Chapter 196: Chapter 140: Who Are You?
Chu Susu’s voice was soft and gentle as she once again questioned Zheng Xiu, "Brother Zheng, a single Constellation was able to push you to this state. Ye Weiyang is numerous and powerful, with an endless stream of Miracle Masters. If the ones who come are truly the Twelfth Moon, I’m afraid... Although I am a Tower Chief of the Incompleteness Tower, I am not skilled in combat. It was sheer luck that I could be of assistance to you this time, and there’s no doubt that you are incredibly strong. But what I worry about is that you’ll be outnumbered. If we continue north, I fear that Mystic Feng Bei will fall into the hands of Ye Weiyang."
Zheng Xiu smiled and shook his head. "I’ve changed my mind."
Chu Susu froze at his words.
"We’re heading west, into the Great Desert! After today’s events, my opinion of your Incompleteness Tower has changed. I hope the Incompleteness Tower won’t refuse us entry."
"You mean..." Chu Susu’s eyes widened in disbelief. "You’re going to the Great Desert?"
Zheng Xiu smiled and retorted, "What? Is the Incompleteness Tower not welcoming?"
An irrepressible joy bloomed in Chu Susu’s eyes. "Welcome! Of course you’re welcome! The Tower Master will be ecstatic!"
The three of them set off again, abandoning their journey north and turning west instead.
Although Chu Susu was unfamiliar with the nearby roads, as long as they got out of the forest and headed west, they would eventually find a suitable path.
After Zheng Xiu, Chu Susu, and Ruchen left, a sneaky Raven lurking in the shadows of the trees stared intently at their retreating figures, then flapped its wings and soared high into the sky.
Finally!
As they journeyed through the Ghost Wail Forest, Chu Susu remained silent.
’But she could hardly contain the joy in her heart!’
’Finally, finally, finally!’
All Chu Susu wanted to do was laugh.
After leaving the Ghost Wail Forest, a small village lay five li ahead.
They had battled Kui Lang in the Ghost Wail Forest for half the night, and by the time they reached the village, it was nearly dawn.
The trio rested briefly outside the village. When the villagers began to wake and smoke started rising from the chimneys of the farmhouses, Zheng Xiu opened his eyes, dusted himself off, and said to Chu Susu, "Susu, Ruchen and I are a mess. If we enter the village, people might get the wrong idea. I’ll have to trouble you to go into the village and buy three swift horses. We can’t possibly enter the Great Desert on our own two feet."
"You’re absolutely right, Brother Zheng." Chu Susu looked back with a dazzling smile. ’It was worth it for me to go against my nature and use my looks,’ she thought. ’Look at this steely Mighty Man’s attitude toward me now—it’s done a complete one-eighty. He’s as gentle as water. That, combined with his ruggedly handsome face, almost made me lose myself in this Mighty Man’s tenderness.’
’Hmph. Men.’
Chu Susu agreed in a soft voice and entered the village alone.
Chu Susu asked around at several farmhouses and finally managed to buy two old, thin horses. She looked at the two thin horses, her heart conflicted.
’There are only two horses. Who would ride with whom? Who would gallop through the mortal world as companions?’
At the thought that the Mighty Man might offer to share a horse with her, bouncing up and down on the saddle, Chu Susu felt a mix of fear and anticipation. ’Pah! I only did what I had to do. My whole reason for using my looks was to get the Mighty Man to go to the Incompleteness Tower. Now that my goal is achieved, I’ll go back to being my usual reserved self and make it clear to him that I had no other choice at the time.’
Just as Chu Susu was leading one thin horse in each hand and walking out of the village, a pitch-black streak of light suddenly shot into the sky. Under the broad daylight, the inky streamer was like a bolt of black silk, splitting the gray-white heavens in two.
"Susu, there’s been a change of plans! We’re going on ahead, see you in the Great Desert!"
From high in the air, the Mighty Man’s hearty laughter drifted down from afar.
The astonished beauty stared blankly at the figure flying farther and farther away. Only when the streak of light vanished behind a mountain did Chu Susu snap back to her senses. Her red lips trembled, and she pointed in the direction the Mighty Man had disappeared, clutching her chest and gasping for breath, so angry she was speechless for a long time.
’What happened to heading west together?’
’What happened to going to the Great Desert?’
’After I did... all that for you, you still?!’
’You just... left?’
’Left?’
"SCUM!!!"
Chu Susu screamed hysterically at the sky.
...
「A short time earlier.」
After Chu Susu entered the village to find horses.
Ruchen was meditating quietly to the side.
Without a word, Zheng Xiu grabbed Ruchen, leaped into the air, and soared over the village, flying west.
Ruchen felt the ground vanish from beneath him and his eyes snapped open in shock. The scenery below him grew smaller and smaller.
"Brother Zheng, what are you doing?!"
Ruchen asked in shock, his mouth filling with wind as they flew.
"I’ll explain later!"
Zheng Xiu carried Ruchen, flying west until they had passed several mountains. After confirming that Chu Susu could no longer see them, he made a sharp turn and headed south.
