Chapter 529: Chapter 516: A Massive Fiasco
In the Monkey Mountain area, venomous snakes and the corpses of Rat Beasts covered the landscape.
The war between the snake and rat races had come to an end. Now, it was time for the snakes to enjoy the fruits of their victory. The Rat Beast corpses were a grand feast, and one by one, the venomous snakes began to savagely devour them.
Only a single living Rat Beast remained on all of Monkey Mountain: the Supreme Monarch of the Rat Race, the Gray Demon King.
If the Gray Demon King were to be defeated, the Rat Race’s very survival in the Yaoling Mountain Range would be in jeopardy.
They would truly become rats scurrying across the street for everyone to beat.
High above Yaoyao, the Gray Demon King appeared half-man, half-rat. His Demon Qi roiled, and a single glance was enough to fill one with terror, making them tremble in fear.
Opposite the Gray Demon King was a young man glowing with a brilliant, five-colored light. He looked like a Celestial God descended to the mortal world, dazzling and imperious.
The Gray Demon King was in a foul mood. He hadn’t managed to bring reinforcements, and on his own, it was now impossible to kill this freak of a snake before him.
The main issue was the woman, Luo Ziyun, standing guard nearby, forcing the Gray Demon King to be on his guard.
Suddenly, the Gray Demon King roared, his aura surging majestically.
"Little Snake Demon, die!"
Before the words had even faded, a gale erupted in the sky. Sand and stones flew across the ground, the green pines on the cliffs swayed, and the withered grass undulated.
The Killing Intent congealing in the air was overwhelming. The Gray Demon King’s elongated claws suddenly swiped at the air, shockingly leaving behind five gouges over seven inches deep. These marks resembled Sword Qi, twisting space itself as they swept toward Tu Xiao’an.
It seemed like a casual swipe, but the terrifying power it generated was enough to instantly tear a Demon Spirit limb from limb.
Seeing the five tangible claw marks, Tu Xiao’an’s eyes flashed with disdain. He formed a fist and punched straight out, the five Elemental Abilities flickering enigmatically all over his body.
"BOOM..."
The Gray Demon King’s attack was instantly shattered by the single punch.
"Rat Dance!" The Gray Demon King paid no mind to his attack being broken. His powerful Demon Qi began to shift unpredictably. Immediately after, enormous Demon Rats formed from Demon Qi, resembling Ancient Fierce Beasts, burst through the churning black clouds with savage roars and charged forward.
The power of these Demon Rats formed from Demon Qi was no less than that of a true Rat Demon Crossing the Tribulation, and their numbers were like a tide, hundreds of them forming in an instant.
"Hmph." Tu Xiao’an glanced over, his eyes narrowing slightly. Nine Flying Knives, each as thin as a cicada’s wing, shot out, flashing by with a series of SWISHES, completely imperceptible to the naked eye.
When a Flying Knife struck a Demon Rat, the creature immediately disintegrated, turning into a plume of black smoke that rose and vanished.
The Flying Knives slaughtered them on the spot. Though the attack formed from the Gray Demon King’s Demon Qi was incredibly terrifying, it had no hope of achieving its desired effect against the Flying Knives controlled by Tu Xiao’an’s Consciousness Power.
One after another, the Demon Rats were pierced and disappeared.
But the Gray Demon King seemed extremely confident in this move. His Demon Qi continuously formed more Demon Rats that swarmed forward. Their numbers actually grew, and by the looks of it, he seemed to be trying to form a full-blown rat tide.
"Is there no end to this?"
How could someone as dominant as Tu Xiao’an possibly be harmed by such an attack? He roared furiously, "Celestial Fire Burning!"
In an instant, the countless Demon Rats seemed to have suddenly fallen into a mountain of knives and a sea of fire, where they were sliced by a thousand cuts. Searing waves of fire pressed in from all directions. This was a Flame that contained Celestial Power. The moment a Demon Rat came into contact with it, it instantly dissolved into black smoke.
In almost the same moment, thunder roared in unison and flames danced wildly. Countless crimson rays of light crisscrossed, wiping out every last one of the savage rat eyes.
"Xiao’an, look out!"
Tu Xiao’an had seen that the Gray Demon King’s offense was nothing special and was about to take the initiative to test out the terrifying power he’d gained from his Rank 3 evolution. But Luo Ziyun’s cry of warning immediately put him on high alert.
