As soon as we stepped inside the Gate, dry sand crunched and scattered beneath our feet.
“Hot.”
Korea happened to be in summer too, so the temperature outside had been pretty high, but the inside of the Dungeon was hot in a different way.
“It’s burning....”
“Yeah.”
The dry air, without a trace of moisture, felt like it was choking off my breath. Not sunlight, but something huge was heating my body, including the ground beneath me.
Without hesitation, I shot ice up toward the sky.
Paah—!
The ice that spread through the sky instantly shattered into small pieces and fell like snow. Then, meeting the scorching temperature, it touched our bodies like rain, only to evaporate before it could wet our feet.
“When else would we get to experience a desert?”
Right. There were sights you could never see unless it was a Dungeon.
At my words, Do Yehyun stared at me, then came a little closer.
“Have you ever wanted to come to a desert?”
“No? I hate hot places.”
I kept shooting a moderate amount of ice toward the sky and looked around.
Just then, something wriggling on the ground instantly climbed up my foot.
Sand Scorpion (D)
Has a weak anesthetic venom.
Not enough to cause death, but caution is advised.
I lightly kicked the thing off and stepped on it. Its form scattered in an instant and vanished into the sand.
“.......”
“Do you think they’re already hurt?”
As long as they weren’t dead, who cared?
Instead of answering Do Yehyun, I opened the Status Window.
“Let’s walk.”
Maybe because the glaring light was so hot, even with snow scattering down, sweat ran down my forehead. On top of that, the sand lizards and scorpions getting kicked up every few steps were annoying, so the search went slower than I expected.
Still, well... it wasn’t that slow.

At least they’re both in one place.
Han Uigeon and Choi Yujun were buried under a sand dune, passed out.
“Asleep?”
“I think they fainted. Because of the scorpion venom from earlier.”
Maybe they had been scared after all, because tear tracks were stuck filthily to their cheeks. I had no desire to know the condition of their lower bodies, which were half buried in sand, so instead of clearing the sand away, I went straight over and shook their shoulders.
'They’re not waking up.'
After I slapped their cheeks a few times, their eyes opened.
“Urgh, ugh....”
“Come on, get up.”
“Ugh....”
Their mouths were stiff, as if the paralysis had not fully worn off yet.
'Obviously, they can’t talk.'
I gave up trying to speak to them any further and was debating whether to move them somewhere else or leave them here and go take down the Dungeon Boss.
At that moment, a huge sand spike shot up right beside Han Uigeon’s face.
Kwaak—!!
Reflexively, I grabbed the collars of the bastards lying on the dune, one in each hand, dragged them out of the sand, and threw them to the ground.
“Mmmb!”
“Kgh....”
Even with their paralyzed bodies, the bastards wriggled backward, trying to survive. I put them behind me and stared at the way the sand ahead was moving.
Shaaaaa—
Sand collapsed through the pierced hole, and the huge dune crumbled down into the ground. But it did not stop there. Soon, the sand that rose up turned into something like a small tornado. That, too, only lasted for a very short time before it began taking on a fixed shape again.
Thud, thud. Sand dropped to the ground. Once the unnecessary sand was blown away by the wind and disappeared, the shape of an enormous monster was revealed beneath it.
Sand Monster (C)
A huge monster trapped inside a storm.
Can irregularly change its form.
The thing looked as if it had been modeled after a giant scorpion. It stood still as though observing us, then transformed the pincers on both forelegs into human fists.
'What the hell, is this thing smart or stupid?'
The thing quickly formed fists and instantly swung one at us.
Shwaek!
Mimic (S) activates.
Kwaang—!!! Thud, thud....
I reached my hand toward the fist and instantly raised an ice wall. Just as the thing’s fist approached, the sand fist crashed into the ice wall that had formed to block its path, then scattered to the ground in an instant. The ice wall also shattered into fragments and rolled across the sand.
“Ugh....”
Because of the rough movement, the sand on the ground soon turned into a gust, blurring my sight.
“Yehyun, stay back.”
Do Yehyun had already moved back so he would not enter the combat radius, but the monster’s movements were bigger than I expected, so he would have to retreat even farther than I had originally thought. I glanced at the bastards still collapsed on the ground and gave an order.
“Take those assholes with you too.”
“Yes.”
After confirming that Do Yehyun had taken the bastards half-buried in the ground out of the combat radius, I instantly collapsed the ice wall I had raised.
Kurururu—
Once the ice wall collapsed, the body of the thing that had been enlarging itself to push against the wall lurched forward. I shifted the direction of the ice and cut through its legs as if sweeping them away. Then the thing instantly replenished the sand from the ground and rebuilt its legs.
I watched that sight and raised the corner of my mouth.
'This’ll be easy.'
Too bad for the monster, but for someone who could control ice, this was a pretty welcome situation.
First, to restrict the path of the thing moving so violently, I raised ice walls on all sides like a cage. The thing slammed its body into a wall and instantly moved elsewhere. I leisurely watched it scuttle around, and the moment it tried to break through the wall, I began freezing its entire body.
Shuuuuuk—
The ice stretched up from its feet and soon covered the thing with a savage cracking sound. So it could no longer collapse its form.
—Kirik, kkik.
Maybe it sensed its body freezing, because the thing twisted this way and that to shake off the ice.
“Where do you think you’re going?”
I ignored it and fired ice first at the thing’s frozen legs and tail.
Puck! Sharply honed ice instantly severed its legs and tail, sending them to the ground.
After seeing its own body fly off, the thing hurriedly dragged over nearby sand and tried to rebuild its form. But it could not stop its entire body from already freezing over.
