Chapter 437: Chapter 311: Sudden Slumber, Oncoming Malice

The carriage arrived at its destination, and Lin Li took a tour of the villa he had his eye on.

The south-facing, three-story villa had plenty of rooms, and the open-air balcony was indeed as large as the projection had shown.

It was the young woman’s first time showing a physical property to a client, so her introduction was a bit halting.

When the young woman had finished listing all the house’s merits, her face showed no joy. Instead, she looked rather dejected.

’That introduction was a complete failure,’ she thought anxiously. ’Is this client going to back out because of my clumsy presentation?’

Her anxiety made her visibly worried.

Lin Li, however, wasn’t bothered by the young woman’s fumbling introduction. What mattered most was that he liked the house; the quality of the sales pitch was irrelevant.

"This house will do. It’s even more satisfying than the projected images," Lin Li said, pleased. He stood on the third-floor balcony, a spacious terrace of several dozen square meters, and gazed at the surroundings.

At Lin Li’s words, the young woman’s worried expression instantly turned to elation.

"Miss Wang, I don’t have much cash on me. Can I pay with Spirit Stones?" Lin Li asked.

"Ah?" The young woman hadn’t expected her client to offer payment in Spirit Stones. She froze for a moment, unable to react.

"If you can’t accept Spirit Stones, that’s fine. I can take some time to exchange them for cash."

"Mr. Lin, we don’t have a strict cash-only policy. Payment in Spirit Stones is also acceptable," the young woman said hastily, afraid of creating an unnecessary complication.

And she was telling the truth. The real estate agency did accept Spirit Stones as direct payment for property, provided, of course, that their quality was guaranteed, they contained sufficient Spiritual Energy, and had never been used.

Upon hearing he could pay with Spirit Stones, Lin Li smiled and nodded. Next, he would follow the young woman back to the agency to sign the purchase agreement and receive the deed. Then, the house would be his.

The two of them exited the villa and boarded the carriage waiting at the entrance.

The driver immediately flicked the reins, steering the carriage back toward the real estate agency.

In her room, Qin Muqing lay on the bed, her unfocused gaze fixed on the ceiling. She seemed to have something on her mind.

BOOM—

A sudden clap of thunder outside the window startled Qin Muqing.

Qin Muqing sat up in bed, slipped on her embroidered shoes, and walked to the window to gaze at the distant sky.

Outside, the already gloomy sky had turned pitch-black.

Brilliant flashes of silvery-white lightning occasionally streaked through the inky clouds, like silver dragons weaving through the sky.

WHOOSH—

RUSTLE RUSTLE RUSTLE...

A fierce wind began to blow, making the trees lining the street tremble and rustle violently.

A refreshing, cool wind blew in continuous gusts, making it seem as if the scorching summer was about to end.

But as the sudden gusts grew more ferocious, the street vendors began to suffer. The violent wind threatened to overturn their stalls.

"It’s going to rain!"

"Hurry and pack up!"

"By the looks of it, this is going to be a heavy one. We need to hurry."

"Oh no, I left laundry out to dry at home!"

"This is no time to be thinking about your laundry! Hurry and pack up the stall before the rain comes and soaks everything. The losses would be huge!"

Amid the clamor of vendors frantically packing their stalls, pedestrians began to sprint down the street, either heading home or seeking the nearest shelter from the rain.

"It’s going to rain," Qin Muqing murmured, her hands on the windowsill, as she watched the crowds scurrying down the street.

BOOM—

Another series of massive thunderclaps echoed, and the distant sky grew even more somber.

The inky clouds spread relentlessly, blanketing a large swath of the city.

The rain hadn’t even begun to fall, but the prelude was already astonishing, as if the very sky was about to collapse.

DRIP. DRIP. DRIP.

A moment later, the long-brewing storm broke. What began as small drops became a torrential downpour in the blink of an eye.

Puddles quickly formed on the street. As time passed, the rain grew even heavier, as if someone were dumping an entire basin of water from the heavens.

Qin Muqing stood at the window, watching as the lucky vendors finished packing up just before the deluge began. Then she pulled her gaze away.

Between the fierce wind and the heavy rain, water would be blown into the room if she didn’t close the window.

Qin Muqing closed the window, sat down at the table, and poured herself a cup of tea from the pot.

’Oh! He went out to buy the house, and he didn’t bring any rain gear,’ she suddenly realized. ’If he can’t find shelter from this sudden downpour, he’ll be soaked to the bone.’

Qin Muqing suddenly thought of Lin Li, and she couldn’t help but feel a surge of anxiety and worry.

Although she wanted to grab an umbrella and go find him, she had only just arrived in Dongwu City. She didn’t know the area, and besides, she had no idea where Lin Li had gone.
