Chapter 204: Clairvoyance
Rose was like a ray of sunshine in their family, lifting the gloom off the hearts of everyone in the house that had settled in 3 months ago.
Raiden was pretty happy to see it. He was only sad because Aunt Ruby died, but now that he confirmed that she wasn’t dead. He became happy again. Now it was only a matter of time before she gained her full powers and her memories back.
He left her in the care of the other three people in the house, who seemed to like her very much.
After solving these problems, Raiden finally turned his attention to the other things he had been neglecting.
"Hey system, you evolved to version 3.0, right? What else is new with you??"
{I thought you would never ask. Host. The system has evolved beyond your capable imagination!!}
"Oh?? Tell me about it." Raiden asked curiously.
{The Limitless Evolution System 3.0,
Starting with the basic functions, the system can now appraise the status of someone just by looking at them.}
{Other than that, there is now a built-in audio player which you can use to play BGM for battles.}
Raiden waited for a long time to hear about the other amazing functions of the system, but got nothing in return.
"Is that it??" He asked in confusion.
{Well, there are also the basic functions like increasing your bulk upgrade limit to 20 people at once, 15 upgrades per Terra Beast at Bronze Level and 7 upgrades per Terra Beast at Silver Level. You can appraise targets up to diamond tier now easily, and etc.}
Raiden’s eye twitched as he heard about these basic functions.
"You call these basic functions? This is what I wanted to know about you, dumb fucking system!! Tell me about it in detail!!!"
{I have told you about all the relevant functions already. What more do you want from me? They are not that important, but think about the music when you start to fight. An unknown BGM starts to play in the background!! Your own personal BGM!!! How cool is that??}
"Who wants to own BGM? Do you think I’m some kind of anime protagonist or something? You dumb fu— sigh. Are you sure there is no other function that you are not telling me of, even if there are the basic ones??" Raiden asked in a weary tone. Somehow, every time he talked to the system, he felt very tired.
{These are all the functions, host, I swear. However, there is also this minor power of clairvoyance, which lets you see your future once a month. If you ask me, it’s a very mundane powe—}
"What did you say??!!!" Raiden slammed his both hands on the table, interrupting the babbling system.
"Clairvoyance as if seeing the future?? Are you telling me I can change the future??!! Why didn’t you tell me about something so important beforehand?!!" Raiden exclaimed in frustration.
{It’s just a minor Clairvoyance ability. You can’t even decide what kind of future you want to see. Uncontrollable. It doesn’t hold a candle to playing your own custom BGM. Now that is a cool new power.}
"Enough nonsense. Don’t talk anymore. Just use the new powers. Let me see the future." Raiden interrupted him in mid-talk. He couldn’t wait anymore.
The power to see the future. That sounded like a completely game-changing ability. If he already could see the future, he would have warned the city of the attack last time, or the true horror it contained. Maybe Aunt Ruby wouldn’t have to die then? There were so many what-ifs in his mind, but he couldn’t change them anymore.
All he could do was make sure to take a correct decision in the future.
{Ding!! Understood. Activating the Clairvoyance ability now!!}
Raiden felt a strong suction force erupt inside his body as all his physical and mental power rapidly depleted with hers. He started to feel weakness. He felt so weak that he fell on his back and blacked out for a few seconds.
After this mind-love-sucking experience, Raiden had a throbbing headache as he asked the system. Apparently, this ability took more out of him than he thought.
"What happened?? Did the ability work?? I can’t see the future."
{Of course you can’t. You work just as a battery to activate the system. I am the one who sees the future.}
"Really?? What did you see??" Raiden asked.
{I saw that you didn’t end up losing your virginity until the age of 21.}
"...What??"
{I saw that you didn’t end up losing your virginity until the age of 21.}
"No, I heard you the first time!! What kind of bullshit is this? Is this what you predicted? Again, do it again. Also, there is no way I’m still a virgin by the age of twenty-one! I already have a girlfriend!!!" Raiden’s face turned red as he refuted the Damned System.
{I am just telling you about what I saw, dear host. You can’t blame me. I can only use this ability once a month. It’s going to be on cooldown now.}
"This is what you predicted after using the future sight ability. The ability of Clairvoyance only amounts to this much?? I feel like I have been scammed." Raiden threw his hands up in frustration.
{I told you this is a minor ability and the power of Clairvoyance is unstable and uncontrollable, but you didn’t listen to me and wanted to try it out. Now you are cursed to stay single and a virgin until 21. How do you feel about that???}
"Stop speaking nonsense. I have a girlfriend now, alright? There is no way I will still be single after 4 years." Raiden refuted instinctively.
Raiden really felt like he had been scammed. The more he thought about it, the more this thought grew.
What future sight? This was just a power invented by the system to insult him.
Raiden sat there sulking, arms crossed, glaring at the empty air where the system’s interface used to be, as if his glare alone could somehow punish it for such a useless prophecy.
{Are you done sulking, host? I can feel your negative emotions radiating even without a stat screen for it.}
"Shut up. I’m processing my trauma." Raiden rubbed his temples, still feeling the dull throb from the earlier mental drain. "You couldn’t have seen anything useful? Like, I don’t know, whether Ruby’s memories come back safely? Or whether that egg thing was actually dangerous? Or literally anything that matters?"
{The Clairvoyance ability does not work on command, host. It shows a random flash, not a curated highlight reel of your life’s most important moments. Be grateful it didn’t show you failing a mission and dying horribly. That would have been far more traumatic than a delayed love life.}
"...Okay, fair point." Raiden begrudgingly conceded, though he still felt cheated. "But seriously, virginity until 21? That’s so specific. Why would you even see that?"
{Fate does not care. It’s random. I simply relayed what I saw. Perhaps the future is not fixed, and this is merely one branch of possibility. Perhaps you will prove me wrong, host. Perhaps you won’t.}
"I will definitely prove you wrong!! Just watch me." Raiden pointed dramatically at the ceiling, as if daring to challenge the world. There is no way he would stay a virgin after living two lives.
{Noted. I will remind you of this declaration in exactly four years, host.}
"Don’t you dare."
{Also, for what it is worth, the vision did show one other detail I neglected to mention.}
Raiden’s ears perked up immediately, his earlier annoyance forgotten. "What? Tell me now!"
{You were surrounded by fire when it happened. Lots of fire. And screaming. I assumed it was a metaphor for your love life, but it could also be literal. I cannot be certain.}
"...That is somehow worse than the virginity thing." Raiden’s face paled slightly as his mind raced through a dozen terrifying possibilities.
Fire and screaming. Those weren’t words he wanted associated with his future, romantic or otherwise. What does it even mean? Did he end up joining a cult with Morgana??
{Do not worry too much, host. The vision is unstable and could mean anything. It might just be a bonfire. Or a fire started by your Terra Beasts. Statistically, considering the kind of personalities they have, that last one seems quite plausible.}
"Shut it. I’ll have you know they are the most special Terra Beasts in existence." Raiden refuted instinctively.
{Debatable.}
Before Raiden could fire back another retort, a frantic knocking interrupted their bickering, followed by Sylvia’s urgent voice through the door.
"Big brother, come fast!!! Rose has gone rogue!!! She just drained the blood of every single Terra Beast on the farm. They all are about to die!!!"
Raiden’s expression twisted instantly, all thoughts of fire and virginity curses momentarily forgotten. "Tell her I’m coming!" He shot up from his seat, dusting off his clothes.
{Very peaceful Terra Beasts indeed.}
"Don’t you shut up even for a second. I liked you much better when you kept your mouth shut." Raiden muttered as he made his way to the door, rushing towards damage control.
This life can’t stay peaceful after all.
