Chapter 426: Chapter 422: A Homicide Caused by Wild Boar Meat
Ten minutes later, the Rank Two Unicorn Boar had unsurprisingly become a giant roasted suckling pig. It gave off a rich, meaty aroma, its entire body shimmered with a radiant glow that stirred the appetite, and it was covered in lean meat brimming with Energy.
Eating the meat of a Rank Two Spirit Monster was an incredible luxury.
Tu Xiao’an’s eyes lit up. A Flying Knife, as thin as a cicada’s wing, appeared in his hand. He made a light cut on the roasted pig, carving off a piece to taste.
The flavor of that first bite was simply indescribable. A pleasant warmth spread through his entire body, filling him with strength.
’Delicious. So incredibly delicious. A true delicacy.’
"Master, do you have another Flying Knife? Could you give me one? It wouldn’t feel right to just grab at it with my bare hands." He was mostly worried about spoiling Tu Xiao’an’s pleasant meal.
Tu Xiao’an handed his Flying Knife to the Bull Demon King, and in the next instant, another one appeared in his own hand. The two of them immediately fell into a ravenous feast.
The massive Unicorn Boar shrank at a rate visible to the naked eye as its flesh was devoured, piece by piece.
Talk about bad luck. This Unicorn Boar had awakened into a Rank Two Spirit Monster, yet it still couldn’t escape the fate of being eaten.
What was the point of its Cultivation? It ended up with the same fate as any ordinary pig.
It seemed it could only blame itself for being in the wrong place at the wrong time.
As they ate, Tu Xiao’an sensed something amiss. He turned to find that, at some point, numerous Awakened Creatures had gathered around them. Pairs of greedy eyes stared at the roasted pig, clearly drawn by the aroma and hoping to get a share.
Tu Xiao’an was amused by the sight. ’Showing up on their own to contribute Evolutionary Energy? How thoughtful.’
His eyes narrowed. A dozen bolts of Thunder Shock instantly erupted, crashing down in a chaotic bombardment.
"Ding... Host has killed thirty-one Rank One Awakened Creatures, earning 3,600 Evolutionary Energy."
It was just a minor interruption. He went back to enjoying the delicious food.
"Master, this Unicorn Boar is delicious! It’s my first time eating one, and it’s incredible!"
The Bull Demon King looked like he wanted to press his entire face into the roast and start chewing. He was eating so fast it seemed he might swallow his own tongue.
"Following me isn’t so bad, is it? You even get to eat good meat."
’This is a Rank Two boar,’ the Bull Demon King thought. ’A single pound of this meat would probably cost tens of thousands.’
The Bull Demon King pursed his lips. ’It’s not like I can’t afford meat,’ he thought, but he didn’t dare say it out loud.
"Haha... So this is where that amazing smell is coming from! I finally found it!"
Just then, a cheerful voice echoed across the clearing.
Hmm?
Tu Xiao’an and the Bull Demon King turned to see fifteen human Martial Cultivators approaching. Every one of them carried a Weapon, and their auras were quite strong.
This was the first time Tu Xiao’an had seen other humans since coming to the Yaoling Mountain Range.
’Looks like they’re here to train.’
Tu Xiao’an glanced impassively at the group of fifteen. Their leader was a young man of Mixed Blood. His features were decent, but he gave off a rather effeminate vibe. Beside him stood an old man, whose presence was so complete that the very air around him seemed to ripple.
’A Rank Three Creature.’
Tu Xiao’an didn’t need to use his Conscious Insight; he could tell just by looking. It was a matter of experience.
Furthermore, this Rank Three elder seemed to be the young man’s subordinate, sticking close to him at all times.
Although the old man was a Rank Three Creature, the Mixed-Blood youth’s power had only just reached Rank Two. Without a bodyguard, someone of his strength would be committing suicide in the Yaoling Mountain Range. He wouldn’t survive a single Chapter.
The other thirteen appeared to be a single team. All of them were at Rank Two Fifth Stage or higher, and three of them had even reached the Peak of the second Rank.
