Chapter 406: Alarm, Blame

The conflict between Jackson and the top brass of the blood reapers syndicate was not hidden. That guy, he did things brazenly, even though he thought about covering his face when leaving.

Not to mention that there were a lot of people at the company that day, and Jackson did not try to hide when he was dealing with the security guards at the entrance of the conference room.

And inside the conference room, several gunshots were heard. With the location of the company, even though not at the city center, it was still located in a district that usually had a lot of people.

Because of this, after several shots were fired, panic ensued. Inside and outside the company building, people were scrambling to get away.

As for those that were trying to get to the conference room within the building, they were mostly those that were related to the people that were in the conference room at that time.

Of course, there was another wave that was caused by Jackson, which was not detected by ordinary humans.

....

A few hours earlier...

Inside a special department in the capital, several alarms went off.

The guy who was dozing off immediately shot up from his seat. At first, he seemed to be confused as he looked around the room. But only a few seconds later, he seemed to remember something and immediately panicked.

This guy was the one that was put in charge of monitoring any signs of the presence of mutants within the city. Of course, the detection devices would not detect the presence of mutants at any moment.

Instead, they relied on a high level device that was recently developed to monitor the surrounding area for unusual biological and energy changes linked to mutant abilities.

A network of sensors constantly scanned for sudden spikes in body energy, abnormal heat, pressure waves, electromagnetic changes, and other signs that matched known mutant activity.

The collected data was then sent to a central AI, which compared it with its database in real time. If mutant activity was confirmed, the system immediately sent an alert to the observation center, displaying the location, estimated threat level, time of detection, and the type of activity detected.

Of course, the device was not always accurate, and it still needed quite a number of adjustments. Unfortunately, the speed at which the mutants increased could not wait until the device was fully functional.

Thereby, there were situations where the alarms went off, but the signal detected was not what they wanted. Even though this had already been corrected recently, it was still a cause of concern.

It had already been over half a year since this guy had been posted here. He was not the only one who was on duty today, but because it had been such a long time since he was here, and the alarms never went off, most of those in charge did not pay much attention to this issue.

And at this moment, within the entire establishment, he was the only person left here. This was just in case something happened, like right now.

Looking at the screen in front of him that was showing the red alert, with a few beads of sweat appearing on his forehead, he quickly sat back down.

Immediately after, he began operating the computer, typing on the keyboard continuously, and in a little while, he managed to detect the location of the source of the alarm.

As he looked at it, he could not help but frown slightly. After all, that place, it was full of people from his knowledge. He was born here in the capital, therefore, he was quite familiar with this city.

The source of the anomaly was in a district that while not as busy as the CBD, it was still one of the busy districts within the capital.

His expression hardened as he thought about the consequences of several mutants suddenly showing up in such an area. If they began fighting against each other, the innocent civilians could end up being implicated.

And if they were targeting the civilians, things would get much more complicated. With the abilities of the mutants, it would only be a matter of time before a large number of civilians was killed.

At the thought of this, he did not hesitate to make a call, to inform the higher-ups about the situation.

Thankfully, within the capital, in different parts of the city, several mutants were situated there. Of course, they all acted normal, some of them disguised as ordinary workers or even stall owners and so on.

This was a strategy that was used so that in case something happened, they would be able to respond quickly. After all, the capital was too big to expect that the mutants would be able to get to the area where they would be needed in a short time if they were not close.

It was only after he had passed the information that the guy finally felt relieved. At the same time, he could not help but feel puzzled.

From the signals detected, it was clear that there were at least 4 mutants who had taken action. Who they were, and why they decided to act, that was something that he did not know.

Regardless, he understood, the consequences of several mutants acting like the same thing could be detrimental.

....

Amos stood in place, looking at the dead bodies in the conference room. His gaze did not linger on the bodies for long, as he shifted his gaze and looked at the entrance of the conference room.

At this moment, outside the conference room, there was already a large number of people that had gathered. Of course, none of these people were ordinary, as they were all part of the blood reapers gang, directly or indirectly.

They had previously heard the commotion that had been happening inside the conference room. Therefore, they rushed over, especially after several gunshots were heard.

Things immediately shifted the moment that those that arrived realized that the security guards at the entrance of the conference room had been knocked out.

Initially, some of them wanted to barge into the conference room, but they hesitated. Eventually, just as one of them was about to muster his confidence and open the doors, the doors opened by themselves.

And then, they saw someone, who just by looking at them, left them frozen on the spot. None of them could even think about attacking this person, despite thinking of the probability of this person being the cause of the commotion.

It was only almost a minute later, after Jackson had left, that the group finally came back to their senses. Immediately, they looked into the conference room, and they were left horrified by what they saw.

Bodies were sprawled around on the floor of the conference room. Blood had spilled, in some areas forming a small pool.

It was a few seconds later that the group finally came back to their senses. Immediately, some youngsters rushed into the room, before they went to look at the bodies.

Some of them immediately identified the bodies on the ground, and they began screaming in pain and anger.

"Father! What happened to you?! Who the f*ck killed you?! I will definitely avenge you!"

"Brother, please tell me that you are not dead! You can not die on me like this!"

"Sister, how can you die?! With you gone, who is going to spoil me? How am I supposed to continue living in luxury without you?!"

"Amos! I cannot believe that you are this sinister! You actually decided to kill everyone, just so that nobody can threaten your position as the leader of the syndicate?!"

"That’s right! Even if you did not want them to threaten your position, there were other methods that you could have used! Why did you have to kill?!"

"I always thought that you are a smart person! But today, I have realized that you are a very small-minded person! Before doing something, can you at least consider the consequences of what you have done?!"

"With all these people dead, you should already know that the syndicate is over! All the mutants of the syndicate were here, and they are all dead! How is the syndicate going to survive?! Just the Santos family will be enough to be able to take us down, not to mention all the other enemies that we have!"

When grief and fear struck, at times, people did not consider who they were talking to. Overwhelmed by emotions, while some were grieving about the loss of those that they cared about, others immediately began blaming Amos.

It was to be expected, considering that out of all the people that had come to the conference from today, Amos was the only person alive. And looking at him, it was clear that nobody touched him.

Additionally, they all understood how brutal Amos could be. Therefore, not even for a moment, did they ever think of the possibility that this was not his doing.

While he was being cursed at and blamed, Amos did not really react. At this moment, several people, loyal to him, had already surrounded him.

While they too did not understand why Amos had done this, but since they followed him, they decided to protect him. As for all the other issues, they would be dealt with later.

Regardless, Amos did not pay much attention to whatever was happening around him. It was as if his mind wasn’t even here.

Instead, his mind was lost, wondering, just what kind of method did Michael use to make Jackson do this?

CRASH! BANG!

But as he was still pondering about this, suddenly, the floor to ceiling windows crashed, sending glass fragments flying, as a figure heavily landed in the conference room.
