Chapter 1462: The Black Lump

The place Velrion had in mind was the underground chamber beneath the royal palace. There was no place more private than this in all of Leonora. The chamber had been declared strictly forbidden to everyone except the King, Archmage Velrion, and those granted their explicit permission. It served as the sanctuary of the fully restored Sky Anchor, making its protection one of the kingdom’s highest priorities.

After passing through multiple layers of security, Erend and Velrion finally entered the chamber. Every guard they passed looked exhausted. Dark circles lingered beneath their eyes, and fatigue showed clearly on their faces after the recent invasion. Even so, none of them relaxed their vigilance. They stood at attention, faithfully guarding the Sky Anchor despite everything they had endured.

Erend instinctively looked upward.

The restored Sky Anchor stood at the center of the chamber in its complete form. It no longer appeared fragmented or unstable. Instead, it resembled a flawless crystal monolith nearly five meters tall. Its shape resembled an ancient obelisk carved from pure white crystal, and gentle streams of luminous energy flowed quietly beneath its smooth surface.

The moment Erend stepped closer, a profound sense of peace washed over him.

Unlike before, when its energy had felt fractured and unstable, the Sky Anchor now radiated calmness. Gentle waves of pure Magic spread throughout the chamber like warm sunlight, quietly soothing both body and mind. The lingering exhaustion inside Erend faded slightly, while the restless emotions within his heart became noticeably quieter.

Velrion noticed him observing the monolith.

"We’ll borrow a small portion of the Sky Anchor’s energy. With its assistance, this will be the safest place to conduct your meditation." He looked toward the crystal. "If you don’t mind, Sky Anchor."

"Of course not." The gentle feminine voice echoed directly inside both of their minds.

Erend smiled. Her voice no longer carried the strain and weakness he had heard before. It sounded vibrant, gentle, and full of life.

"This Dragonborn helped save all of us," the Sky Anchor continued warmly. "I would never refuse."

Although Erend could not see her face, he somehow felt certain she was smiling.

He smiled back at the crystal monolith. "Thank you. I’m happy to see you’ve recovered."

"And I owe that recovery to you."

Erend simply nodded.

Meanwhile, Velrion knelt on the floor and began unpacking everything he had gathered earlier. He carefully arranged several herbs around the room before placing the powdered minerals into small circular patterns. Next came the crystal, which he positioned directly in front of where Erend would sit.

When everything was ready, Velrion pointed toward the center of the formation.

"Please sit here."

Erend immediately sat down with his legs crossed. Meditation was already familiar to him, so assuming the proper posture came naturally.

"What should I do now?" he asked.

Velrion looked at him.

"You already know how to meditate?"

"I do."

"Good. Then meditate as you normally would. Once your mind becomes calm, reach toward the feeling of rage inside your consciousness." He paused briefly. "But don’t engage with it. Simply observe it."

Erend remained silent for several moments. Could he really do that?

The Black Rage had always dragged him into itself the moment he touched it. But this was different. He wasn’t fighting anyone, and there was nothing threatening the people he wanted to protect. Perhaps the Rage would remain dormant.

"I’ll try," Erend finally said. "But if something goes wrong... you’ll have to stop me."

Velrion nodded. "I will."

"I’ll help as well," the Sky Anchor added gently. "You don’t need to worry. You’ll be safe."

Erend looked toward the crystal.

He wasn’t entirely certain whether even the Sky Anchor could suppress the Black Rage if it fully manifested. But keeping it under control while it remained dormant should be possible.

He nodded gratefully. "Thank you. I think I’ll need every bit of help I can get."

Soft white light spread outward from the Sky Anchor, gradually filling the entire chamber.

A gentle warmth accompanied the light. It drifted across Erend’s skin like a calm breeze, easing the tension throughout his body while filling the room with quiet serenity.

"Let’s begin," Velrion said softly.

Erend slowly closed his eyes.

His breathing gradually slowed as he released every distracting thought from his mind. The sounds around him faded into silence until only the rhythm of his own breathing remained. Little by little, his awareness turned inward. His thoughts settled like still water until he reached a state of complete mindfulness.

Only then did he begin searching.

He directed his consciousness toward the one thing he wanted to find within his subconscious. The Black Rage.

His awareness wandered through the depths of his own mind, searching patiently until he finally found it. Unlike before, it remained strangely quiet.

Without battle or danger to awaken it, the Black Rage rested silently in the darkness of his subconscious. It appeared as a dense mass of black energy, motionless yet somehow alive. The darkness slowly pulsed as though it possessed its own heartbeat, and faint wisps of black mist drifted from its surface before dissolving into the surrounding emptiness.

"So... this is you," Erend whispered.

Carefully, he moved his consciousness closer.

As the distance between them shortened, he immediately felt the oppressive presence radiating from the black mass. Endless malice seeped from it like invisible smoke, carrying an instinctive desire to destroy everything standing before it.

Erend immediately stopped. He remembered Velrion’s warning to not engage and just observe.

So he remained where he was, silently watching the dormant Black Rage from a safe distance while resisting the urge to probe any deeper.

It was not something easy to do. because the Black Rage now starts pulling at him to get closer. It was telling Erend that it was a part of him, this was the real him that he needed to embrace.

But Erend remembered what he had done to Eccar, Aesa, and Sylven. He didn’t want that to happen to his mother, sister, and everything else he loved.

He have to resist it.
