Chapter 560: Chapter 322: Duke Xuanming

"You, a dignified Jinchan official, considered a second-rank high official in the court, why come to a brothel and engage in such petty behaviors of defaulting debts?" Qin Yuesheng did not respond to Ye Fan’s words but instead voiced his own doubts.

Perhaps it was because Qin Yuesheng, too, was a member of the Seven Stars Supervisor that Ye Fan showed a bitter smile and said helplessly, "It’s because I’m forced to. The court is not what it used to be. Since the new emperor ascended the throne, at the request of the Rootless Sect, he directly abolished the entire Seven Stars Supervisor institution, merging everyone into other official departments. All officials ranked above Silver Chan have been suspended and monitored, not allowed to leave Chang’an City."

"So you use such methods to pass the time, for fun and distraction." Qin Yuesheng shook his head, "Too perverse."

Ye Fan’s behavior was typical of picking fights, but with his strength, ordinary people couldn’t even hurt him, let alone affect the Inner Strength protecting him.

"I advise you, don’t have anything to do with the Rootless Sect for now. If those eunuchs make you uncomfortable, bear with it for a while longer."

Qin Yuesheng asked, "What will happen if we wait a little longer?"

Ye Fan took a big swig of his drink, "Hic! Nothing."

Qin Yuesheng pondered, it seems that although the Seven Stars Supervisor had been so undermined by the Rootless Sect, there was not a complete absence of resentment in the shadows, and they must be secretly planning something specifically to deal with the Rootless Sect.

"The base of the Rootless Sect, is it within the royal city?"

"Where else? All the eunuchs are in there. The place is usually as impregnable as a fortress, not even a bird could fly out once it gets in."

Qin Yuesheng nodded and immediately got up and walked towards the door.

"Hey, why are you in such a hurry? Are you really planning to do something about the Rootless Sect? I won’t stop you from going to your death, but remember to destroy any evidence on you related to the Seven Stars Supervisor. If you get caught, we won’t admit you are one of us." Watching Qin Yuesheng’s back, Ye Fan shouted.

However, Qin Yuesheng did not respond to him, disappearing quickly from Ye Fan’s sight.

"Fine, do as you like. I don’t care about anything anymore, damn the Rootless Sect." Ye Fan grabbed a cold chicken leg left on the table and started munching on it.

...

Chang’an is grand, and the royal city even more so. As a private Inner City where only royal members may reside, the towering red walls outside the city are enough to obscure all eyes yearning to peek at its scenes.

The Imperial Guard, armed to the teeth, stood on either side of the city gate, and over the grey stone bridge on the moat coiled stone dragons. The river water below was deep, and bubbles occasionally rose, leaving one to wonder what lay beneath.

The ancestors of the Great Tang had Grandmasters overseeing them, but as generation after generation of emperors passed, the martial inheritance became lacking, and fewer descendants were entrusted with heavy responsibilities.

Qin Yuesheng dared to conclude that there were no Grandmasters currently in the Great Tang’s royal family, or else they wouldn’t let the Rootless Sect reverse the roles and take control, shaming the royal family.

According to what Qin Yuesheng knew, it seemed the most powerful among the Tang Li family was Prince Li Mu.

At nightfall, lanterns lit up inside and outside the royal city, appearing from afar like countless red fireflies or huge red dragons crawling through the city, a truly beautiful sight.

Qiancheng Temple was located fifty feet outside the north gate of the royal city. The temple’s layout wasn’t large, and a single road led directly to the temple’s depths.

This temple had three gates, the first being the Sincerity Gate, behind which were the Buddha statues, where one could offer incense and pray.

The second was the Heart-Devotion Gate, which only disciples and monks of the temple could enter; it contained the dining hall and monks’ quarters.

The third was the Meditation and Reflection Gate. Five years ago, wealthy merchants from Chang’an funded the construction of the tallest pagoda within Chang’an here.

It housed Qiancheng Temple’s scriptures, the golden bodies or relics of past high monks, and some living high monks who came here for seclusion.

The night wind stirred, and Qin Yuesheng stood at the highest point of the pagoda in Qiancheng Temple, gazing distantly towards the inside of the royal palace.

Standing at such a height, it felt as if all of Chang’an lay beneath his feet, but Qin Yuesheng didn’t indulge in this sensation for long. Finding the time right, he instantly vanished from his spot like a shadow of light.

The royal palace had stringent security; if even a fly appeared, the palace guards would act to kill it in no time.

No matter how renowned a thief was in the martial world, none could infiltrate the royal palace and escape unscathed.

To the martial world, the royal palace is a forbidden place.

But in the eyes of a Grandmaster, all of this was merely a joke.

Qin Yuesheng moved like a ghost, reaching the eaves of a corridor in the royal city in the blink of an eye.

With his keen hearing, he could quickly determine how many people were active within a hundred feet around him. If any patrolling soldiers approached, he could recognize them immediately.

"Need to find a eunuch to interrogate," Qin Yuesheng mused.

To enter the Rootless Sect, one must be rootless. In his search throughout the royal city, Qin Yuesheng finally spotted three eunuchs walking along the main road with lanterns.

There was one old eunuch leading, with two younger ones following like grandchildren, their cautious demeanor extremely humble.

Qin Yuesheng leapt down from the wall. Before they could react, he executed a Clever Hand Universe technique, and the three were instantly pulled towards him, subsequently subdued by Qin Yuesheng through acupressure.
