Chapter 44: Don’t give him any space to think!
Roselina sat upon the sofa with deeply flushed cheeks, feeling the actual pain that radiated through her face as a result of her repeated and powerful slaps.
"I cannot believe this... How... how is this even conceivable?" she murmured in a low voice, massaging her face in sheer shock.
However, Lucy, who had grown weary of these childish interruptions and this dramatic manner of handling things, unleashed her Imperial Aura with greater intensity this time. She directed her stern gaze directly toward Roselina, who began to tremble entirely under the weight of this massive spiritual pressure.
"Did you just interrupt my words? Do you know the punishment for one who dares to interrupt me?" Lucy said in a cold, grave tone.
Roselina was on the verge of tears; all these successive surprises, shocking twists, and terrifying auras were far beyond the endurance of a pregnant woman like her in her early months! She shrank into herself and cried out in terror:
"I am sorry! I am truly sorry! I swear I will remain completely silent this time... You can continue speaking as you wish... I will shut my mouth immediately!"
In the next moment, the heavy aura was entirely lifted from the room, and the expressions on Lucy’s face returned to gentleness and tenderness once more. She exhaled, saying in a sorrowful tone:
"I truly do not understand... even you, his sister, did not accept me so easily and trembled in fear before me, so how can he possibly accept me in his life? Do you know that feeling that grips you after you try to summon all your courage... only to reap nothing but disappointment in the end? I have not even possessed sufficient courage until now to confess the reality of my feelings to him... Do you believe he will reject me and flee from me?"
Roselina swiftly attempted to deny the matter, speaking with trepidation, "No, no! Lady Lucy, I truly did not mean anything bad. Forgive me for my foolishness and haste... I did not comprehend your kind nature."
Lucy fell silent for a brief moment, then looked at her with a faint smile and said, "You only say this now because you are afraid of me... I at least attempted to share this secret with you to observe your reaction after informing you of the truth... But it does not matter, for I cannot alter the hearts of people by force."
Due to these words filled with sudden human vulnerability, Roselina felt a genuine prick of conscience, realizing that she had utterly wronged Lucy with her previous superficial glances and preconceived judgments.
She is a woman in the end, exactly like me... possessing fervent emotions and delicate feelings... and her being dubbed the ’Empress of Blood’ does not mean at all that her right to love and be loved should be stripped away! Roselina thought sympathetically.
She spoke in a sincere tone, "I am truly sorry, Lady Lucy... I cast a mistaken and unjust gaze upon you from the very beginning, even though you have not harmed me or my family in any way."
A warm and tender smile etched itself onto Lucy’s face as she gazed at her, speaking softly, "Thank you..."
This delicate gratitude made Roselina feel even more guilty; Lucy appeared before her now far removed from the source of danger she had envisioned. Rather, she saw in her a delicate girl whose feelings were negatively impacted due to others’ fear of her. She spoke enthusiastically to lighten the mood, "Well, Lady Lucy... you can proceed from where we paused. I am all ears!"
Lucy continued to smile, maintaining a melancholic tone, "In truth... I have always been a person who does not possess much patience, and I have been treated in a bad and harsh manner by everyone since my youth. Therefore, I always resorted to cruelty as a shield to protect myself, and from there, that terrifying, bloody reputation spread about me outside..."
Roselina nodded her head, feeling a profound understanding; in this world, there are humans who are viler and harsher than anyone can possibly conceive. She envisioned in her mind the young girl Lucy being subjected to persecution, ostracization, and injustice in her childhood, a scene that was highly painful to her heart.
Lucy continued, her eyes shimmering, "I have always wanted this bloody reputation to vanish... not because I care for the opinion of the public, but solely so that Cain does not feel aversion or disgust toward me... for I am ultimately considered a ’villainess’ in the eyes of the world, while he is a respected and noble duke..."
Roselina could scarcely believe what her ears were hearing! How could this lazy and useless brother of hers make the heart of an ideal, powerful, and beautiful girl like Lucy ache and lament so?
Roselina shouted in defensive enthusiasm, "Do not worry at all, Lady Lucy! I can teach him a harsh lesson he won’t forget for the rest of his life if he dares to reject an ideal and magnificent woman like you! In fact, I am astonished now... don’t you two look exactly like a real family? I was sitting beside you yesterday, observing you both playing cards and talking... This is clear love, as plain as day!"
Lucy shook her head in a bashful manner tinged with doubt, saying, "He certainly does so merely out of courtesy and politeness... but I will never despair. I brought him here yesterday after saving his life from that danger... and I will decide when he wakes up and I observe his reaction to what transpired yesterday. If he remembers what happened, I shall confront him with everything immediately... and if he does not remember, I will be forced to delay the matter and the confession for a bit."
Here, Roselina could not restrain her noble instinct to intervene and support this relationship.
She rose from her place on the sofa with confident strides, advancing until she stood directly before Lucy. Then, she placed her hands firmly upon Lucy’s shoulders, speaking in an expert tone with a clever wink:
"Lady Lucy... have you ever read the book... ’The Ideal Method to Conquer and Master a Man’s Heart’?"
Lucy’s eyes widened in astonishment and sudden interest, and she asked in an inquiring tone, "Is this book... the very one written by the famous author of the book: ’How to Tame Your Husband and Make Him Love You Like a Mature, Open-Minded Woman’?"
Roselina nodded her head with immense enthusiasm and pride, "Exactly! That very one! So since you know the author, you must know the most critical and dangerous advice for conquest on page 245... in the primary, most important line: (Conquer... conquer... conquer! Do not grant him room to think, and do not leave him a loophole to escape!... Control his thoughts entirely, and be present around him and in his vicinity in every place and time!)"
At that exact moment, Lucy felt as though a thunderbolt of enlightenment had struck her mind, and her emotional codes shook violently. She had been inspired by something, and the concept of "Absolute Conquest and Encirclement" began to take shape in her mind with terrifying clarity!
