Chapter 69: 69 | I can See You

The entire wooden cabinet detached from the wall as it swung downward heavily.

Straight toward Selene’s head.

Everything happened in less than a second.

Lyra had been watching Selene curiously ever since she came out from the room. So when the cabinet started to shake. She saw it and also watched saw as the cabinet fell with Selene standing directly beneath it.

Her mouth opened to scream out with warning, but no sound came out.

Mira’s eyes instantly snapped open. Superhuman Heroes hearing range was about a 100 meter radius so she heard as the cabinet started to fall.

She turned around only to watch the cabinet fall directly on Selene.

"Selene!"

Neither Mira nor Lyra could react in time.

The cabinet was already falling. Gravity pulled it down with relentless force. Glasses and cups spilled from inside, shattering against the counter below.

Yet...

At that very instant —

Something shocking happened.

"Crack!"

Something snapped inside of her, like a dam breaking inside her soul.

"BOOM!"

An invisible pulse exploded outward from her body, expanding in every direction like a shockwave made of pure energy. It passed through walls, furniture, and air without disturbing any of it physically.

But to Selene...

The world suddenly changed.

Ripples spread through the air like circles across a still lake. Each ripple carried information. Each wave painted a picture.

Every vibration...

Every heartbeat...

Every movement...

Everything around her became astonishingly clear and she suddenly realized with astonish shock that... she could see.

She couldn’t see with her eyes, but With sound instead.

The pulse she had released bounced off every surface and returned to her. The returning waves carried shapes, distances, and textures. Her brain processed them instantly, constructing a three-dimensional image of her surroundings.

She could feel the cabinet falling above her, she could tell its weight, its speed and even Its trajectory.

Her hand shot upward instinctively.

"Bam!"

The heavy cabinet landed firmly in her palmx stopping it from falling on her, barely an inch above her head.

The impact sent a jolt through her arm. The wood was heavy. The edges dug into her skin. But she easily held it with her strength.

Silence filled the entire apartment.

Broken glass lay scattered across the counter and floor. A coffee mug rolled in a slow circle, its handle snapped off.

Lyra froze in place. One foot was mid-step about to activate her movement technique. Her hand was still reaching toward the kitchen.

Mira’s pupils contracted to pinpoints. Her Spectral Arms had already formed halfway when this shocking thing happened.

Even Selene herself stood motionless. Her breath came in short gasps. Her arm trembled under the weight of the cabinet.

Slowly...

Very slowly...

She lowered the cabinet onto the floor. It landed with a heavy thud as the glasses inside clinked against each other.

Her breathing became uneven. Her chest rose and fell rapidly. Sweat beaded on her forehead.

"What..."

She whispered as her voice trembled in shock.

"I..."

She slowly turned her head.

Although her empty eyes remained unfocused...

She could perceive the outlines of the kitchen. Shapes appeared before her like shadows painted on black canvas.

She couldn’t see colors but she could see clearly in black and white. And the shapes were extremely clear but the details not soo much.

The kitchen counter stretched before her like a long flat shadow.

The refrigerator hummed to her right, its outline clearer than everything else because of the constant vibration of its motor.

The dining table stood in the center of the room, four chairs tucked around it.

Everything appeared like pale silhouettes floating inside an endless black world. Like watching ghosts move through dark water.

She lifted a trembling hand toward her own face.

"...I..."

Tears suddenly welled inside her eyes before spilling over.

"I..."

"I can..."

Her voice cracked as though she still couldn’t believe it.

"I can really see..."

The words barely escaped Selene’s lips before tears spilled down her cheeks. They ran in silent streams, dripping from her jaw onto the floor.

Her entire body trembled from overwhelming emotion that had been locked inside her for years.

For years, she had lived in endless darkness without shapes colors or form, missing countless sunrise and moonlight. Nor even able to see shadows or light of any kind.

Nothing but an eternal black world. A void that swallowed everything. She had forgotten what her own hands looked like. She had forgotten what the sky looked like. She had forgotten what faces looked like.

Yet now...

Although the world before her was slightly blurry and colorless...

Although it was made of vibrations rather than light...

It was still a world and a world she could perceive, a world that existed beyond the darkness.

She slowly lifted both hands, staring at them with disbelief. Rather than seeing flesh and skin, she perceived two hazy silhouettes outlined by countless vibrating waves. She could see her fingers. She could see them move when she wiggled them.

Everything around her was the same.

The walls...

The table...

The chairs...

Even the air itself seemed alive with rippling vibrations. Every surface reflected her pulse back to her, creating a constantly updating image of her surroundings.

It was unlike normal vision.

It was something completely different.

Something that transcended sight itself and she felt that she could see farther and more detailed than true sight even though it isn’t as detailed as real eyes.

She couldn’t see the moles or pores or her finger nails or details like that, but it was still amazing.

"...I can really see..."

Her knees nearly gave out beneath her. She grabbed the edge of the counter to steady herself.

"Selene!"

"Are you alright?"

Selene turned toward the familiar voice and saw Mira in the wheelchair, her neck turned as she faced her and looked at her worriedly.

For the first time...

She wasn’t merely listening to the voice, she could actually distinguish Mira’s figure.

A blurry silhouette sitting in a wheelchair. She could see the wheels. She could see Mira’s arms. She could see her hair falling over her shoulders.

Selene gasped in disbelief and excitement. She slowly walked towards Mira and stopped before her. Bending down slightly,

"I..."

"I can see you..."

Mira froze.
