Chapter 1457: Significant Losses
The Void Dimension had become unstable. Even right not the endless darkness that had always appeared eternal could no longer maintain its form.
Huge fractures spread through the void, exposing torrents of chaotic energy. The darkness repeatedly collapsed into itself before violently expanding again.
The domain groaned. Within the center of that collapsing dimension floated the Void Architect’s true body.
The enormous crimson mist that had once dominated the void dimension had shrunk dramatically. It no longer possessed the overwhelming presence. Instead, the swirling mass rotated at an erratic pace, accelerating and slowing without any rhythm.
Its movements had become completely chaotic. Large portions of the crimson mist repeatedly broke away from the main body, dissolving into countless scattered particles, then pulled back together moments later.
The fragments merged into a coherent form for only a short time before unraveling once again, and again.
The endless cycle continued for so long until, through sheer force of will, the Void Architect finally managed to stabilize the disintegrating remains of his soul.
The swirling mist gradually slowed.
Deep within his consciousness, the Void Architect reflected upon his failure.
"I underestimated them."
That realization filled him with fury.
Everything had happened exactly as he had planned until the Dragonborn came. Then his gambit, king Garrie had accepted the oath and every variable had pointed toward the king’s inevitable defeat.
Yet somehow the human had refused to fall.
Instead, king Garrie had pushed beyond every limitation and destroyed a large portion of the Void Architect’s manifested soul. Even now, the damage remained catastrophic.
He could still feel pieces of his existence missing.
Entire sections of his consciousness had simply vanished forever, erased by the king’s final attack.
Recovering from such an injury would not take centuries. It would take millennia. Perhaps even longer.
His hatred toward King Garrie deepened.
"A mere mortal... A creature that should have broken long before reaching that point... How?"
The answer disgusted him. Is it hope?
The human had continued fighting simply because he believed someone had to.
The Void Architect despised that answer more than anything. His thoughts then shifted toward another source of irritation: Nyssara.
His crimson mist churned violently.
"That worthless creature!"
He had expected the cosmic being to crush the Dragonborn effortlessly. Even if she descended with only an avatar, someone of her status should have overwhelmed four newly awakened Dragonborn without difficulty.
Instead... She had lost.
Not only had she failed to eliminate them, but she had also violated her own oath, crippled her own soul, and allowed one of those Dragonborn to survive. The Void Architect knew that much with his connection to her.
"Pathetic."
His hatred toward her grew with every passing moment. She had boasted endlessly about the superiority of cosmic beings over lesser lifeforms. But in the end, she had accomplished nothing except destroying herself and ruining his plan!
Now both of them had suffered devastating losses because of a world that should have fallen with ease.
His gamble had failed completely. The Dragonborn had survived.
His Creation had awakened and rejected him with her own power.
The Void Dimension, his home, had become unstable. Everything had gone wrong.
He had lost, not just lost a battle, but an entire campaign.
His crimson mist slowly settled once more.
"Very well. The next time..."
—
Far beyond the Void Dimension, within a domain that existed among the stars themselves, another cosmic being suffered the consequences of defeat.
Nyssara’s domain had fallen into complete disorder.
The endless celestial sea surrounding her moved and churned unnaturally, countless black stars flickered without rhythm, entire constellations dimmed before reigniting moments later as violent surges of unstable cosmic energy rippled throughout the domain.
At its center rested Nyssara’s true body. Her colossal serpentine form had shrunk dramatically.
The huge cosmic serpent that once stretched across vast portions of her domain no longer possessed the overwhelming grandeur worthy of a cosmic being.
Her scales had become dull, and the countless black stars embedded inside her body blinked irregularly with unstable light as if they were also struggling to remain alive.
Then another agonizing scream echoed throughout the domain. The sound shook entire clusters of stars. Nyssara writhed violently as unbearable pain tore through every fragment of her soul.
The wounds inflicted by the Dragonborn had not belonged to the avatar alone. They had reached her real body.
A significant portion of her soul had been destroyed, leaving permanent scars on her existence. At the same time, the backlash from violating the oath she had personally established continued ravaging her without mercy.
Each pulse of pain felt like a reminder of her own arrogance. She had believed herself untouchable and the avatar would be enough.
Instead, she had reduced herself from one of the strongest cosmic beings into a severely weakened existence that would require an unimaginable amount of time to recover.
Hatred consumed her thoughts toward the Dragonborn, especially Erend.
She remembered the black lightning, then her fear. And she remembered being helpless beneath his claws.
Those memories ignited a rage unlike anything she had ever experienced.
"Dragonborn... One day... I will erase every last one of you."
No matter how long it took, how millennia passed. She would have her revenge.
—
Erend slowly opened his eyes.
For several moments, his mind remained clouded by exhaustion as he stared blankly at the unfamiliar ceiling above him. Everything around him felt strangely quiet, and he could not immediately remember where he was or why his entire body ached so much.
Then the memories gradually returned. He had crossed into another world. And together with the other Dragonborn, had saved it.
Only then did Erend realize that he was lying on a bed inside the infirmary of Leonora’s royal palace. The room was peaceful, illuminated by gentle morning light filtering through tall windows, a faint scent of medicinal herbs lingered in the air.
He allowed himself to simply breathe because there was nothing much he could do for now. except of course, remembering his failure to control the Black Rage again and almost hurt his Dragonborn friends badly.
