooden house. There was a large table in the centre of the living room, there were 4 chairs on all of its sides. Other than that, there was a small counter on one side of the room and a couch made of beast skin on the other side.

Within the village, the villagers could barely afford tables and chairs let alone couches and counters. This just went to show the high status and wealth belonging to this household in the village.

There were 2 grown adults sitting around the table. They were a middle-aged man and a middle-aged woman.

The middle-aged man had a very rough face with lots of facial hair, he also had a noticeable scar near his mouth. It gave him a fierce appearance. His build was very muscular and hench, enough to intimidate any man.

The middle-aged woman had some wrinkles around her face. However, they were not enough to hide her almost withered beauty. It was clear to tell that the middle-aged woman was a stunning beauty during her youth.

The woman smiled gently upon seeing the little girl and red-haired boy enter the living room.

"Wang Xiao, dinner is ready." She pointed to the 4 steaming bowls of rice on the table.

The red-haired boy, Wang Xiao nodded and moved to sit on one of the 4 chairs.

"Xiao Yun, you also come and eat." The woman spoke in a gentle voice.

The little girl known as Xiao Yun sat down beside Wang Xiao. The middle-aged man and woman then clasped their hands together and started to pray. 𝕗𝕣𝐞𝐞𝘄𝐞𝚋𝚗𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹.𝚌𝕠𝚖

The little girl known as Xiao Yun shyly held Wang Xiao’s hand with a blushing face and imitated her parents.

Wang Xiao had a neutral expression this whole time. He was not one of many words, but he was astute.

years ago, his father had died while going out to hunt. His mother became ill from the grief and passed away shortly after. He became an orphan.

The middle-aged man and woman had taken him in. Although it might seem as if they had done this out of kindness, it was not.

They had taken him in because of his appearance. They saw his potential of growing into a handsome man. Therefore, they wanted to groom him into becoming the husband of their daughter, Xiao Yun.

If he was not better looking than most of the boys in the village, they would not have even spared a glance at him.

Wang Xiao was still grateful though. It did not matter for what reason the Xiao household had taken him in, they had saved his life and provided him with food and shelter. Otherwise, he would have starved to death with no way to provide for himself, he was only a child.

After finishing the prayer. The family of 4 dug into their meal. No one spoke, it was silent.

Xiao Yun would occasionally sneak secret glances at Wang Xiao during the meal. She was infatuated with him and had a secret crush on him.

This naturally did not escape the gazes of the middle-aged man and woman. But they pretend as if they did not notice anything.
