Chapter 138: Chapter 138: The Sect Tournament [1]
Three weeks passed in a blur.
The mansion’s training hall became their world.
Ariel training with the Trident until the movements stopped being movements and started being instinct.
Mio and Mia cycled through the new techniques he had given them, absorbing his yang qi each night until their foundations were dense and settled.
Selene worked alone in her private training room for hours at a stretch, emerging only at meals, her expression always carrying that particular focused blankness of someone reorganizing everything they thought they knew.
While Damon just watch, his job was too fill them up with yang qi every night.
The results came quietly, the way real progress always does.
Ariel broke through to Earth Spirit Realm Second Level, waking Damon up with her arms around his neck and her face pressed into his shoulder, trembling slightly from the energy surge.
Mio and Mia reached Heavenly Spirit Realm together, which surprised even him.
He had expected it to take longer.
But their spiritual roots were now at Heaven Grade, and the techniques he had given them fit their affinities like they had been designed specifically for them.
Selene’s cultivation didn’t move.
She didn’t seem troubled by it.
She told him plainly one evening while cleaning her blade in the courtyard that its normal since a normal cultivator at her realm usually take years just to advance one level
What changed in her was the sword.
Her Sword Aura had a different quality to it.
Sharper. More compressed.
Like she had taken everything she knew and stripped away the excess until only the essential remained.
Damon watched her from the courtyard doorway one evening, her sword moving through the cold air in slow arcs, and thought that she was going to be terrifying.

The morning of the sect tournament arrived grey and bright at the same time, the kind of sky that couldn’t decide between cloud and sun.
Damon dressed in his inner disciple robes, the white and azure fabric clean against his frame, and waited in the main hall while Ariel finished her hair.
Neko sat on the table in cat form, tail flicking, watching the door with round silver eyes.
Selene had already left. She would be seated with the elders.
The five of them, Damon, Ariel, Mio, Mia, and Neko tucked into Mio’s sleeve, walked the mountain path down toward the arena together.
They heard it before they saw it.
The noise of several thousand disciples gathered in one place has a particular weight to it, a low, constant pressure that builds as you get closer.
By the time the arena came into view, Damon could feel it in his chest.
Every disciple in the Azure Dragon Sect was here.
Outer disciples packed the upper rings of the stone seating in dense clusters, their white robes filling the stands like snow.
Inner disciples occupied the middle tiers.
Core disciples sat in the lower sections near the stage, their black and gold robes standing out sharply against the crowd.
The arena floor itself was vast, a wide circular stage of reinforced stone with barrier formations etched into the ground in pale blue lines.
Damon led Ariel to the registration desk near the eastern gate.
The elder behind the desk looked up, glanced at their inner disciple robes, and opened his mouth to direct them toward the inner disciple queue.
Then his eyes dropped to the cultivation pressure they were both passively radiating.
He closed his mouth.
He looked again.
"Earth Spirit Realm?" he said.
"Both of us," Damon confirmed.
The elder wrote their names without another word, but his brush moved slower than it should have, and Damon noticed him glance up twice more before they stepped away from the desk.
The whispers started immediately.
Not subtle ones. The kind that spread outward through a crowd like a stone dropped in still water, each ring wider than the last.
"Inner disciples at Earth Spirit Realm?"
"How old are they, eighteen, nineteen?"
"That’s the one who killed Jack Frostborn."
Ariel kept her chin level and her expression composed, though Damon caught the faint color in her cheeks.
He touched the back of her hand briefly as they walked toward the waiting area, and she exhaled.
Then the atmosphere shifted.
A different kind of pressure rolled through the arena entrance, heavy and deliberate, the kind that announces itself before the person does.
Kai Reventon walked in like he owned the ground beneath him.
He was tall, broad-shouldered, dressed in core disciple robes trimmed with silver thread that caught the grey morning light.
His dark hair was pulled back sharply, and his face carried the particular expression of someone who has spent their entire life being told they are exceptional.
His cultivation aura pressed outward without restraint.
Heavenly Spirit Realm, First Level.
The crowd reacted. Outer disciples leaned forward. Murmurs of recognition moved through the tiers. A few core disciples near the lower seats straightened.
Kai’s eyes found Damon across the registration area immediately, like he had been looking before he even entered.
The murderous intent in that gaze was not hidden.
It wasn’t even dressed up. It sat there on the surface, flat and cold and patient.
Damon met it without expression.
Then Mio and Mia walked through together.
The silence that followed was immediate and complete, the way silence only happens when an entire crowd forgets to speak at the same time.
Even the elder at the registration desk looked up.
Mio’s ponytail swayed with each step, her core disciple robes fitted and sharp, her cultivation pressure rolling out ahead of her with the easy confidence of someone who had no reason to contain it.
Mia walked half a step behind, quieter, but the pressure coming off her was identical.
Heavenly Spirit Realm.
Both of them.
An elder in the lower seating section stood up without appearing to realize he had done it.
Kai’s gaze snapped to the twins, and something moved across his face that wasn’t quite anger and wasn’t quite fear, but lived in the space between them.
Mio caught Damon’s eye across the registration floor and smiled, bright and uncomplicated.
Mia just looked at him, and the corner of her mouth moved slightly.
