Chapter 42: She is actually my daughter
Inside the world of Roselina’s dreams, she was subjected to surreal and terrifying torture scenes of various forms. Her older brother, Cain, was having his limbs brutally severed before her very eyes, while she was bound to a wooden chair, a foul rag stuffed into her mouth making her want to vomit. Meanwhile, Cain raised his pleading eyes, weakly begging her to help him.
As Lucy pointed a sharp knife at her, dripping heavily with Cain’s blood—having tortured him sufficiently with a blunt blade and severed all his limbs—she advanced toward her with a ghastly smile. She gestured at Roselina with the edge of the weapon, speaking in cold blood: "You’re next..."
Roselina shrieked in her sleep with the absolute peak of her voice, "Noooooooo!!" while in a state of sheer panic, trembling entirely.
Outside the dream world, and in reality...
Morning had long since arrived, and the golden rays of the sun reflected off the refreshing beach air. Amelia and Lucy were sitting with utter composure around the gaming table, exchanging playing cards in an atmosphere of unparalleled harmony.
Yet every now and then... the peaceful ambiance was violently shattered.
Roselina, lying on the nearby sofa, would release sudden shrieks of panic in her sleep, only to return to a deep slumber within fractions of a second, as though nothing had occurred!
"Ugh... this is highly annoying! When will she wake up and stop this continuous screaming?" Amelia grumbled, clutching her cards, directing her gaze toward her mother, Lucy, awaiting an answer.
Lucy threw a card onto the table and said helplessly, "I have absolutely no idea... She is sleeping, not unconscious. I tried to awaken her a moments ago, but it seems that every time she begins to wake up and registers my presence, she plummets right back into the depths of sleep... Am I truly that terrifying?!"
Amelia contemplated her with a discerning gaze. In the end, her mother Lucy did not look terrifying; rather, she was exquisite and attractive. However, the gravest mistake was their aggressive entrance last night, without considering that her noble aunt, Roselina, would suffer the shock of her life. Throughout the morning, the two had amused themselves by betting on the exact time Roselina would shriek next, but after a while, the matter transformed into a genuine nuisance.
"Nooooo!... Do not kill me...!"
Roselina repeated once more in a tearful tone, writhing upon the sofa.
Finally, Lucy tossed her cards onto the table with impatience, deciding it was high time to awaken her sister-in-law and bring her back to reality before her heart suffered any mishap due to this bizarre state.
Amelia advanced with her small, short steps until she arrived beside her aunt, Roselina, who was deeply immersed in her twisted nightmare.
"Aunt... Aunt... wake up!" Amelia began to push her aunt’s cheek with her small hand with force and persistence, while Roselina began to emit strange, muffled groaning sounds as she gradually revived and opened her heavy eyelids.
"Aunt, are you finally awake?" Roselina slowly opened her eyes, and the blurred vision began to clarify before her, catching sight of Amelia’s small face very close to her own.
Roselina’s eyes widened in horror, and she grasped the little one’s shoulders, speaking in a panicked whisper, "Amelia... go hide immediately!... She is a bloody witch... She loves killing small children like you and tearing them apart!"
Amelia’s face contorted, highly displeased by her aunt’s words regarding her mother. Despite everything, her mother Lucy was a refined being who only consumed specific, highly clean types of meat and maintained a strict, organized diet! She spoke in a dry tone:
"Aunt... calm down please, there is absolutely nothing of what you imagine in your mind."
However, Roselina turned her head cautiously, her eyes colliding directly with Lucy, who was seated at the card table.
When Lucy saw that Roselina was looking at her, she raised the playing cards high with her hand, painting the gentlest, softest smile she could manifest upon her face to show goodwill. She spoke in a welcoming tone, "Oh, won’t you come and play with us? We have prepared a comfortable seat for you here, and we have been waiting for you since morning so we can enjoy ourselves together!"
Yet that gentle smile was, to Roselina, akin to the smile of the Grim Reaper! She was struck by acute terror. By a swift, instinctive movement, she violently pulled Amelia into her embrace, turning her back completely toward Lucy to shield the child with her body, while Amelia was sandwiched within her trembling arms upon the sofa.
Roselina screamed with tears flooding her eyes, "Please!... Please do not kill the child!... She is still far too young to die!... You can torture and kill me instead of her, just let her live!"
Amelia’s face froze entirely while packed inside this suffocating hug, looking at the lines of her aunt’s panicked face and her arms that trembled over her body, "What are you saying, Aunt...? What is this nonsense?"
Roselina swiftly replied, covering Amelia’s mouth to silence her, and continued in a dramatic tone of sacrifice, "I learned last night... only last night thanks to you that I am pregnant with my little parasite... I have always wanted to have a smart and beautiful child like you, Amelia... So live well for my sake out there..."
An absolute, stern silence loomed over the entire room. Amelia was being squeezed and was on the verge of choking from the strength of her aunt’s embrace. As for Lucy... she felt a sharp, sudden prick in her heart. Was her beloved Cain’s sister afraid of her and revered her to this terrifying extent? Was hiding in the guise of Maxi the superior choice so she wouldn’t flee from her? Dark thoughts began to invade her mind.
However, when she looked once more at Roselina, who was on the verge of crushing her daughter Amelia between her arms out of sheer tension... Lucy’s sorrow swiftly morphed into absolute rage!
Lucy snapped in vexation, standing up and folding her arms across her chest, "Hey!... How long will you continue to squeeze and compress my daughter in this foolish manner? She is going to faint because of you!"
The blood froze entirely in Roselina’s veins... This sentence was the absolute last thing her mental faculty could expect or comprehend in this universe! The daughter... of whom?!
A thousand question marks suddenly manifested above Roselina’s head, and she literally felt that a large portion of her brain had suffered erosion and melting due to the utter lack of logic in those words.
She turned with a near-insane look toward Lucy, speaking with a hysterical, disjointed laugh, "Hahaha... heh... I understand this tactic now!... You are of that insane, sadistic, professional psychopathic type! The one who enjoys practicing psychological drama upon the victim, deceiving her by offering false hope and family stories before utterly destroying and killing her, isn’t that right?!"
To Roselina’s panicked mind, this interpretation was the sole, most logical shield protecting her from insanity!
Lucy was on the verge of stepping forward to strike this woman’s face with a light slap to restore her flying sanity and halt this cheap drama.
During this time, Amelia fought hard to loosen her aunt’s grip, speaking in a muffled voice and a serious tone, "Aunt... calm down and listen to me well... She isn’t acting, she is already biologically my real mother!"
Roselina’s face suddenly ceased to exhibit any reaction or expression, her features turning completely as though cast from rigid tin. She looked down at the calm Amelia... then rotated her neck extremely slowly, like a rusted machine, to look at Lucy standing there, crossing her arms and observing her with boredom and annoyance...
Roselina blinked several times in shock, speaking in a low voice devoid of any energy:
"I... I understand absolutely nothing of what is happening in this accursed world..."
