Chapter 199: An Faint Hope

Hundreds of thousands of kilometres away from a battlefield, a mountain was situated deep in the wilderness.

It looked perfectly normal at first glance, blending in with the surroundings easily. If anyone passed by it, they wouldn’t find it.

But if someone paid close attention to the mountain, they would find that inside of it was completely hollow!!

That hollow mountain extended downward from within for hundreds of metres, creating a vast underground network where hundreds of people stood guard.

It was divided into hundreds of levels, each one stacked on top of one another, with cryptic runes and Terra Beasts guarding each level 24/7 hours a day, each level got even stronger and harder to break through, with even stronger people standing guard next to it.

In the deepest part of the mountain, thousands of metres below it, was a single cell.

The cell wasn’t too big or small, about 100 m sq in size.

There was no light or sound inside the cell, creating a completely isolated background.

In the middle of the entire cell was a woman, her hands both chained towards the opposite corners of the ceiling, as her body hung limply from it a few meters above the ground.

She hung there limply like a dead person, her long silver hair falling over her thin visage.

If one looked closely at her, they would find thousands of little scars covering her entire body, with thick tubes hooked all over her arms, constantly draining thick red and glittering ashen grey blood from it.

If one observed her for even a longer period of time, they would find her body twitching every once in a while, as she breathed.

It was unknown how long this woman had been here, her wrists, which were already completely scraped of her skin, indicating she had been here for a long, long period of time.

That seemingly dead woman appeared to have felt something as her body stirred after a long period of time.

She lifted her head up with difficulty. Her hair was casting a shadow on her face as she gazed into the distance with clear violet coloured eyes, as if she could see through the mountains.

Those piercing violet-coloured eyes of hers appeared to hold infinite powers, as she gazed into the distance, feeling something stirred within her.

"Oh no... Ruby..." She spoke in a dry, hoarse and raspy voice, opening her mouth after an unknown period of time.

Whatever she sensed seemed to have dealt her a significant blow, as the glow within her eyes started to fade away as her head hung down limply once again.

"You succumbed so early as well..."

A few drops of crystal clear tears fell down her face before drying up instantly due to her dehydrated body.

The woman started to sob silently, feeling the pain deep within her soul.

A few minutes later, as if she had decided something, she lifted her head up with conviction.

"No!! I won’t let it end... Not like this..."

"I Invoke The Law... AAAAARGH!!!" Hundreds and thousands of small spatial blades started exiting from all around the room, cutting deep into her body, painting her entire figure in red, as if punishing her for using the power.

The woman gritted her teeth in pain, blood flowing down her mouth, but she didn’t stop speaking.

"I... Invoke.. The Law of Ashen... Within Me... Break The Chains of Causality... Reverse The... Outcome... Target... The Divine Blood... Empress!!"

Speaking these few sentences seemed to have taken almost everything out of her, as she once again hung limply from the ceiling; the glow in her silver hair had faded even more.

But the effect was immediate, as the entire mountain range seemed to start shaking for hundreds of kilometres, causing everyone guarding outside to fall into panic. It seemed like the entire world was changing, bending, according to her will.

The effects faded away a few seconds later as everything returned to the same peaceful calm as before.

"You need to take care of the children... A little longer. You can’t get out of it that easily... Just wait a little bit more for me... I’ll be back."

She closed her eyes once again, as the entire prison cell once again went silent.

------------------------

It had been a few hours since the battle ended. Most of the humans on the battlefield had already fallen back to the city, tending to their injuries.

This battle was one of the most catastrophic battles the city has ever faced, if not the most catastrophic one.

Tens of thousands of people died. Hundreds of thousands of Terra Beast killed. An uncountable number of people were wounded or permanently disabled, with their partner Terra Beast completely dying off.

The rain of blood had started to slow down as everyone tended to their injuries, moving about on the base or what was left of it.

But inadvertently, once in a while, they paused and glanced at a figure in the distance that had been kneeling there for a few hours with his head down without moving.

They seemed to feel pity as they looked at that figure, shaking their heads from time to time before moving along.

A few metres away from that figure sat two women, as if they were waiting for that figure to move.

The figure of that man just knelt there numbly on the ground, clenching his fists from time to time as he gazed emptily into the distance.

Raiden felt broken on the inside. He had no idea what to do next. All he knew was that he didn’t want to move from this place, this spot. He still desperately clung to a hope. A hope that something would change. A hope that a Mythical Beast was much more powerful than this, and she would come back up, saying, "Surprise!! Fooled you!!"

He just knelt and kept waiting here, watching as the rain of blood stopped, waiting for that divine miracle.

Unable to bear watching him like this for any longer, one of these women moved as she put a hand on his shoulder.

"It’s time to go home, Raiden. Waiting here any longer wouldn’t bring her back."

"NO!!... Not yet. You can leave, but I will be waiting right here." Raiden shook his head with a stubborn expression on his face.

"Woolie!!"

"Sha!!"

Isadora looked at the three stubborn ones before her, not knowing what to say.

She wanted to console him, but knew whatever she would say next would just be ignored. She recognised this mindset all too well. She had been in the same state once.

"Aunt Ruby is still there... I can feel it... You can leave if you want to, I’ll be waiting right here!!"

Isadora opened her mouth once again.

"You—"

Her voice was completely cut off as she looked on at the horizon where ashen grey clouds started to gather on top of their heads.

These clouds started to rotate in place, creating a whirlpool as hundreds of droplets of blood started to float above the ground before getting sucked into that whirlpool.

The Ashen Grey whirlpool grew even bigger as it started to they devoured the surroundings’ energy, the blood, the air, the water, everything.

Under the stunned gazes of everyone present on the battlefield, the cloud stopped spinning before dropping something on top of Raiden’s head, before disappearing.

Raiden caught it instinctively as he glanced at the item in his hand.

It was a crimson egg.
