Chapter 407: Subdued
The commotion that was caused by someone suddenly breaking the windows immediately attracted the attention of everyone in the conference room.
Those that were so busy at blaming Amos for what had happened, they immediately stopped talking as they looked dumbfoundedly at the person who had entered.
At first, they just experienced shock, as neither of them had anticipated someone to suddenly barge in, especially through the windows.
But in the next moment, they panicked. Most of those that had entered into the conference room at this moment were not in the dark about the existence of mutants.
Therefore, when it suddenly settled in their minds that someone had just broke in through the windows of a room that was located on the 8th floor of a building, they immediately scrambled.
Some of them did not even bother to ask who this person was, and why he was here, as they immediately rushed out of the conference room.
As for others, they immediately moved away from the location that this person had landed. But even then, they did not immediately leave the conference room, instead, they just maintained a distance between them.
Obviously, most of those that had run away had thought that the person who had just killed people in the conference room had come back.
That was especially for those that had been blaming Amos. They thought that he might have called for that mutant to come back and deal with them.
Of course, they did not even have the time to see that at this moment, Amos was also confused about who this person was.
It was a lady, dressed in black jeans and a pink top, paired with black sneakers. She did not look old, seemingly in her late 20s.
Her black hair was tied in a ponytail, hanging behind her, with a few bangs hanging over her forehead.
As she stood there, observing the situation in the room, she gave a frightening feeling. Even Amos had unknowingly began sweating when she was observing him.
Almost a minute went by, and the lady did not say anything, just observing everything around. Eventually, she finally focused her gaze on Amos, obviously identifying him as the leader of the group here.
"Can you tell me what is going on here?" She asked, her voice indifferent, though, there was a slight frown on her face.
Facing this lady, Amos felt a lot of pressure. And for some reason, he felt much more intimidated in front of her, as compared to when he was facing Jackson.
Therefore, the moment that he was asked that question, he did not even have the chance to compose himself before he quickly responded.
"There was a mutant who came in, and then began killing people. I don’t know his identity, and this is the first time that I am meeting him. I don’t understand what kind of conflict exists between us, but the moment that he arrived, he began killing without saying a word." He was obviously lying.
Even though he was under tremendous pressure, the moment that he began speaking, Amos immediately shifted the story. He understood that at this point, he had to make sure to know who to choose.
At least, for the time being, he had to make sure that he did not cause any problems for Jackson. That guy, if he decided to come back and looking for him, things would get much more complicated to deal with.
It would not be easy to be able to deal with Jackson, considering that he is considered to be part of a secret government organization.
Because of this, there was a very low probability of someone taking on a mission of eliminating Jackson. And more than that, Jackson himself was not a weakling.
Since everything had already happened, and most of the higher-ups of the syndicate had already died, Amos had already thought of the countermeasures to be taken.
From what Jackson had told him before, clearly, Michael would come looking for him. By then, it would be impossible for the syndicate to continue surviving.
Therefore, he had already decided that he was going to leave the country today. If he continued delaying, and Michael suddenly appeared in front of him, what would he do?
He would just have to lay low for quite a while, and maybe even develop in another country, instead of coming back and having to deal with a headache that was Michael.
Upon receiving Amos’ response, the lady did not say anything, instead, she just continued staring at Amos. Clearly, she did not believe what he had just said.
As for the others that were currently within the conference room, they did not know what had happened. It was only after they heard the commotion here and the shooting that they came over.
Because of this, they could not tell if Amos was lying or not. Of course, some doubted, while others believed what he had said.
Despite feeling the pressure from the gaze of this young lady, Amos did not back down. He just continued maintaining contact with her, not yielding.
The lady starred at him for quite a while, before she finally seemed to relent. She changed the topic, as she asked something else, the frown on her face deepening, "You should know about the restrictions, right?"
Amos immediately nodded as he responded, "Of course, I know about them. But you should know, we did not initiate the attack. We were attacked, without even knowing why.
It was a mutant that was attacking, which would obviously be impossible to deal with using ordinary methods. Several mutants acted, unfortunately, they were not strong enough to be able to deal with the intruder."
"Okay, all of you will have to cooperate with the investigation here. If you try to hide anything, there will be consequences that you will have to face. And if it turns out that it was you guys who caused all this commotion on your own, there will be consequences as well." The lady was silent for a moment before she spoke.
Amos maintained his composure as he immediately agreed to help with the investigation. But in his mind, he had already decided, he would have to make sure that Jackson’s identity wasn’t found out.
As for the identity of this lady, as someone who had several mutants working under him, he understood. This lady, she didn’t need to introduce herself, as her presence here and the questions that she had asked were self-explanatory.
Amos had the information regarding that organization that was in charge of monitoring and dealing with mutants within the country. Why was it that it was very rare from mutants to act within the capital?
It was because of this organization, and they always showed up within a few minutes of a mutant taking action. Sometimes, it would even be immediately the mutant took action.
And more than that, they were all incredibly strong. Most of the ordinary mutants could not even last a single round of exchange, before they would be defeated.
It was because of this that all the mutants in the capital were intimidated. Even the forces that those mutants belonged to, would help in ensuring that the mutants in their forces did not take action.
The consequences of the mutants taking action could end up affecting the entire organization, and at times, it could even lead to the complete destruction of a force.
A few minutes after this lady showed up, several more mutants appeared. They were also from that organization, and because the danger a lot showed that several mutants had acted here, obviously, just one might not be enough to be able to deal with all of them.

The following day...
Michael woke up, as the smart watch that was placed on the bedside cabinet gave a notification sound. And in the next moment, Onyx’s voice came through the speaker of the smart watch.
"The situation in the capital has finally settled, but tension is still there. Quite a number of people are acting cautiously, and those that have been identified as mutants can be seen to be much more active as compared to before.
As for Amos, he is still being traced by the mutants from the Observation center. The incident that happened yesterday has already alarmed major figures within the government.
There is a high probability that any mutant that will act within the next few days, will be immediately arrested."
Michael did not have much of a reaction to what Onyx had said. Previously, while working out at the villa, Onyx had already informed him about the events that had happened.
It came as a surprise to Michael that Jackson would actually take action during the day. He expected the guy to take action at night, as it would be much easier to be able to hide his traces.
But it seemed that he wanted to do things efficiently or maybe faster? With the convenience provided by everyone gathering together, it was known that guy took action, even though it was daytime.
As for that guy, Amos, the guy obviously tried to escape. Unfortunately, Michael had already been paying attention to him. Because of this, the moment that he tried to escape, Michael asked Benson to take him in.
The guy was currently locked in the basement of the mansion. Michael did not deal with him the previous night, because the guy had tried to escape at midnight.
Michael was already sleeping at that time, and was not willing to cut his sleep short, just to deal with him.
As Michael was just preparing to freshen up, Kate suddenly entered the room, leaving Michael momentarily puzzled.
