Chapter 384: Better Than a Cave and a Box of Scraps
A few hours earlier, inside the private forge, Long Ming and Situ Yan was busy in forging treasure.
Despite his crippled state, Long Ming refused to even lift his finger, letting Situ Yan do all the chores.
The old man moved with surprising vigor, sorting through the pile of rare materials he had dumped from his spatial ring. His good hand worked like a vice, while the blackened stump of his left arm occasionally twitched as if remembering its former glory.
Long Ming simply leaned against a pillar, watching with lazy interest.
At first, Situ Yan was skeptical. "You really aren’t going to help? You are letting this old man do all the work?"
"Why should I?" Long Ming shrugged. "This is your craft. I’m just here to watch a master work."
Of course, Long Ming didn’t want to help. ’ Heh, I guess I kinda guess the meaning of the lazy system. Let others do the work, and you enjoy.’ Long Ming chuckled inwardly.
After all, before System Reward, everything pales.
However, Long Ming has to admit. Sometimes it gets incredibly boring. Hahhh, looks like human nature loves conflict after all.
The old man snorted but began refining the materials anyway. However, as he started melting the first batch of Soft Channeling Silver, Long Ming casually spoke up.
"Temperature’s too high on the left side. Lower the earth vein intake by seventeen percent and rotate the flame clockwise every thirty breaths."
Situ Yan paused, frowning. But he followed the advice. To his shock, the silver melted far more evenly, impurities rising to the surface like cream on milk. He tried another material- Thundervein Ore... and Long Ming gave another pointer, then another.
Each time, the refinement became noticeably smoother.
Situ Yan’s hands trembled slightly as he worked. Years of bitter experience, countless nights spent studying ancient tomes, refining his techniques through trial and error... and this young man was casually pointing out flaws he had never noticed. The old blacksmith felt both humiliated and enlightened at the same time.
"Boy... just who the hell are you?" he muttered under his breath while hammering a glowing piece of metal.
Long Ming only smiled lazily and took another sip from his wine gourd.
The forging process continued for hours. Situ Yan worked like a man possessed, sweat pouring down his wrinkled face. Under Long Ming’s occasional guidance, the mechanical arm slowly took shape, layer by layer, rune by rune.
The independent energy core was the most delicate part, requiring precise balancing of multiple conflicting energies. Yet every time a problem arose, Long Ming’s calm voice would cut through, offering a solution that felt both simple and profound.
By the end, even Situ Yan had to admit it.
This wasn’t just a mechanical arm. It was a masterpiece.
Finally, a brilliant blue mechanical arm lay completed on the forging table. Golden rims ran along its joints, and intricate rune inscriptions glowed with soft light across its surface. It looked both elegant and powerful, like a work of art forged for war.
Before attaching it, Long Ming tossed over a small jade bottle.
"Even if we attach the arm, the root problem remains," he explained. "That corrosive venom is still inside you. Take this Greater Origin Energy Pill first. It will help stabilize your foundation and give you the strength to force that venom out."
Situ Yan stared at the pill for a long moment. He could feel the dense, pure energy radiating from it. Without another word, he swallowed it.
The pill melted instantly, releasing a torrent of gentle yet overwhelming medicinal power. Situ Yan sat cross-legged, face twisting in pain as the energy clashed with the corrosive venom that had plagued him for fifty years.
Blackish-red pus began dripping from the stump of his left arm. Each drop sizzled as it hit the stone floor, eating away small holes like acid. The old man gritted his teeth, veins bulging on his forehead. Sweat poured down his body as he circulated every ounce of his remaining true qi to push the invasive energy toward the severed arm.
It was agonizing.
Every meridian that had been corroded screamed in protest. Memories of fifty years of constant pain, humiliation, and declining cultivation flashed through his mind. But this time, there was hope. The Greater Origin Energy Pill acted like a gentle tide, slowly washing away the accumulated toxins while strengthening his damaged foundation.
Hours passed. Situ Yan’s body trembled violently. Black blood kept flowing out, carrying with it years of resentment and suffering. Finally, the last drop fell. The old man opened his eyes, breathing heavily, but his gaze was clearer than it had been in decades.
Situ Yan didn’t waste any time. He picked up a sharp blade and, without hesitation, severed what remained of his cursed arm. Fresh blood, normal red, flowed out this time.
Long Ming helped him attach the mechanical arm. The moment the connection runes activated, Situ Yan’s body shook. He felt it — the arm becoming part of him. Not just metal and runes, but an extension of his will.
He clenched the mechanical fist. Blue light flowed through the golden rims.
"Not bad..." he whispered, swinging the arm experimentally. "It feels... surreal. But it’s mine."
A wide, almost childlike grin spread across the old man’s face as he threw a few test punches, shattering the air with each strike.
Situ Yan cupped his fist deeply toward Long Ming.
"Thank you, Brother Long. This old man owes you a great favor." His voice was solemn. "I belong to the Pure Crystal Tower, one of the greatest treasure refining sects in the entire Myriad Beast World. We have branches across many empires, including this one. Once I restore my cultivation to the Nine Transformations of the Soul Realm, I will definitely repay this debt."
Long Ming waved his hand casually. "No need to be so formal. If you really want to repay me, then stay and work at the Cloud Wing Antique Shop. Having our own production line wouldn’t be bad, right?"
Situ Yan was stunned for a moment, then burst into loud laughter.
"Hahaha! Fine! This old bones will shamelessly leech off you then!"
Long Ming grinned. "Welcome to the team, Old Situ."
But then, Situ Yan looked at above. The roof above them was gone. Since they exponentially increased the power of the array formation, the flame energy helped them in refinement.
Alas, the array formation wasn’t built for such intense usage. Although they managed to manipulate the energy of the earth vein, the pressure weakened the array pillars and every other furnace in the shop other than theirs.
Finally, it exploded as the pent-up flame energy surged to the sky. It was like a fire dragon rising to the sky, destroying everything in its path.
"Never mind, I will pay that fellow." Situ Yan sighed as he looked at his new arm with a fond gaze. His fingers traced the lush metallic surface. " Haah, to think I would finally feel so complicated."
However, Long Ming’s mind worked from a different angle.
’ Damn, now I think... Can’t I make a full armor?’
’ I mean... I have much more resources than a cave and a box of scraps, no?’
