Chapter 383: Refining Arm

Long Ming smiled and started walking. The old man followed behind, still clutching the wine gourd tightly.

Behind them, the crowd whispered even louder than before.

"Who is that young man? He actually calmed down that mad old ghost..."

Long Ming didn’t care about the gossip. He simply walked ahead, hands behind his back, a lazy smile on his face. Another interesting fish had taken the bait.

" So, you are a treasure refiner. Must be quite experienced."

" How did you know I am a treasure refiner? The old man asked in curiosity. Long Ming pointed at him, " Well, robust physique, hands are like vices, intense but chaotic flame energy within the body."

" Then why couldn’t I be a blacksmith? How did you know I know rune inscription as well?"

Long Ming laughed, " Your spiritual qi is strong. Besides, I saw the small runic chain on your crippled arm. I believe you inscribed it to stop the spread of the curse?"

" Who are you?" The old man’s voice deepened, but Long Ming merely stopped.

" Yo-You guys! What are you doing here again!"

Leading the old man in a circle, Long Ming and the old man were standing right before the same shop. The servants barely put up the sign before these two reappeared. The merchant almost had a heart attack, as if he saw ghosts.

" Ahh, please calm down. We just wish to borrow the forge behind your shop." Long Ming explained. But the merchant refused in an instant, " No! Absolutely no! Who do you think y ou guys are?"

" What if you do something there?!"

" Take this. I hope this is enough for payment." The old man checked his sleeves and threw a piece of shiny metal. It was round like an egg, and was in a strange metallic green color. The merchant caught it and checked, his expression changing in an instant.

" Is this...Core of a Rank 4 Ethreal Yao?"

" Complete core, energy intact." The old man spoke, making the merchant sigh.

" I swear if you guys break anything...You will pay for it. Three times of the damage."

" Nothing will happen, trust me." Long Ming smiled as he cupped his fist.

[ 6 Hours later]

The merchant got blasted outside as he turned around, seeing a pillar of flame rupturing through the building.

" YOU BASTARDS!!"

A few hours earlier.

The back of the treasure shop opened into a rather spacious private forge. The air was thick with the scent of molten metal and scorched stone. Several thick array pillars stood around the central furnace, glowing with steady runes that drew up rich earth vein energy from deep underground. This energy was then converted into artificial Earth Fire, roaring fiercely beneath the massive cauldron.

To forge treasure, furnace and fire are two essential items. Usually, low grade blacksmithes uses their own true qi to use fuel the flames. While it’s the textbook method, it creates too much impurity in the forged metal. After all, different types of qi infused means more chances of conflict later.

Next comes Spirit Fires, flames which are natural, wondrous treasures of heaven and earth. Such flames are excellent and best way to refine a metal.

And in the middle is the commercial method. Drawing out pure energy from the world and converting into flames. Less effective than Spirit Flame, but better purity than normal flames.

It wasn’t the best forge Long Ming had seen, but it was decent enough for a mid-tier city shop.

The old man stood in the center, looking around with a critical eye. His disheveled gray hair and ragged clothes made him look like a beggar, but the sharp glint in his eyes showed decades of experience.

"Not half bad," he muttered. "The earth vein connection is stable, and the rune pillars are properly aligned. Still... far from what the bigger sects use."

He turned to Long Ming and cupped his remaining good hand. "This old one is called Situ Yan. Since you brought me here and even offered good wine, I won’t hide my name."

Long Ming leaned against a pillar with his usual lazy smile. "Long Ming. Nice to meet you, Senior Situ."

Situ Yan nodded, then sat down on a stone stool. He stared at the roaring furnace for a moment before speaking in a low voice.

"You asked how I ended up like this..." He raised his blackened, shriveled left arm. "Fifty years ago, I received a 50,000-year-old Crimson Purity Coral as a crafting material. It was supposed to be the main component for a high-grade treasure. But the moment I started refining it, the energy inside went completely berserk. It was like a hidden curse had been planted inside."

He let out a bitter chuckle. "I barely clung to my life. The corrosive flame energy destroyed the entire left side of my body. I managed to seal most of it inside this arm, but... " Situ Yan pointed at his crippled arm, " You can see the result. My cultivation fell all the way to the True Core Formation Realm. Every day, that venom keeps eating away at me."

" It also affects my brain. The sharp pain sometimes makes me mad. As years pass, my condition is turning worse."

Long Ming listened quietly, then activated his Heavenly Revelation Eyes. His gaze pierced through Situ Yan’s body like a blade. After a few moments, he shook his head.

"Your meridians in that arm are long dead. The corrosive energy has fused with your flesh and bone. Unless you find a Rank 7 True Life Healing Pill or some equivalent longevity type treasure, it’s almost impossible to fully restore it."

Situ Yan gave a grim laugh. "You think I don’t know that? Rank 7 pills are rarer than Royal Grade treasures of same level. Right now, I don’t even have the strength to get one."

Long Ming grinned. "There’s another way."

He took out a jade slip and tossed it over. "Take a look."

Situ Yan caught it and poured his spiritual sense inside. The moment he saw the contents, his eyes widened like saucers.

A complete blueprint of a mechanical arm.

At first, he thought it was a joke. A mechanical limb? That would severely limit true qi circulation and create a disconnect with the body. But as he kept reading, his hands started trembling.

"Independent Energy Core... Qi Channeling Soft Metal Veins... Triple Layered Rune Plates... What the hell is this?!" Situ Yan’s voice cracked. "This isn’t some ordinary mechanical arm... this is a masterpiece!"

Long Ming chuckled inwardly. He had bought the full blueprint from the Lazy Cultivation System for 20,000 LP. There was the finished product as well, costing 100,000 LP. The only reason the blueprint was costing less, because there are many materials which are hard to find. And while refining, there is always a great amount of chance of fuck ups.

But who was Long Ming? He comprehended the Heavenly Treasure Refining Tome. He mastered various kind of forging arts. With his Heavenly Revelation Eyes, making mistakes is impossible!
