Chapter 161: Chapter 161: Returning to the tribe
: Returning to the Tribe
But the Rift Beast was a chaotic entity that did not follow the rules of mortal combat.
As Qin Mo’s sword pierced deep into its giant eye, causing the creature to let out a final, thrashing shudder, the beast did not try to pull away. Instead, using the absolute last drop of its dying strength, it lunged its massive head forward.
*Squilch.*
Qin Mo’s eyes went completely wide, his breath catching sharply in his throat.
The long, twisted black horn on the beast’s forehead had pierced through his body. The sharp, jagged tip entered through his lower abdomen, tearing through his muscles and his spiritual pathways, before exiting cleanly out of his lower back.
A sharp, blinding agony exploded through Qin Mo’s entire nervous system, a wave of cold, chaotic energy flooding directly into his core, instantly turning his spiritual meridians to ice.
*Gasp.*
He let out a single, heavy puff of air, a spray of bright red blood escaping his lips, floating into the void like a cloud of tiny rubies. His silver sword slipped from his fingers, drifting away into the darkness as his grip failed completely.
The Rift Beast let out a final, dying shudder, its giant eye turning into a dark, empty socket as the white sword energy destroyed its internal core from the inside. The massive, chaotic body began to dissolve into a cloud of purple smoke, pulling away from Qin Mo’s frame.
As the horn slid out of his stomach, another violent surge of blood gushed from the deep, gaping wound in his abdomen. Qin Mo’s body collapsed forward, floating weightlessly in the dark void.
He clutched his stomach with both hands, his fingers soaking instantly in his own warm blood. The wound was deep, infected with the chaotic poison of the rift, and his spiritual core was leaking energy like a shattered glass jar. His vision began to blur, the glittering stars around him spinning into
long, dizzying streaks of light.
"Wan... Wan..." he whispered, his voice nothing more than a dying vibration in his chest.
Suddenly, the space right beneath his floating body gave a violent, unnatural shudder.
Because the Rift Beast had exploded with such massive chaotic force, the fabric of space in that specific spot had become completely unstable.
A long, jagged black crack ripped open in the void—a chaotic, unstable space rift that began to spin like a violent whirlpool, generating a powerful, magnetic pull that sucked in everything in its path.
Qin Mo had no strength left to fight the pull. His legs were numb, his arms heavy, and his consciousness was rapidly slipping away into a deep, black ocean of darkness.
The chaotic space rift caught his limp, bleeding body, dragging him down into its dark center. With a final, silent flash of purple light, the rift snapped shut, leaving the star field completely empty, silent, and cold once more.
Qin Mo’s body tumbled through the dark, twisting tunnels of the space rift for what felt like an eternity. He felt no passage of time, no heat, and no cold. There was only the dull, heavy thud of his own failing heartbeat echoing in his ears.
Finally, with a sudden, violent lurch, the chaotic energy expelled him from the rift.
*Bang!*
Qin Mo crashed heavily onto a hard, solid surface, his body rolling twice across a layer of rough, dry earth before coming to a complete stop.
The sudden impact jarred his deep stomach wound, causing another sharp wave of agony to rip through his body, forcing a low groan from his blood-stained lips.
He lay flat on his back, his breath coming in shallow, painful wheezes.
Slowly, with an immense physical effort that made his whole body shake, he managed to open his eyes just a fraction.
He was no longer in the dark void of outer space. He was lying on the ground of an unknown, desolate land. The sky above him was not blue or purple; it was a strange, dull shade of deep orange, illuminated by two small, identical white suns that hung side by side in the upper heavens, casting a harsh, pale glare across the landscape.
The air here was hot, dry, and carried the bitter, unfamiliar scent of sulfur and dead stone. There were no trees, no water, and no signs of living souls. Far in the distance, massive, twisted structures of black stone rose into the orange sky like the ribs of a giant, long-dead animal.
Qin Mo tried to circulate his spiritual energy to seal the bleeding in his stomach, but the moment he touched his core, a sharp, burning pain made him flinch.
The chaotic poison from the beast’s horn had formed a dark, web-like pattern across his meridians, completely locking his energy away.
He could not use his cultivation. He could not fly. He could not even heal his own flesh.
He was completely cut off from the rest of the universe. He was trapped in a strange, isolated world, his location entirely unknown to his people and his female, who he had vowed to protect.
Using his elbows, he slowly dragged his bleeding body across the dry dirt, leaving a long, dark red trail behind him. He made his way toward the shadow of a low black stone ridge, trying to find shelter from the harsh glare of the twin suns.
He collapsed against the base of the stone, his hands still clutched tightly over his wet stomach. His eyelids grew incredibly heavy, sliding down to shut out the orange sky.
As his mind finally gave way to the deep darkness of unconsciousness, his last remaining thought was not of the strange world he had found, or the poison destroying his core.
It was the terrifying realization that he was no longer there to shield Lin Wan from the storms that were coming her way.
The ancestral lands of the White Tiger Tribe were built on a grand, savage scale.
Deep within the northern mountain ridges, ancient stone fortresses rose like jagged teeth against a blood-red evening sky.
Unlike the quiet luxury of the Upper Realm or the small, crowded houses of the lower slums, this place smelled of raw iron, fresh pine needles, and the wild, musky scent of high-tier predators.
Massive waterfalls crashed down the sides of the gray cliffs, turning into roaring rivers that cut straight through the middle of the tribal grounds.
Wang stood on the highest ridge overlooking the valley, his long dark hair whipping wildly around his face in the bitter northern wind.
He was no longer the simple, quiet beastman who had quietly followed Lin Wan through the market streets. He had shed his simple traveling tunics for the traditional heavy armor of his bloodline—thick plates of dark steel lined with white tiger fur, a long sword strapped securely to his waist.
His blue eyes, usually soft and attentive when looking at her, were now cold, sharp, and completely devoid of warmth. They looked like two pieces of polished flint.
He had searched everywhere.
For seven long days, he had pushed his beast form to its absolute limits, running through the border cities, the lower rings, and the hidden mountain passes until his paws bled and his lungs burned like hot charcoal.
But he had found nothing. No lingering ripples of her familiar spiritual frequency. It was as if Lin Wan had simply vanished from the face of the earth, leaving behind an empty world that felt completely hollow to him.
"Young Master," a deep, raspy voice called out from the darkness behind him.
Wang did not turn his head. He kept his eyes fixed on the tribal fires burning in the valley below.
A large, elderly beastman stepped out from the shadow of a pine tree. This was Elder Chen, one of the few remaining loyal warriors who had served Wang’s father.
He was dressed in worn leather armor, his face covered in deep battle scars, his right arm missing from the elbow down—a grim souvenir from the internal wars that had plagued the tribe for a decade.
"The council has gathered in the main hall," Elder Chen reported, his voice low and heavy with concern. "Elder Shen has already taken the high seat. He has called upon all the lesser chiefs to witness your return. They are saying... they are saying you abandoned your duties to chase a worthless female in the lower realms. They are preparing to strip you of your position, Patriarch."
A cold, dark smile touched Wang’s lips, but the amusement did not reach his eyes. "Let them say what they wish, Chen. They think they are sitting on a throne of stone, but they are nothing but rats chewing on the roots of my house."
He turned around, his dark steel armor clanking softly in the quiet night. He looked down at his own large hands, his sharp claws extending just a fraction, gleaming like silver needles under the moonlight.
