Chapter 139: Chapter 139: The Sect Tournament [2]
Sect Leader Hector descended from the upper platform without ceremony.
No announcement preceded him, no herald called his name.
He simply appeared at the edge of the main stage, and the noise of several thousand disciples dropped to nothing in the space of two seconds.
That was the kind of authority that couldn’t be performed.
He wore plain grey robes, no sect insignia, no ornamental trim. His hands were folded behind his back.
His cultivation pressure was completely contained, which somehow made it worse, because the crowd knew what he was capable of and the absence of it felt deliberate.
He let the silence hold for a moment before he spoke.
"Thirty-two disciples registered for today’s tournament." Sect Leader Hector said, his voice carrying across the entire arena without effort.
"The format is single elimination. Sixteen matches in the first round, eight in the second, four in the third. The final eight people will determine the seven representatives who will stand for the Azure Dragon Sect at the Eastern Continent Tournament and the last one will be the reserve representative."
He paused.
"There are no restrictions on technique. There are no restrictions on cultivation realm within the Earth Spirit Realm. You may concede at any time. The barrier formations will prevent lethal outcomes, but I will not promise they prevent pain."
A few outer disciples in the upper tiers shifted in their seats.
"Killing intent is permitted. Killing is not." Sect Leader Hector’s gaze moved across the stage floor where the thirty-two participants stood.
"The elders overseeing each match have final authority. Their word ends the fight. Argue with them and you are disqualified."
He looked at the crowd once, then back at the participants.
"Begin registration for match assignments."
He stepped off the stage and was gone before the applause started.
An elder near the eastern gate produced a wooden box and began calling names forward one at a time to draw match tokens.
Damon stood near the back of the group with his hands loose at his sides, watching the draws happen.
Ariel stood beside him, her fingers wrapped around the Trident’s shaft at her back.
She was watching the stage with the focused, quiet expression she always carried before a fight now, nothing like the nervous girl who had worried about the selection test months ago.
Mio leaned against the barrier wall to his left, arms folded, eyes half-closed.
Mia stood two steps away from her twin, watching the crowd instead of the stage, cataloguing.
Damon reached into his status window without moving.
[Lust Points: 9,000,000]
This is the result of three weeks of constant sex.
Although its not enough to make him peak Heavenly Spirit Realm.
’Well, no disciple at that realm, elder maybe, but Selene can take care of it.’
If the fight went sideways, if someone showed up with a bloodline or technique he hadn’t accounted for, he could push his displayed cultivation from Earth Spirit Realm First Level to Third, Fourth, higher, mid-fight, and it would look like a breakthrough in the middle of a battle to anyone watching.
The crowd would lose their absolute minds trying to make sense of it, scrambling for explanations that didn’t exist. Every elder in the stands would lean forward in their seats.
Sect Leader Hector would probably raise a single, measured eyebrow and say nothing, which was somehow worse.
Damon closed the window, letting the numbers dissolve back into nothing.
That was all he needed to know.

On the far side of the registration area, near the inner wall of the lower seating section, Kai Reventon stood with two disciples positioned close enough to speak quietly.
One of them, a thin young man with a narrow face and a grey inner disciple sash, kept his voice low and his eyes forward so it looked like he was watching the draw.
"The Aquaria girl has been living at Elder Selene’s mansion since the inner disciple test," the man said.
"The Nightrider twins visit daily. Sometimes they stay overnight."
Kai’s jaw moved.
"All three of them."
"Yes, Young Master. Our contact in the outer court confirmed it. The Aquaria girl always with him. The twins appear to have formed some kind of bond as well. Lady Mei also has been seen at the mansion on multiple occasions."
Kai said nothing for a long moment.
He watched Damon across the registration floor, standing there with his hands at his sides like the arena and everyone in it was mildly interesting at best.
The Nightrider twins flanked him.
The Aquaria girl stood at his shoulder.
Kai’s teeth pressed together behind closed lips.
His family had pushed the age limit through the council specifically for this.
Specifically to stand across from Damon Arcknight on a public stage, in front of every disciple in the sect, and take apart everything he had built piece by piece.
A clean kill would have been simpler.
But clean kills didn’t send messages.
"If we draw the same bracket," Kai said, his voice completely level, "I will not be ending the match quickly."
The thin disciple nodded carefully.
"I want him unable to walk off the stage," Kai continued.
"I want every disciple in this arena to see what happens to common-born trash who reaches above his station."
He glanced at the Nightrider twins again, then away.
"His women can watch."
Neither subordinate responded to that.
Kai straightened his robes and moved toward the draw line without another word, his cultivation pressure rolling out just enough that the disciples ahead of him stepped aside without being asked.

Damon’s name was called.
He walked forward, reached into the wooden box, and pulled a token without looking at it.
Pale blue. Number Sixteen.
He turned it over once, then closed his fingers around it and walked back to his position.
Ariel glanced at him.
"Sixteen. It the last one." he said.
She nodded and held up her own token.
One.
Opposite bracket.
Damon looked across the floor to where Kai stood reading his own token, and watched the man’s expression stay completely still in the way that meant the opposite of calm.
