Chapter 51: 51 | Plans For The Future
Then, suddenly, an intriguing, dangerous idea appeared in his mind.
Crimson flames burned steadily in his left hand.
Blue lightning crackled violently in his right hand.
What would happen if he tried to combine these two highly destructive elements together?
Slowly, he began to move his hands closer together, bringing the two energies toward the center of his chest.
Instantly—
A powerful, alarming sense of danger rang out within his mind.
Dexter’s expression changed immediately, his face turning slightly pale. His heartbeat accelerated rapidly, his chest heaving.
The closer the two energies became, the more violently unstable they felt. It was as though he was trying to force two violently opposing storms into a single, tiny bottle.
If they actually collided and reacted—
The resulting elemental explosion would probably blow up his entire bedroom, and perhaps even injure him severely despite his enhanced physique.
’Nop! I’m not dying anytime soon.’
Dexter immediately pulled his hands apart, extinguishing both energies.
The intense warning feeling in his mind disappeared almost instantly.
He let out a slow, shaky breath.
"That was incredibly dangerous..." he whispered.
Fortunately, his curiosity had not got him killed tonight. The blue lightning slowly faded away into the dark air.
Then, another thought entered his mind.
If the violent, chaotic thunder could not merge with the crimson flames of the Flame Demon bloodline...
What about the Golden Flames?
"Whoosh!"
A pure, bright golden fire erupted above his right palm.
Unlike the violent, blood-red crimson flames, these golden flames felt noble, pure, and incredibly stable, like the light of a divine being.
The bright golden light illuminated every corner of his bedroom, casting warm, clear shadows.
Although the golden flame was highly powerful, its temperature felt noticeably lower and far more controlled than the Ancient Flame Demon’s crimson fire.
Dexter stared at the two distinct flames quietly.
Crimson in his left hand and gold flame in his right hand.
Them slowly, he began bringing them together once more.
However, as Dexter slowly brought the crimson flames and golden flames closer, his internal warning system activated once more.
But this time, the sense of danger was not nearly as overwhelming or terrifying as when he had attempted to combine the lightning and the fire.
Earlier, his instincts had practically screamed at him but this time, the warning felt more like a strong suggestion of caution.
Dexter narrowed his eyes thoughtfully in the golden light.
"So it can probably be done..." he murmured.
"It just isn’t something I shouldn’t try inside the house."
The last thing he wanted to do was to accidentally blow up their small bungalow and turn the girls homeless overnight.
He immediately extinguished both flames, returning the room to its natural darkness.
If he was going to experiment with advanced elemental fusion, he would have to find a highly secure, professional facility to do so safely.
Perhaps a Hero Training Facility.
Or one of the public combat testing grounds located in the mid-districts of the city.
Unfortunately...
Dexter still did not possess an official Hero License.
Without a license, he was still technically considered an ordinary, unawakened civilian by the government, despite possessing a personal strength that could easily rival some veterans.
Hero training grounds were heavily regulated, high-security facilities designed specifically for awakened individuals to train and test their highly destructive abilities safely.
Unauthorized civilians were not allowed entry under any circumstances, and trying to sneak in could result in immediate arrest.
Dexter sighed softly.
That was another important task to add to tomorrow’s busy schedule.
His thoughts soon drifted back toward a much more immediate, practical problem.
Money.
Thirty thousand dollars sounded like a massive fortune to someone from the lower districts.
Until one actually started spending it on high-grade necessities.
A new, comfortable bed for himself.
Three proper, supportive beds for the girls.
Decent furniture to replace their chairs.
Basic household necessities.
Ten thousand credits could easily disappear in the blink of an eye.
Then, there were the heavy medical expenses.
Especially Selene’s medication.
Although the frequency and severity of her freezing episodes had decreased significantly recently hte painful attacks still happened at least once every single day.
Fortunately, thanks to his newly acquired Frost Sense, Dexter could usually detect the cold buildup of frost mana within her body nearly a minute before an attack actually began.
That gave him enough time to prepare and inject the expensive suppressant serum beforehand, weakening the outbreak considerably before she had to suffer through the worst of the pain.
But Dexter knew very well that this was not a permanent cure.
More importantly—
Their current supply of the suppressant serum was almost completely gone.
There was only enough serum left in the small medical box for tomorrow’s dose.
After that...
Nothing.
He needed to buy at least another week’s supply from the specialized pharmacies in the mid-districts. Preferably more, just in case of emergencies.
Then, there was the food.
Especially Lyra’s meals.
Dexter could not help but smile helplessly in the dark as he thought about her.
When she had first arrived at the bungalow, she ate enough food for three grown men, which had shocked him.
A few days later, her appetite grew, and she began eating enough for four.
Then five.
Now?
Lyra was regularly eating enough food for six normal adults every single day. Her appetite had become truly terrifying.
Strangely enough, as he observed her daily life, Dexter had started noticing a clear pattern.
The happier and more comfortable she became in the house...
The more she ate.
The safer she felt around him...
The larger her appetite grew.
Although she was still very quiet, withdrawn, and rarely made eye contact, the difference between the current Lyra and the terrifying silent girl who had first entered this house was already enormous.
Her gloomy, defensive expression had softened noticeably. Perhaps fifty percent compared to before. Maybe even more.
That progress alone made the extra food expenses completely worth it.
As for the Diamond Rice...
Dexter had already decided against using it by itself for their daily meals. It was simply too valuable and potent to use constantly.
Instead, he planned to mix it with ordinary, high-quality rice.
Perhaps seventy percent Diamond Rice and thirty percent regular rice.