"Friend, that’s quite impressive, eating a Rank Two Spirit Monster for a meal," one of the men at the Peak of the second Rank said to Tu Xiao’an. "It looks like a Unicorn Boar, so no wonder the scent carried for miles. We’re Hunters. My team is the Wolf Fang Team, and I’m the Wolf Fang Captain. We were hired by Young Master Qin for a hefty sum to protect him."
"Oh..." Tu Xiao’an replied casually. ’Why is he telling me all this? We don’t even know each other.’
Seeing Tu Xiao’an’s cold reaction, the Wolf Fang Captain smiled awkwardly. "Friend, that Unicorn Boar is huge. The two of you probably can’t finish it all. How about sharing some with us?"
’So after all that, they were just here to beg for meat.’ Before Tu Xiao’an could speak, the Bull Demon King retorted, "We can finish it."
’This is meat from a Rank Two boar! It’s incredibly precious. Do they think they can just ask for some like it’s nothing?’
The Wolf Fang Captain was a little displeased at being rejected so bluntly, but he turned to look at the Mixed-Blood youth. That young man strode over, an arrogant expression on his face. "We’ll pay for it. Name your price."
The Bull Demon King shot to his feet, his temper flaring. "What’s that supposed to mean? Are you trying to throw money at us? Do we look like we’re short on cash?"
The Wolf Fang Captain stepped in to explain. "My friend, you’ve misunderstood. We’re all away from home, especially here in the Yaoling Mountain Range. We’re all human, so we should help each other."
"Who the hell is human..." the Bull Demon King began, but Tu Xiao’an cut him off. He stood up as well and said, "Look over there. There are plenty of corpses of Awakened Creatures that we just killed. You can take them for food."
The group looked over and, sure enough, saw a pile of beast carcasses nearby. They were stunned and began to wonder privately about the identities of this thin and stout duo.
The very fact that they dared to be in the Yaoling Mountain Range spoke volumes. Add to that the fact they were eating a Rank Two boar—they were clearly no ordinary individuals.
The Wolf Fang Team were Hunters who spent their years in the Yaoling Mountain Range, hunting Rank One and Two Awakened Creatures for profit. The sight of this massive pile of carcasses was a genuine shock.
Were Awakened Creatures so easy to kill? Each one was cunning and strong. A pile of corpses this large was simply unbelievable.
’These two are not to be trifled with.’
"Thank you both," the Wolf Fang Captain said hurriedly. He then turned to his client. "Young Master Qin, we’ll go roast our own meat. We’ll be eating soon."
To be honest, with so many people in their group, even a share of the boar meat wouldn’t have been enough. The pile of other creature corpses was far more suitable.
But Young Master Qin’s brow tightened. "Considering my status, you expect me to eat those carcasses? I want the Rank Two boar meat."
The old man beside him said, "Young Master, we’re far from home; it’s best not to cause trouble. If you want to eat a Unicorn Boar, I can go and catch one for you."
"There’s perfectly good meat right here. Why go through all that trouble?" Young Master Qin looked down his nose at Tu Xiao’an and said, "Just name your price. I’m eating this meat today, one way or another."
Tu Xiao’an’s expression immediately darkened. ’I gave him an out, and he threw it back in my face. Who does this guy think he is, trying to act tough in front of me?’
He sat back down, sliced off another piece of meat with his Flying Knife, and started eating. He completely ignored them, not bothering to waste another word. ’How annoying.’
The Bull Demon King smirked coldly. "Hey, pretty boy. Piss off and cool your head before you get yourself killed."
"You... you called me ’pretty boy’? You bastard! It seems you’re the one with a death wish!" Young Master Qin’s effeminate face twisted with fury, as if his deepest nerve had been struck. "Wolf Fang Team!" he commanded. "I order you to get rid of these two for me!"
The Wolf Fang Captain gave a bitter smile. "Young Master Qin, that’s not a good idea. It’s their food, after all. It’s perfectly reasonable for them to refuse to sell it to us."
’Besides,’ he thought, ’I can tell this duo isn’t to be trifled with. How else could they have killed a Rank Two Unicorn Boar?’
