Chapter 169: Chapter 169: The Calling

Damon moved through the valley.

The feeling grew stronger with every step. It was not a sound. It was not a pull.

It was something deeper, like a memory trying to surface from a dream he had never lived.

The Chaos Devourer pulsed from inside his soul.

He followed the sensation through a field of glowing blue grass. The blades parted around his legs and left trails of light that faded behind him.

The air grew heavier. The temperature dropped.

A cliff face rose before him.

Black stone. Veins of silver ran through it like frozen lightning. And at the base, a crack in the rock. Just wide enough for a person to slip through.

The feeling came from inside.

Damon stopped at the entrance and looked into the darkness. His Incubus Celestial Eyes pierced the shadows. The tunnel stretched deep into the mountain. He could not see the end.

He stepped forward.

The moment his foot crossed the threshold, a wave of energy washed over him. It was cold. Ancient. It pressed against his skin like a thousand years of weight.

He kept moving.

The tunnel opened into a chamber. The walls were smooth, carved by something far older than human hands. Silver light pulsed from the veins in the stone, casting the room in a pale glow.

And in the center of the chamber stood Seraphina.

She turned when she heard him enter. Her eyes widened.

"Damon?" Her voice was a mere whisper, muffled by the oppressive, ancient silence of the cavern, yet it carried a sharp edge of disbelief that cut through the stagnant air.

She stood motionless, the ambient silver glow reflecting off her skin and highlighting the rigid, defensive posture she still maintained.

He halted in his tracks, his leather boots crunching faintly against the crystalline dust that coated the floor.

The golden luminescence of his celestial eyes softened, the shifting patterns within his pupils settling as he assessed her, his gaze sweeping over her with an effortless, predatory elegance.

"Seraphina," he replied, his voice smooth and resonant, carrying the natural, magnetic authority that had defined his rise to power.

He offered her a faint, knowing smile—a look that was at once disarming and deeply calculating—as he let the weight of his presence fill the space between them.

She was the fire cultivator from the tournament. Red hair. Sharp eyes.

A body wrapped in tight robes that did nothing to hide her curves. She held a curved blade in her hand, half-drawn.

"What are you doing here?" he asked.

She lowered her sword.

"I could ask you the same thing."

Damon stepped closer. The feeling in his chest pulsed stronger now. It was not just him. The Chaos Devourer was reacting to something in this cave.

"I followed a feeling," he said. "Something called me here."

Seraphina’s eyes flickered.

"Me too."

She sheathed her blade and crossed her arms. Her gaze swept the chamber, searching for the source.

"I landed near a river," she said. "I was going to head east, but then I felt it. A pull. Like something was waiting for me."

She looked at him.

"I thought I was imagining things."

Damon shook his head.

"You are not."

He looked deeper into the cave. There was another passage at the far end of the chamber. It sloped downward into darkness.

The pull came from there.

"I felt it the moment I entered this realm." he said.

Seraphina raised an eyebrow.

Damon did not explain. He walked toward the passage and stopped at the entrance.

"I’m going inside," Damon stated, his voice calm yet carrying the unmistakable weight of command.

His luminous golden eyes scanned the darkness, his silhouette striking an imposing figure against the gloom of the cavern.

Seraphina hesitated for a fleeting moment, her fingers tightening reflexively around the hilt of her blade, but the magnetism of his presence held her interest.

With a decisive step, she closed the distance, coming to stand firmly beside him.

"I’m going too," she declared, her tone leaving no room for negotiation.

Damon turned his head slightly, his sharp jawline etched by the dim light of the glowing veins. He scrutinized her, his expression a mixture of caution and intrigue.

"You do not have to bind your fate to this mystery, Seraphina. The danger ahead is unknown."

She met his intense gaze without wavering, her demeanor radiating a newfound, spirited confidence that matched his own.

"I am fully aware of the risks," she replied, a faint, daring smile playing upon her lips.

"I know it is my choice, yet I find I have no intention of letting you face whatever nightmare dwells in that blackness alone. I want to be there."

She smiled. It was a sharp smile. Confident.

"Besides, if something dangerous is down there, I would rather face it with someone who can actually fight."

Damon said nothing. He turned and entered the cave.

The tunnel sloped downward for what felt like an hour.

The walls grew narrower.

The silver veins glowed brighter.

The air grew thick and heavy, pressing against their lungs.

Seraphina stayed close behind him.

"Can you feel that?" she whispered.

"Yes."

The pressure was building. It was not just spiritual pressure. It was something older. Something that existed before cultivation. Before the realms.

The tunnel opened into a massive cavern.

The ceiling was lost in darkness. The floor was smooth black stone, polished to a mirror finish. And in the center of the cavern, a pillar of crystallized light rose from the ground.

It pulsed.

Like a heartbeat.

Damon stopped at the edge of the cavern. Seraphina stood beside him, her hand on her sword.

"What is that?" she asked.

Damon did not answer.

The Chaos Devourer screamed in his soul space. It wanted to devour that pillar. It wanted to consume everything in this cavern.

He forced it down.

And then they heard it.

A voice.

It came from everywhere and nowhere. It resonated in the stone. In the air. In their bones.

"Finally. Someone come."

The voice was old. Ancient. It carried the weight of eons.
