Chapter 1463: Questions
Erend continued observing the dormant mass of black energy within his subconscious. Outside, his physical body’s expression gradually became grim. His brows furrowed slightly as though he was confronting something deeply unsettling.
Velrion glanced at him and immediately understood what was happening. Erend had likely found the part of himself that housed the uncontrollable rage.
The Archmage quietly swallowed.
Even now, he still found it difficult to comprehend what the Black Rage truly represented. Dragonborn were already unimaginably powerful beings even without such a phenomenon. Their normal strength alone had surpassed the limits of what Velrion could properly understand as an Archmage.
If that terrifying power could become uncontrollable and continue growing stronger, then the result would undoubtedly be catastrophic.
He could already imagine a Dragonborn fighting at full power without the Black Rage. They were living disasters capable of changing landscapes and fighting beings that threatened entire worlds.
Now, Erend had told him that there was something even more frightening sleeping within him.
Velrion shuddered slightly.
As an Archmage, his imagination had always been one of his greatest strengths. Many of his own spells had been born from imagination and countless Magical theories. Because of that, even with the little information he possessed, his mind involuntarily created horrifying possibilities.
A Dragonborn consumed by uncontrollable rage destroying an entire continent within minutes. Perhaps even seconds.
He immediately shook his head and pushed those thoughts away before fear could consume him.
Instead, Velrion returned his attention to his work. He carefully arranged the remaining materials around the ritual formation. Several herbs began emitting faint fragrances while the crystal he had brought slowly absorbed the Sky Anchor’s light.
At that moment, the Sky Anchor’s gentle voice echoed inside his mind.
"Velrion, are you afraid?" she asked softly.
"Honestly? Yes. I’m afraid," Velrion admitted without hesitation as he glanced toward Erend. "I can’t even begin to imagine what would happen if his rage were unleashed upon this world."
"You are correct to be afraid," the Sky Anchor replied calmly.
Velrion relaxed slightly after hearing her answer. He was confident Erend could not hear their conversation while meditating.
He turned his gaze toward the crystal monolith.
"Do you know what happened during their battle?" Velrion asked carefully. "When the four Dragonborn disappeared, they must have fought somewhere else against something unimaginably powerful. Do you know anything about it?"
"Yes," the Sky Anchor replied. "I only perceived fragments of the battle through my senses, but it was enough to understand the general events."
Velrion remained silent for several moments.
Part of him wondered whether he truly wanted to know. Was he prepared to learn what kind of battle the four Dragonborn had experienced?
But his scholarly instincts quickly overcame his hesitation. He had to know.
One day, these events would become history. Someone had to preserve the truth for future generations, and that responsibility naturally fell upon him.
"Please tell me what you know," Velrion said seriously.
The white light within the Sky Anchor gently flickered for several seconds before she finally spoke.
"I will tell you everything I could perceive. However, this was a battle between the four Dragonborn and a Cosmic Being. Even my senses could not fully comprehend everything that transpired."
Velrion froze for a moment. A Cosmic Being.
He had assumed they fought some ancient monster or perhaps another servant of the Void Architect. Never had he imagined that their opponent belonged to an entirely different level of existence.
He felt a chill run down his spine.
The Sky Anchor then began recounting what she knew.
The battle had taken place within a dead world consumed long ago by the Cosmic Being herself. There had been no life remaining there. Only endless death energy and devastation stretched across that forgotten realm, which had become the battlefield for beings whose power exceeded mortal understanding.
The Cosmic Being had been bound by an oath that significantly restricted her true power. Even then, she remained overwhelmingly powerful.
To stand against her, all four Dragonborn had been forced to fight together while using their true Dragon forms and every ounce of strength they possessed.
And despite all of that, victory had only barely been possible.
"Barely possible?" Velrion blurted out in disbelief.
Even after all four Dragonborn had given everything they possessed, victory had only barely been achieved. Just how powerful were beings that existed on such a level?
Fear and awe slowly filled the Archmage’s face. He unconsciously swallowed as his imagination began constructing the unimaginable scale of power that a Cosmic Being possessed.
For someone like Velrion, whose greatest strength had always been his intellect and imagination, that realization was more terrifying than any monster he had ever studied.
The four Dragonborn had already surpassed the understanding of nearly everyone in Leonora. Yet even they had nearly died fighting a Cosmic Being whose power had been significantly restricted by an oath.
If that restriction had not existed, what kind of battle would have taken place?
Would there even have been a battle at all?
Velrion found himself frozen in place as countless horrifying possibilities emerged inside his mind.
Sensing his emotions through their connection, the Sky Anchor stopped speaking. She quietly allowed him time to process everything he had just learned.
Several moments passed before Velrion finally snapped out of his thoughts. He let out a long sigh and asked the question that had suddenly become the most important thing in his mind.
"Is there any possibility that beings like that will attack this world someday?"
"It is highly unlikely," the Sky Anchor replied calmly. "For Cosmic Beings, a world like this is rarely worth their attention."
Velrion felt some of the tension leave his body upon hearing her answer.
Even so, he could not completely relax. Unlikely did not mean impossible.
He silently reminded himself that Leonora had already experienced enough unimaginable events in days. The impossible had a habit of becoming reality.
Deciding not to dwell on that terrifying possibility any longer, Velrion returned his attention to the ritual preparations.
Suddenly, black mist began leaking from Erend’s body.
Velrion immediately jumped back in fright. His eyes widened as the dark energy slowly rose from Erend’s skin and gathered around him like smoke.
"The Black Rage!" Velrion exclaimed instinctively.