With its legs cut off, the thing urgently used the sand of its own body to restore them.
'Pointless.'
Every time the thing made a leg, I froze that part and cut it off.
Puck, kwadeudeuk!
—Kieeek!
In the end, the thing realized that maintaining the shape of a scorpion was horribly inefficient and quickly adjusted its form. After dropping its legs entirely, it began wriggling and stretching its body longer and longer. So it could crawl even without legs.
'A snake? Smart bastard.'
The thing, which had curled up as if it intended to hide in the sand, shot out in an instant and pierced through the ice wall.
Kwaang!
The blunt snake shape broke through the wall and came right up to my face. I did not retreat. I honed the ice sharply and cut the monster’s neck at an angle.
Shwaek—!
There were only two useless bastards behind me, so I could not drag this out any longer. Before the severed neck could turn back into a head, I reached out and began freezing that section first, one part after another.
Crack, crack. As its body gradually froze, the headless monster’s movements stopped dead.
Ice shards and sand mixed together and fell to the ground. I kicked away the sand curling around my feet, then readjusted the mana inside my body.
“Haa....”
The unpleasant mana that had felt as if it were not mine assimilated faster the more energy my body used and the more violently its wavelength surged. As if it had always been mine.
It felt as though the magical beast’s mana and my original mana were mixing into one without distinction, growing murky. No, was there even any point in distinguishing them? From the beginning, this magical beast’s mana was overwhelmingly stronger than the mana my body possessed.
But now, I no longer thought of it as dragging out someone else’s power.
The mana extended instantly according to my will, turned into the form of ice, and froze the sand in front of me. With a chilling slice, the Sand Monster’s frozen body began to be cut into pieces.
As if delighted by the reflection of my will...... the mana inside my body trembled in a shiver.
I twisted up the corner of my mouth and accelerated the speed at which I created ice.
Kwagwagwagwagwa— crack, kwaang!
When mana left my body, a chill spread through it. But if I adjusted it just enough to feel comfortable...... even after creating this much ice, I was not cold at all. Rather, a strange excitement heated my body.
The Sand Scorpion twisted its body to avoid the spreading ice, but in the end, only its tail remained, stopped dead in midair.
'It’s over.'
I turned around without hesitation.
“Brother!”
Then Do Yehyun’s urgent voice rang out.
I reflexively looked back and saw a huge snake with its mouth gaping wide, right in front of my nose.
Instead of forcing ice into shape to cut it apart, I stepped back about two paces.
—Kieeeek!
As expected, the Sand Monster had merely transformed its tail into a head. It could not come any closer, and soon lost its form completely, collapsing to the ground.
Shaaaaak....
(Dead) Sand Monster (C)
A huge monster trapped inside a storm.
Can irregularly change its form.
I stared blankly at the Status Window, then turned my head back toward Do Yehyun.
“What, Yehyun?”
Instead of answering, Do Yehyun strode toward me, then broke into a quick little run. I snickered and stopped him.
“Were you a little worried? Or were you hoping I’d get hurt?”
“Neither.”
“Really? You sounded really serious just now. Did you have something to say?”
“I called because I was trying to tell you.”
Funny.
I brushed off my hands and faced Do Yehyun.
“Now let’s pick them up and leave.”
“Pick what up?”
“The reward and those bastards lying over there.”
“Should I try healing them?”
“Try it once. They regained consciousness, and the boss is dead, so it’ll probably work.”
“Yes.”
I watched Do Yehyun walk back toward them for a moment, then picked up the fist-sized mana stone buried in the sand.
'I’ll need to appraise and process this.'
And I had somewhere to visit for the first time in a very long while under that excuse.
I pocketed the mana stone and soon walked over to Do Yehyun.
“Are the brats conscious?”
“Yes.”
“Yeah? Then let’s go.”
Maybe they had regained their nerve after being healed, because the bastards were on their knees on the ground, panting. Han Uigeon, who had been coughing for a long while as if he had eaten sand, barely lifted his head.
“You, you threw me around like that.... Fuck, when we get out, you’re all dead!”
“.......”
Impressive intelligence.
'Even if he was going to throw a fit outside, inside a Dungeon where there’s desert in every direction?'
There was nothing to trust here and nowhere to lean on, yet his spirit was truly incredible. Han Uigeon even glared at me and screamed.
“If, if I was in danger, you should’ve thought about saving me...! Fuck! I-I almost died!”
'What is he talking about? Did I almost kill him?'
For bastards who had gotten drunk, wandered around, and been stranded in a Dungeon, they sure had a lot to say. When I just stared at him without responding to his bullshit, Han Uigeon shamelessly raised a trembling hand.
“Help me up first.”
“Fascinating.... I’ve never really been treated like an easy mark anywhere, so why have people been picking fights with me so often lately? Is there something in my fortune this year?”
At this point, I was starting to suspect I had some hidden talent for gathering people who wanted to start shit. Instead of taking Han Uigeon’s hand and helping him up, I kicked him straight in the abdomen.
Ppeok!
“Keheup...!”
Han Uigeon instantly rolled across the ground and could not say another unpleasant word. I stepped past him and grabbed the back of Choi Yujun’s head as he stared this way in shock, then shoved his head into the sand.
“Hmmb!”
When I lifted the bastard’s head from below, where he was flailing, then shoved him back into the sand, he shouted as if wronged.
“Wh-why me! Mmph, kgh....”
“Yujun. From now on, choose your friends better, okay?”
To shift collective responsibility onto both Choi Yujun and Han Uigeon, I fed them sand equally, then brushed off my hands and called Do Yehyun.
“Yehyun, let’s do one more heal.”
