Chapter 153: Conflict of Choice

Feeling disappointed, he swiped the flash sale system interface away.

He felt if he got more details on the items and class, he’d feel even more tempted to pick it.

Which would be a grave mistake — after all, this was a decision that would stick with him till the very end.

So he promptly switched his attention back to his body, examining the changes and enhancements his body might have undergone.

He mentally scanned himself, prompting a 3D projection of his body. He could feel every organ down to every cell.

His pupils dilated beneath his closed lids as he sensed something... something hot, something different!

His senses honed right toward his kidney. He could feel the warm heat it emitted like a slow-starting furnace.

Right at the top of the kidney were pulsing, throbbing glands.

Instantly, a label promptly appeared from the system.

[Adrenal Matrix!: formerly the adrenal gland, the Adrenaline rush has shifted from its passive defensive state, and now into the active!]

Seth’s fists clenched tight from shock. One had to recall that the humans’ active trait could only be activated once the human was in mortal danger.

Meaning that restriction had been removed, and he could gain the adrenal boost — a stronger version — whenever he so willed it.

His pupils flickered, glowing with light from excitement, but his lids remained closed as he continued sensing his body.

Minutes passed, and Seth discovered that every single thing about him had been changed.

In fact, the evolution caused by this upgrade was comparable to the evolution caused by ascending ranks.

His essence pathways had been bolstered. In fact, new stems had opened up to his brain.

Meaning enhancing his cognition wasn’t impossible anymore. Number two: he could now sense his blood carried traces of essence, all caused by his heart.

With each beat, his heart pulsed with lights of royal purple. Seth watched carefully as he began to channel essence.

And immediately, the heart began to glow — a bronze light coated with a royal purple sheen.

If Seth was to describe it with a name, he would call it an Essence Heart. It was like a furnace of essence. Each time he channeled his essence through, he felt their pressure become amplified.

Tracing the glowing ether pathways that connected to his forehead, an organ emitted a bright amethyst hue.

It was a new organ that had appeared in his brain. Focus zoomed, and the system labeled it.

[Essence Glabella: the core flourishing point of will and intelligence, the new generator powering the brain of a higher life!]

Seth felt a jolt, and his mind suddenly became clearer. He could perceive faster as the Essence Glabella burned.

He could feel the tiny pathways pulsing with light all across his brain matter down to the stems.

Seth’s arm burst into a blur of movements. "It also enhances other cognitive parts."

Like now, the speed of the brain commanding his body had been shortened by vast margins.

Meaning his body could become as fast as his mind.

What a terrifying ability to give a human — a race practically bound to the intelligence stat!

Not only that, his Glabella now fueled the humans’ brain dormant ability to manifest control outside the body.

Meaning... ’Telekinesis’ he declared inwardly, as piles of rocks slowly rose before him, before suddenly erupting into dust.

Suddenly, a torrent of information spiked in his brain, and he understood instantly.

Basically, it seemed the mental control wasn’t as diverse as Seth imagined. Yes, it was telekinesis, but only on a single form of matter.

Some would be able to interact with metal, some earth, others flames. It was endless but divided into organic matter and non-organic matter.

And apparently, his brain influence was geared toward organic matter, and it was...

’Calciu— The fuck? Bones?’ His brows furrowed out of disappointment. He was praying for blood, yet he got... bones?

At least he had to test it out. His mental waves pulsed, and instantly he felt a connection. His essence flared.

"Fuck!" Seth instantly culled his mental waves, killing the reaction before it commenced, leaving Brandon’s bones squeaking.

Brandon, in another room below, scowled from pain that suddenly jolted from his bones out of nowhere.

Seth felt a chill in his heart. ’My bad, my bad, this is better.’

Seth had mistakenly taken hold of Brandon’s marrow, and communicated the only order he could.

Erupt!

It was a good thing he stopped the reaction before it could commence, leaving his friend boneless.

Though there were still things he’d have to test out during battle, this was good already.

At least he was content...

With all these boons that came with the Bronze Human body, it made him wonder what would come with the next upgrade, and the next, and so on?

After all, the facts had been established that humanity could definitely, possibly, have infinite race upgrades.

His mouth watered, but now he understood more intimately why humans were physically weaker than all the races he had met so far.

It was because all their affinity was geared toward intelligence.

Before, back when he was a normal human, his brain consumed twenty percent of his body’s energy. After awakening, it increased to a whopping fifty percent.

And now, speaking of burning essence alone, his brain now burned seventy percent more essence than the rest of his body!

Humanity focused all stats on intelligence. Comparing other races to them would be unfair, but it came at the cost of lacking the raw physical might and durability of others.

Looking at the Bloodborne, for example — comparing a human to them, and you would see how frail humans were in comparison.

But this upgrade amplified the usage of the brain to fill this flaw.

By speeding his reflexes to the same processing speed as his brain, this allowed his evasive capabilities to soar, covering for defense.

Plus, his blood was thicker, and the walls of his veins had thickened, allowing them to endure more pressure. So now, once they bolstered his muscles, the efficiency of his strength would soar!

It was like his body was slowly being wired to sync with his overwhelmingly high cognitive capabilities.

This body really was countless times greater. In comparison, one was just a dull shell of the other.