Noticing the change in direction, Ruchen whined and questioned him nonstop the entire way.
"Brother Zheng, you’re going the wrong way!"
"Wrong direction!"
"This is south!"
"I thought we agreed to go west!"
"Why did you leave Chu Susu behind?"
THROB!
Zheng Xiu’s face was as grim as still water. He didn’t answer Ruchen’s questions.
After speeding for dozens of li, Zheng Xiu felt his eyelids growing heavier and his vision slowly turning black.
After an unknown amount of time, Zheng Xiu landed in a hidden valley.
When he had repeatedly confirmed that there were no Ravens nearby, he finally breathed a sigh of relief.
"Brother Zheng, you need to give me an explanation."
Ruchen asked, his face dark.
Zheng Xiu scooped up some icy river water and splashed it on his face. The bone-chilling water stimulated his skin, clearing his head considerably.
After killing Kui Lang, Zheng Xiu had sensed that his Divine Travel was nearing its limit.
He had held on for an unusually long time, running on nothing but sheer willpower, refusing to let up for even a moment.
When he had crushed Kui Lang with the "Dragon Claw Carving" slash, Zheng Xiu had vaguely felt his own limit approaching.
Zheng Xiu was only able to move freely now because of the extremely small-range Humanoid Ghosts and Demons leaking from Feng Bei, who was trapped in the ancient painting.
Ever since General Town, Zheng Xiu hadn’t rested at all, and his Spirit had reached its limit.
Along the way, Zheng Xiu hadn’t underestimated a single Miracle Master; he unleashed a Big Move the moment he encountered one.
He didn’t dare to be careless. If he were, he might only lose an Incarnation, but he couldn’t imagine what would happen to Feng Bei if they fell into Ye Weiyang’s hands.
The more people Ye Weiyang sent to their deaths, the more terrifying Zheng Xiu found the situation.
Zheng Xiu couldn’t understand what reason would drive Ye Weiyang to hunt him down so recklessly and at any cost, just to snatch the painting that held Feng Bei captive.
He felt as if he had been unwittingly dragged into a vortex.
"How much do you know about her?"
Zheng Xiu turned and asked Ruchen.
"Isn’t she just Chu Susu..." Ruchen started, then froze mid-sentence.
The Chu Susu in Ruchen’s memory was a young girl who had lost her parents at a young age and survived by stealing in General Town.
Seeing Ruchen’s silence, Zheng Xiu held up three fingers and said with a smile, "There are three points that I have doubts about."
"First, although Chu Susu explained how she replaced ’Ding Susu,’ why would she, one of the Ten Greats of the Incompleteness Tower, be hiding in that remote little town? She deliberately avoided talking about it. Don’t you find that strange?"
"What I care about is the ’why’."
As he said this, Zheng Xiu glanced at Ruchen unintentionally.
He looked at that bald head.
Mystic Ruchen, the Qixin Town Ghostland, Yunliu Temple, Master Dengdeng, the Playful Monk, Master Dengdeng.
If you looked at these elements separately, they wouldn’t seem special, but for them to converge in one remote little town... Zheng Xiu felt there had to be a connection. And Chu Susu’s reason for impersonating "Ding Susu" and infiltrating the Orphanage, assuming it wasn’t a coincidence, must be related to this so-called ’connection’."
"Second," Zheng Xiu continued, "Chu Susu has repeatedly emphasized that the goal of their Incompleteness Tower is to prevent Mystic Feng Bei from falling into Ye Weiyang’s hands again. She never said that the Incompleteness Tower wants to rescue Mystic Feng Bei from the Ancient Painting."
Ruchen was so shocked by this that he was rendered speechless.
"That’s right. You don’t know the grudges between us and the Incompleteness Tower, so I don’t blame you. But I think that rather than rescuing Mystic Feng Bei, the Incompleteness Tower would be happier to see Mystic Feng Bei trapped in the Ancient Painting forever, or even die in it. All they need to do is make sure this painting doesn’t fall into Ye Weiyang’s hands."
Hearing this, the shock on Ruchen’s face faded, replaced by a thoughtful expression.
"From the very beginning,"
Zheng Xiu sighed softly. "Perhaps from the very beginning, besides me, no one has wanted to see Feng Bei alive."
Ruchen lowered his head, seemingly lost in thought.
Zheng Xiu stood up, faced Ruchen, and met his gaze.
Ruchen looked at Zheng Xiu’s faintly smiling expression, remembered the "three points" he had mentioned, and couldn’t help but ask, "Brother Zheng, you’ve only mentioned two points. What’s the third?"
"The third point?" Zheng Xiu smiled faintly. "I was hoping you would tell me."
"Huh?"
Ruchen’s eyes widened at his words, and he subconsciously touched his own head.
"The third point that I can’t figure out is," Zheng Xiu said, staring into Ruchen’s eyes as if trying to pierce through those clear, clean pupils and see into the depths of his soul.
"Who... are you? No..."
Zheng Xiu shook his head. "Who are you all?"
