Chapter 31: Immense Upgrade
[The Cosmic Terror, First Beta, Third Dungeon has been completed.
Dungeon Title: Sky Express
Task: Reach your destination (Skyline Borders)]
[Rewards: Imperial Jewel, 100,000 Nether and Aether Coins.]
The dungeon had come to an end in a short space of time.
Dean had chatted with Nie Li for a while and learnt that, should he ever come to the southern cities of the Nether-Realm, he could visit Nie Li’s company in person to ensure a smooth process.
In short, one could say he had found a good path for himself.
He had also learnt that, with the five mana essences used by his servant Percival, he had already become a Ninth-Class Wizard Ghost.
Everything was going very well.
Without even taking the time to wipe the blood from his body, the young man reached into his inventory and pulled out the box containing the pill created by the Medicine-God.
Just as he was about to open the box, a system notification appeared before him:
[Task 5: Own, Break, Create
Purchase a region, destroy everything in it, and create much better things in their place.
Reward: Ownership Token(???)]
The young man clearly saw that he had been assigned the fifth system task, but he dismissed it without giving it a second thought.
All he wanted to do right now was to get that pill down his throat as soon as possible and grow stronger.
Afterwards, he would top up the rest with mana essences.
Just like Percival, as he grew stronger, he would find a way to use the energy orbs in his inventory and perhaps develop fully, setting him on the path to becoming a Mid-Tier human.
Everything was going according to plan.
The young man had opened the pill box.
That immense energy had spread out once more; the young man had taken the pill and then popped it into his mouth and swallowed it.
As soon as he did so, he could feel it.
It was as if an apocalypse was raging inside Dean’s body.
Every second brought a completely different burst of power, and the mana surrounding his heart was growing ever larger.
It was a very strange sensation.
[Host’s Magic has increased to Second-Level.]
[Host’s Magic has increased to Third-Level.]
[Host’s Magic has increased to Fourth-Level.]
[Host’s Magic has increased to Fifth-Level.]
System notifications began to appear one after another before his eyes.
Meanwhile, Dean was struggling not to faint.
There was simply no way to describe the pain enveloping his heart.
It was as if he were having a heart attack.
It was an incredible, unimaginable pain.
The young man was trembling where he stood.
The pain he was now enduring was far less than what he had felt when he first gained the energy.
It was simply that his body had attained such immense power that, in an instant, it had begun doing everything in its power to keep up with it.
And that was precisely what was making everything more difficult, as if making it even worse.
[Host’s Magic has increased to Sixth-Level.]
[Host’s Magic has increased to Seventh-Level.]
After all that pain, the agony in his body had begun to fade slowly.
The surge of magic had come to an abrupt halt, and the energy remaining within his body was now beginning to stabilise.
Dean could clearly sense it.
Around his heart, there was a sort of barrier... no, a gate. It looked like a ring.
This ring had begun to contain Dean’s mana.
Bolstered by Holy Power, this energy itself was beginning to flow into the ring.
It was as though the two unbalanced forces were trying to realign with one another once more.
One might say it was a rather strange occurrence.
Nevertheless, Dean had now begun to breathe comfortably once more.
As a result, he felt the need to check his profile:
[Dean #####
Age: 22
Race: Human
Magic Energy: Seventh-Class
Holy Power Energy: First-Class
Summons: Percival
Skills: -]
As the young man examined his profile, he noticed the changes in both the ’summons’ section and the ’magic energy’ section, and smiled slightly.
All that remained now was to reach Ninth-Class.
So, as if nothing had happened, he reached into his inventory and pulled out a bottle of mana essence.
He opened the bottle containing the mana essence and then sniffed the liquid.
To put it plainly, the liquid had a strong scent of dark chocolate.
Dean was already certain he wouldn’t like the taste.
Still, he had to do this to grow stronger.
He took a deep breath and then swallowed every last drop of the liquid from the small bottle.
At that moment, the mana level in his body began to rise once more, and within a short time, Dean saw two new system windows appear before him:
[Host’s Mana has increased to Level Eight.]
[Host’s Mana has increased to Level Nine.]
The young man smiled again at the sight of these system windows. He was very close to his goal, to truly become stronger.
Filled with joy, he congratulated himself wholeheartedly.
He closed these two system windows, then tossed his bloodstained clothes into his inventory and took a quick shower.
He’d been awake for a day and a half.
It was time to sleep.
As he flung himself onto the bed, a completely different system window had appeared before him:
[Host is ready to upgrade his Magic Energy to the next grade.]
When the young man saw this message, he sat bolt upright in bed, but then lay back down as if realising that acting hastily would be of little use to him, and that taking things slowly would be a better idea for the moment.
First, he would sleep; tomorrow, he would check a few things on his computer.
Perhaps, after a long time, he could go out and have a little wander.
After all, he thought he deserved it.
He had fallen asleep within that short time.
Meanwhile, on the Cosmic Terror forum, quite different things were happening.
To put it bluntly, everything had been turned upside down.
Dean’s actions, and those of the man who had introduced himself as ’Decanus’, had spread throughout the entire forum, and consequently to the whole world, in a very short space of time.
Decanus was now a household name.
The identity of that mysterious, powerful and wealthy figure had been revealed.
For some people, this alone was an incredible development.
