Chapter 228: The Summon Winter Wraith Class Skill
The flow of verdant essence ramped heavily, bursting through the restraints of the Cryo Chains. Four frames spread and zipped into the distance to create space, while the last was trapped in place.
From behind, the frozen sheet cracked and void bled. The pristine white claw tightened its grip, digging into the creature’s head.
The cracks over the sheet spread and chipped, and with a heavy cackle, it burst into glistening shards—space itself making way for the extreme current of cold.
A silhouette, the owner of the massive claw, walked out. Immediately the fracture began repairing itself. A majestic, beautiful but horrifying creature came into view.
This creature truly bore the embodiment of the very noun Wraith—a sinister mass of pristine air-cutting claws and armor.
Hollow empty sockets in its head blazed with a Prussian blue flame, its maw a jagged mass of bone-crunching glaciers.
Its claw suddenly squeezed, crushing the head of the creature in its arm completely. The other four let out pained screeches as Shaine felt the extinguishment of a piece of her consciousness.
Flinging what was left of the headless corpse, the Wraith stood at a hulking height of 2.78 meters. The earth quaked as the colossus fell to a knee in Elaine’s direction.
A grating, haunting voice like myriad souls in chorus reverberated from its glowing throat: "Greetings, Mistress."
Elaine’s eyes glowed with confusion. She had burnt 100 units of essence, meaning she should be seeing five. So why was there only one?
Her eyes flashed as she felt the overwhelming energy the summon gave off. Instinctively, she could tell this was more powerful than an ordinary Wraith was meant to be.
In that instant, it dawned on her what was happening. She hadn’t channeled separate pulses of 20 units each. Instead, she had charged the class skill with 100 units at once.
Which caused the skill to concentrate all that energy into calling forth a Wraith strong enough to be worth 100 units of essence.
On the other end, Shaine recovered from the backlash that stemmed from the damage to her consciousness.
The eyes of the four blazed red, a crimson glow pulsing across all four bodies. She equipped lightweight armor across them.
Behind their backs, appearing with a flash, were bows. Since her physical body had been destroyed, Shaine wouldn’t be able to access her gene skills.
But what was still accessible were her class skills. As an Arcane Archer with a proficiency of Level 41, her skills were already both at Level 38 and Level 45.
Her Will blazed as her cognitive abilities surged, mental capacity spanning all five bodies into a link.
With a flash, all four burst into separate distinct movements, converging from myriad directions. One flanking from the left leaped into the air, its bow drawn, the arc of the weapon bending to extremes.
A green glow simmered as arrows appeared in place. Its hands whipped, firing five in a blink.
Elaine didn’t need to move. A streak of white tore through the wind—the Wraith’s claw flashed with multiple streaking lights, destroying the projectiles.
The earth beneath the monster’s feet pulsed blue as it pushed forward for the defenseless prey as it fell through the air. Shaine, not even bothering to defend herself, had her other bodies act from various angles.
Converging from various locations, the arrows tore through the wind, some curving from corners, all aimed at vital points.
Elaine’s heart skipped a beat. Even her armor wouldn’t be able to tank this. The Wraith huffed, giving up chase for the free-falling prey.
The Wraith curved in its path, zipping through the frozen plain. Its claws streaked as it shattered all incoming projectiles in a flash.
Its frame came to a halt behind Elaine, casting a protective shadow over its master. Its hollow sockets flamed as it stared at all four retreating prey.
Elaine’s eyes glowed, her essence pulsing as she cast Cryo Chains once more. A streaking blast of blue charged through the air.
But this time, more informed, more prepared—three frames evaded the blast, only one being restricted. Elaine wasted no time. Her scepter tapped against the frozen earth, black mist seeping from the cracks. The gene skill Black Ice activated.
Black, lightless streaks tore through the dark atmosphere of the early night. A huge glacier of black tore into the bound frame, the ice poison eating the body whole in an instant and reducing it to a cloud of obsidian dust.
Three left. Three already charging powerful full attacks. Activating a high damage-dealing class skill, the Wraith growled, veins of blue pulsing across its pristine icy carapace armor.
Elaine fed it a flow of essence rich with ice and, more importantly, death—a pure blend of essence known as Yin to most of the cosmos.
The blend of Elaine’s death and cold energy had grown so intricate and bonded that it had transformed into a higher state of essence.
The currents of Yin coursed through its frame, its blazing sockets growing darker. The ground beneath its feet cracked as it leapt into action.
The three bodies of Shaine were already done with their charge. A mirroring oval sheet appeared like a scope before their glowing arrows.
And the moment the projectiles zipped through the sheet of gold, their mass multiplied, turning from arm-length to the span of a pillar.
The massive simmering gold projectiles streaked towards the Wraith as it scaled the distance in a blur. Its claw whipped through the wind as it met one of the attacks.
With a void-shuddering explosion of impact, the Wraith was sent flying backwards. Gathering itself, its feet tore through the icy ground, using the heating friction to come to a halt, dispelling force.
The impact of damage settled. The veins of blue flickered black, and the mass of the Wraith, to Shaine’s horror, began to swell.
The earth rumbled, caved, and cracked as it took hold of its newly added weight. It burst forward faster, massive craters of footprints left in its wake.
Wind whipped against its icy armor, building heat—a heat that failed to get past the sheer cold the Wraith radiated. Two more projectiles tore from parallel angles, cutting all escape paths.
One tore through its massive shoulder, kicking its frame back, as another ripped through from behind its massive thighs, stripping off its footing.
As an expert Archer who had nearly maxed the proficiency level of her class, her battle IQ in skill utilization was unparalleled.
Elaine, barely familiar with her new class, couldn’t keep up despite having an edge in strength.
Elaine’s gaze flickered as she quickly noted this flaw. Her armor pulsed as pure essence of Yin boiled, her second gene skill igniting.
A gene skill that let her form a battle form off her essence. The armor pulsed with a darker Tyrian glow—almost similar to the Force Embodiment gene skill Seth had, but very different at the same time.
Her eyes burned with a deep blue light as her Wraith gathered itself, the gaping holes from the attacks healing with a soft glow of blue.
Its jagged maw flared, and the three remaining frames of green erupted with light as they drew their bows, letting out a barrage of streaking, burning arrows.
