Vincent Webb prided himself on being a man of intelligence and extraordinary foresight. He had come prepared with a foolproof plan; he was determined to have Claire Sinclair.
But her sudden declaration was a harsh slap in the face to his plan.
Whether she was married to Adrian Quincy or Ethan Kingsley, one possessed supreme power while the other controlled Aridia’s economic lifeline. He absolutely could not afford to offend either of them.
Seeing his silence, a sly smile played on Claire Sinclair’s lips. "Director Webb, I’ve said my piece. If you insist on sponsoring me, I’ll call my husband over the moment I walk out of here and let him have a talk with you. How does that sound?"
Vincent Webb suddenly broke into a strange smile, his body trembling slightly with silent laughter. "Miss Sinclair, I’m finding that I like you more and more. You’re a national treasure of Aridia."
Claire Sinclair smiled politely. "You flatter me, Director Webb. I have other matters to attend to, so if you’ll excuse me."
With that, she turned and walked out without a backward glance. This time, no one dared to stop her.
His assistant immediately asked, "Director, do you believe her?"
Vincent Webb sneered. "We’ll find out if she’s telling the truth with a little test. Send a few men..."
He whispered the rest of his instructions into his assistant’s ear.

After leaving the exhibition hall, Claire Sinclair felt a little uneasy. ’I have a bad feeling that lecherous old man won’t let me go so easily.’
’Besides, that old fox probably didn’t believe a word I said. He’ll definitely send someone to test me.’
’Given the circumstances, I can’t reveal my true identity yet. If Morinka finds out I’m married to Adrian Quincy, she’ll definitely go to Ethan Kingsley.’
’Teacher Hartwell’s mission for me is to stop Morinka from forming a marriage alliance with either of Aridia’s two top candidates. I can’t afford to fail.’
At this thought, Claire Sinclair took a deep breath, her eyes scanning the area.
Finally, she spotted Ethan Kingsley in another section, chatting cheerfully with a few friends.
Claire Sinclair walked over, and soon stood before Ethan Kingsley. She interrupted politely, "Excuse me, Mr. Kingsley. I’d like to have a word with you."
Ethan Kingsley’s brows furrowed slightly. He turned to say something to his friends before leading Claire Sinclair to a quieter spot.
Claire Sinclair immediately put on a helpless and desperate expression. "Mr. Kingsley," she pleaded, "just now, Vincent Webb gave me his business card and a black card. He said he wants to sponsor me, and that if I don’t agree, he’ll make things ugly for me. What should I do?"
Ethan Kingsley asked with an amused smile, "Why don’t you ask your boyfriend for help?"
Claire Sinclair bit her lip and said softly, "Mr. Kingsley, Mr. Quincy and I are just friends. He’s not my boyfriend. Besides, he’s entertaining Princess Morinka right now, so I can’t even see him."
"Are you telling the truth?" Ethan Kingsley asked, testing her.
’In truth, he already knew the answer. It was obvious this woman was lying to him. After all, he was the one who had personally arranged for her to be in Adrian Quincy’s bed. How could they possibly be just friends?’
Claire Sinclair hesitated for a moment, then leaned in and whispered in his ear, "Actually, we dated for a while, but we broke up because we weren’t compatible. He’s too cold, and I found being with him completely exhausting."
Ethan Kingsley gazed quietly into her lovely, vulnerable eyes, trying to find a single flaw in her story. But her performance was so natural, he couldn’t tell at all that she was lying.
