Chapter 323: Chapter 323: Unable to Meet
A newly awakened Companion Spirit is very weak in its early stages and unable to display its true power.
However, a place filled with Thunder Energy like this is very conducive to the growth of this Thunder Element Companion Spirit.
As Ning Xuan considered this, she grew filled with anticipation for the battle tomorrow.
After Yun Han arrived at S12 Resource Star, he had expected to see Ning Xuan soon. Unexpectedly, ten straight days passed. He asked around everywhere and even managed to get transferred to the medical center in Zone 11, but he still couldn’t find Ning Zhi, the alias Ning Xuan was using.
He was here, yet he couldn’t see her.
"Ning Han, quick, lend a hand! We’ve got wounded coming in," someone shouted loudly.
The urgent shout rang out at the entrance of the medical center, marking the beginning of another frantic period.
Yun Han, under the alias Ning Han, looked up and went out to meet them. He saw dozens of blood-soaked soldiers being carried in. Some were unconscious, others had severed limbs, and still others clenched their teeth, bodies rigid and unable to relax as they clutched broken weapons.
The stench of blood and scorched flesh mingled, quickly filling the entire space.
"Severed limbs, over here! Wounds turning black with signs of poisoning, to Section Two! Obvious fractures and deformities, Section Three!" Ning Han was in charge of triage, his steady voice directing the medical assistants to take the wounded to their designated sections.
Although he had only crammed some basic rescue knowledge at the last minute, his years of experience fighting on the battlefield meant he could handle a scene like this.
The medical center was instantly a hive of activity, a cacophony of hurried footsteps, pained groans, and the clang of medical instruments.
"This one has broken ribs and internal bleeding. The injuries are severe. Get him to Section One for emergency treatment."
"These burns are too extensive, and heat toxins have entered the body. Prepare Ice Spiritual Medicine for treatment!"
"This poison is spreading too fast! Where’s the Antidote?"
"Ning Han, we’re short-staffed over here! Get over here and help!" the director of Section One shouted.
Section One was the critical care unit. Its director, an elderly female Doctor, held a position of great authority within the medical center.
When Yun Han heard the director of Section One call for him, a flicker of disgust crossed his face. He was about to pretend he hadn’t heard when a short, young female Doctor blocked his path. "Ning Han, where do you think you’re going? Didn’t you hear my teacher calling for you? Or did you need a personal invitation from me?"
Yun Han glanced at the bustling crowd, then at the surveillance cameras dotted everywhere. Resigned, he followed the woman to Section One.
The director of Section One, Hou Yan, was treating a young soldier whose abdomen had been ripped open by some kind of claw. Blood gushed out, staining the stretcher red. A pale green, healing light emanated from Hou Yan’s palm as she gently placed it over the wound, simultaneously sprinkling a vial of black powder over it.
"AHHH..." The young soldier cried out in agony. But after the initial wave of pain, the gushing blood finally staunched.
Hou Yan glanced smugly in Ning Han’s direction, the wrinkles at the corners of her eyes crinkling. Her gaze held a predatory certainty, as if she was determined to have him.
She had been sentenced to ten years of service on S12 Resource Star for the crime of torturing a Contractor to death. Her term was up this year, and she would soon have all her rights as an S-level Controller restored.
’Once I recover my status as an S-level Controller, I’ll definitely get my hands on Ning Han. I just love these fresh, innocent-looking boys, especially the sight of them crying in despair.’
Hou Yan’s student shoved Yun Han to her side. Swallowing his disgust, he began to assist her.
On an adjacent treatment bed, a young female Doctor struggled to hold down a convulsing patient. The patient’s skin had an eerie, purplish-black hue, a clear sign of severe poisoning.
"It’s no use! The poison has already reached the heart! I have to let blood immediately!" Sweat beaded on the young Doctor’s forehead as she used a small blade to bleed the patient. Unfortunately, despite her best efforts, the severely poisoned soldier soon stopped convulsing and showed no more signs of life.
"Did you see that, Ning Han? Not everyone is cut out to be a Doctor, you know. And certainly not every Doctor possesses a healing light like I do, capable of curing any patient, no matter how grave their injuries." Hou Yan reached out to touch Yun Han, intending to pull him closer.
Yun Han sidestepped her touch without a change in his expression. Quick as a flash, he wheeled a newly arrived poisoned patient in front of Hou Yan.
The patient’s symptoms were identical to the one who had just died—full-body convulsions and that same eerie, purplish-black skin.
"Director Hou, didn’t you just say you can cure any patient, no matter how severe their injuries? Please, use your healing light to save him!" Yun Han said, looking at her with an expectant gaze.
Hou Yan’s smug expression froze, and her brow furrowed. Her eyes darted around until she spotted a patient spurting blood five meters away. She immediately scrambled over. "Ying Chun! This patient is bleeding out! His condition is critical! Get the hemostatic powder, now!" Hou Yan shouted excitedly to her student.
With Hou Yan gone, the same young female Doctor took over the patient’s care. She tried bloodletting again and even administered an Antidote Potion. But despite all her efforts, this patient couldn’t be saved either.
In truth, any Doctor who had been at the medical center long enough knew the score: patients covered in bright red blood and riddled with wounds often weren’t in serious danger. It was the ones with discolored skin, the ones who showed signs of poisoning, who were usually beyond saving.
The toxins from the Star Beasts were simply too varied and strange; they had no Antidote Potions that were a perfect match for them all.
Figures rushed back and forth inside the medical center as shouts echoed continuously. Some patients wept quietly, others gritted their teeth in pain, and still others clung desperately to a Doctor’s wrist, begging for their life.
Yun Han took a deep breath, tamping down his own anxiety. In an environment like this, all he could do was play his part and contribute what little he could.
As Yun Han was cleaning a patient’s wound, he was suddenly shoved hard from behind. He stumbled, nearly falling on top of the patient.
Fortunately, the young female Doctor whose patient had just died caught his arm. Yun Han turned to see Hou Yan’s student shoot him a contemptuous glare before hurrying away.
"Are you alright?" the young female Doctor asked with concern.
"I’m fine." Yun Han quickly withdrew his hand, his expression neutral as he replied.
"You’re Ning Han, right?" the young female Doctor whispered to Yun Han. "You shouldn’t have pushed that poisoned patient on Director Hou. She’s petty and vindictive. Now that you’ve offended her, she won’t let you off the hook."
"Oh, it’s fine," Yun Han said, unconcerned.
