Chapter 1456: Pure Magic

Erend opened his jaws once more then a pillar of black lightning erupted from his mouth with a deafening roar, consuming the distance between them in an instant before crashing directly into Nyssara’s broken body.

BOOM!

The impact engulfed the cosmic being completely.

"AAAAAAHHHHHHH!!" Nyssara’s scream tore across the dead world. The cry shook the air and violent ripples spread through the sky and earth.

It was no longer the scream of an arrogant cosmic being, but the desperate cry of someone experiencing unbearable agony. Every trace of pride vanished beneath the overwhelming pain as the black lightning devoured what remained of her mortal vessel.

Cracks rapidly spread across her giant body.

The fractures widened until brilliant streams of dark cosmic energy burst from within her like rivers. The power and soul that had once sustained her avatar leaked uncontrollably into the atmosphere, dispersing into countless streams of shimmering black mist that drifted across the battlefield.

"No... no..." Nyssara reached toward the escaping energy with trembling hands. She tried to gather it back. But nothing obeyed her anymore. The more she struggled, the faster her body crumbled apart.

Her skin dissolved into glowing fragments. Her flesh disintegrated into countless particles of light and the remaining pieces of her soul shattered alongside her vessel.

Then, without understanding why, Erend felt something awaken deep within his instincts. The feeling came naturally.

Without thinking, he inhaled. The countless streams of scattered cosmic power immediately changed direction.

Instead of drifting aimlessly through the dead world, they rushed toward Erend from every direction before pouring into his body. The black mist entered through his mouth, his nostrils, and even through the countless wounds covering his Dragon body.

Erend felt an indescribable warmth spreading through his body. His exhausted muscles recovered slightly.

He had never intended to absorb Nyssara’s power. He had not even known such a thing was possible. But his instinct insisted that this was exactly what he was supposed to do.

Within moments, the last fragment of scattered cosmic power disappeared into him.

Nyssara’s body finally dissolved completely. Not even ashes remained.

Erend remained standing there for a long time without moving. His eyes wandered across the endless destruction surrounding him while his thoughts replayed everything that had happened.

He had fought a true cosmic being. Even with the combined strength of all four Dragonborn, victory had barely been possible. And that victory had come against nothing more than one of Nyssara’s avatars.

Her true body had never entered the battle. Her real power had never descended into this world. The realization settled heavily inside Erend’s heart.

If a weakened avatar had nearly destroyed them all, then the true Nyssara would have been unimaginably more terrifying. The world had survived only by the narrowest margin. They had almost failed.

Erend slowly lowered his head, he could not deny another painful truth that the Black Rage had played a decisive role in their victory. Without that overwhelming strength, he doubted they would have been able to push Nyssara into defeat.

But the price had almost been unbearable. He had nearly killed Eccar, Aesa, and Sylven. He had almost become the very monster he fought to destroy.

The victory left a bitter taste in his mouth.

Eventually, Erend spread his damaged wings before flying toward Eccar’s location.

As he approached, he saw that Eccar, Aesa, and Sylven had already returned to their human forms.

Eccar lay on the ground while Aesa and Sylven remained beside him, helping stabilize his injuries.

Erend landed several meters away.

The moment his feet touched the ground, his Dragon body dissolved into countless particles of light before returning to his human form. His torn clothing reappeared around his body, countless wounds still covered his skin.

He quietly walked toward Eccar. His step felt heavier than the last. The guilt inside his heart refused to lessen.

When he finally reached them, Erend slowly lowered himself to the ground beside his friend.

For several seconds, he could not find the courage to speak. Finally, he lowered his head. "I’m... so sorry."

Those were the only words he could bring himself to say.

Eccar looked at him before offering a weak smile despite the pain written across his face. "Don’t be," he replied quietly. "This isn’t your fault."

Erend shook his head. "Even if you say that... I still let the Black Rage take over my mind. I lost control. I almost destroyed everything we were trying to protect."

Eccar let out a slow breath and said, "But you came back. That’s what matters. Our enemy has been defeated. We accomplished what we came here to do."

"He’s right, Erend. There’s no reason to keep dwelling on what has already happened. "Instead... we should be grateful that this battle has finally ended." Sylven nodded in agreement. His youthful face contrasted strangely with the calm wisdom carried by his voice. Even after spending so much time with him, the others still found it slightly surreal hearing such profound words come from someone who looked like a young boy. But by now, they had grown accustomed to it.

"Let’s leave this place already," Eccar said. "Staying in this dead world any longer isn’t good for us. All this death energy... it’s making my injuries feel even worse."

He glanced around at the endless wasteland.

Erend nodded. Without another word, he raised one hand and a portal opened, revealing the familiar streets of Leonora on the other side.

One after another, the four Dragonborn stepped through the portal.

The gateway closed behind them. The dead world disappeared from sight.

The four Dragonborn emerged once again beneath the skies of Leonora. The kingdom still bore the scars of the invasion. But despite the devastation something had completely changed.

The oppressive atmosphere that had blanketed the kingdom had vanished, a gentle current of pure Magic flowed throughout the city like a calm breeze. It embraced everyone who stood beneath it.

The energy carried warmth and peace. Their breathing felt easier.

The lingering corruption that had once poisoned the air had completely disappeared, replaced by an indescribable sense of serenity.

Sylven slowly looked around in amazement. "Has the Void Architect already been defeated?"

Erend, Eccar, and Aesa exchanged quiet glances.

Eccar smiled faintly and said, "I think that’s the only explanation." Then, he slowly flexed his injured hand. "I think my wounds are healing faster as well."

The others immediately focused on their own bodies. They all felt it as well. The pure Magic surrounding Leonora continuously flowed into them, soothing their bodies while accelerating the recovery of injuries sustained during the battle.

Erend looked toward the distant Archmage Tower. "Then it means that the Creation has finally become whole again."

"It seems we really did it." Aesa said, and smiled.

Together, the four Dragonborn walked through the recovering streets toward the royal palace.
