Chapter 164: Sixth Trial: Dream Life Berry
All of the cultivators who had decided to give up and expressed their desire to leave looked at Tian Huang with shame but resolution. Even if it was humiliating, they had to do it for their own survival.
The 5th stage Qi Transformation Realm old man who had previously greeted Tang Yin looked at him with shame, he avoided eye contact.
Tang Yin understood what these cultivators felt. Even he was tempted to leave. In the end, he chose to stay. He believed that he had a good chance of obtaining the inheritance. He could increase his strength, wealth, knowledge and various other aspects if he obtained the inheritance.
Even if he failed, ’Oh well, it’s only death.’ He would face death while standing tall.
Tang Yin and Scattered Soul Daoist were the only 2 cultivators who decided not to leave and continue on the next trial.
Scattered Soul Daoist decided to stay simply because he had no choice. He was going to die soon of old age. He had searched far and wide for any heavenly treasures and items which could increase his lifespan.
Either they were false and scams or they were just mere rumours. Tian Huang’s inheritance was his last option. If he could not obtain it, he would die either way. So, it was better to put his life on the line for a chance of survival.
"Very well." Tian Huang responded with two words. He swung his arm to shroud the cultivators in a layer of golden light before transporting them out of the Tides of Chaos.
Only Tang Yin, Scattered Soul Daoist and Tian Huang remained on the platform.
Tian Huang lifted his head up and laughed boisterously.
Tang Yin and Scattered Soul Daoist looked at each other with confusion.
After Tian Huang finished laughing, he looked at the confused duo.
"Do you know what the fifth trial is about?" Tian Huang suddenly asked them.
"Please enlighten us Senior." Before Tang Yin could say anything, Scattered Soul Daoist spoke.
"It’s about courage. If you can not face danger to gain opportunities, then how can you call yourself a cultivator? A true cultivator is one who has gone through many trials and hardships to forge himself into a true warrior."
"Those who call themselves cultivators without facing much hardship and obstacles on their path are fake."
"A true cultivator must possess extraordinary willpower and unyielding bravery. Without either of these qualities, one cannot call themselves a cultivator."
Tian Huang preached about the qualities a true cultivator should possess.
Tang Yin and Scattered Soul Daoist were shrewd individuals, they instantly realised what he was talking about.
’The fifth trial has already been concluded. Those who left have failed and lost the right to fight for the inheritance. Then that means that I have passed the fifth trial alongside Scattered Soul Daoist. So, what is going to happen now?’ Tang Yin pondered, Scattered Soul Daoist was also having similar thoughts.
"In truth, there is a sixth trial. However, I kept it concealed because, over the course of tens of thousands of years, the sixth trial has only taken place twice. All the participants died." Tian Huang casually mentioned.
Tang Yin’s expression changed, and he quickly asked, "Senior, are there any more trials after the sixth trial?" If there were more trials, then Tian Huang’s expectations for a successor were too high. He would never find such a person.
"Don’t worry, the sixth trial is the last one. However, only one of you can survive. Whoever survives will obtain my inheritance." Tian Huang expelled Tang Yin’s doubt.
Scattered Soul Daoist and Tang Yin exchanged eye contact. Numerous thoughts rapidly flew through their heads. They did not bother to hide the Killing Intent they harboured for each other.
If anyone else saw a 1st stage Qi Transformation Realm cultivator provoke a Spirit Ascension Realm cultivator, they would think he was insane.
But Tian Huang only frowned. He flipped his hand and 2 pink berries appeared on his palm. This attracted the duo’s attention.
"This the sixth trial." Tian Huang did not explain what the sixth trial was. He only said 4 words while displaying the 2 pink berries.
An odd look surfaced on Tang Yin and Scattered Soul Daoist’s face.
’A pink berry? Is it poisonous or something? Will it test our poison tolerance or does it have some other function?’ Scattered Soul Daoist pondered deeply about the use and function of the pink berries. He used all the knowledge he had gathered during the past few trials and all of the medicinal herbs he had ever seen and read about in his life. The pink berries did not ring a bell though.
Tang Yin looked at the pink berries. It was unknown what was going through his head.
"If you wake up on this platform after eating the Dream Life Berry, then you will have passed the sixth trial and shall receive my inheritance." Tian Huang spoke his last sentence. He handed a single berry to Tang Yin and Scattered Soul Daoist each.
The duo sat down cross-legged on the platform. They spent a good minute scrutinizing the so-called Dream Life Berry.
With firm resolution and determination, Scattered Soul Daoist threw the Dream Life Berry into his mouth. A moment later, his eyes fell shut and he fell asleep.
Tang Yin sighed softly, everything depended on this last trial. Whether he would live or die depended on this trial. Without thinking anymore, he threw the Dream Life Berry into his mouth and a moment later, he fell into a deep slumber.