’Is the Gray Demon King about to unleash some ultimate move?’
He might be feeling arrogant, but Tu Xiao’an was still facing a Deep Mountain Demon King. He didn’t dare to be careless and focused his full attention.
But after a long moment, the assault before him vanished into thin air. When his vision cleared, Tu Xiao’an stood there dumbfounded. Where was the Gray Demon King?
The space ahead was empty; the ugly, half-man, half-rat figure of the Gray Demon King was nowhere to be seen. Instead, Luo Ziyun flew over, her white robes fluttering, and said with a frustrated look, "The Gray Demon King ran away."
"Ran away?"
When Tu Xiao’an realized that not a single trace of the Gray Demon King’s terrifying aura remained on Monkey Mountain, he was completely stunned.
’A Deep Mountain Great Demon fled before the fight even really started?’
’Have some goddamn shame! Why the hell would you run? It’s not like you were losing!’
Tu Xiao’an had truly underestimated the depths of the Gray Demon King’s shamelessness. It turned out the other party never had any intention of fighting a real battle with him.
The Gray Demon King probably understood perfectly well that even if he fought and won, there was nothing to be gained. If that was the case, why fight at all?
It would be much better to wait for a chance to launch a sneak attack in the future.
"Holy shit, that rat..." Tu Xiao’an was so angry he was at a loss for words.
He had manifested his five great Elements and prepared to fight with all his might, but it had all ended in a farce.
Luo Ziyun’s face was also cold as frost. "Xiao’an, it’s all my fault. I didn’t notice in time. I never expected the Gray Demon King to be this shameless, completely disregarding his dignity as a Demon King."
As the saying goes, a man needs his dignity like a tree needs its bark, and he was a Deep Mountain Demon King, no less.
And so, Tu Xiao’an and Luo Ziyun just stared at each other in the air, both utterly frustrated with no way to vent their anger.
They weren’t the only ones frustrated and annoyed. A thousand miles away, the White Demon King, who was observing the battle from the Azure Bamboo Forest Castle, also had a grim expression, his face dark.
"That Gray Demon King is too shameless. Since this king didn’t make a move, he was afraid of suffering even the slightest loss and ran away with no regard for his pride. He’s a disgrace to us five Great Demon Kings of the Yaoling Mountain Range!"
By doing this, the Gray Demon King had basically tossed the Snake Demon problem to him.
After all, he had already announced that he was inviting the Snake Demon over for a wedding toast in seven days. When the time came, it wouldn’t be a toast, but a world-shaking battle.
The White Demon King had originally planned to reap the fisherman’s benefits and let the Gray Demon King deal with that damned snake. But now, the ball had been kicked right back into his court.
......
In another domain, inside the Fox Palace, a group of stunningly beautiful women were snacking on melon seeds and watching the show, chattering amongst themselves. But suddenly, their beautiful faces all froze.
The Gray Demon King had fled. The great battle between the King of Snake and Mouse was thus declared over.
They were all so angry they nearly demanded a refund.
They had all their snacks out and had settled into their viewing positions, never expecting such a sudden turn of events.
"That Gray Demon King is so despicable, so shameless! How could he run? He’s a Demon King!" a young woman in a palace gown stomped her foot in anger.
"Big Sis, for you to be counted among the five Great Demon Kings alongside the Gray Demon King is an utter disgrace! The greatest disgrace of your life! He’s completely unworthy!"
"It’s not like he was guaranteed to lose; in fact, his chances of winning were high. So why did he run?"
In fact, many people still believed the Gray Demon King would win. After all, the Deep Mountain Demon Kings had ruled the Yaoling Mountain Range for countless years and had never known defeat.
No matter how powerful that Snake Demon was, he had only just proven his Dao. Even if he had the combat power of a Demon King, he wasn’t on the same level.
If he wasn’t going to lose, why run?
On her Cloud Bed, the Fox Demon King, draped in red, was quite calm. It seemed she wasn’t surprised at all.
For a Demon King who had lived for countless ages, there had to be a clear purpose for every action.
If you do something that completely fails to achieve its purpose, then what’s the point of doing it?
Face? Dignity?
No matter what, the Gray Demon King’s strength and status as a Demon King were still there. Running away didn’t cost him anything significant.
But if he had continued fighting, suffering a loss would have been unavoidable.
Running was the best choice.
